Where to start ?

About a month ago a friend asked if I was going to try the "Egg Shoot" at one of our local ranges , he also asked that if I did go what gun would I bring..I responded "my AR probably"..but then I got to thinking .."why not cast bullets?"

First I had to follow through with one of my "forever projects"...that being switching over the Weaver mounts and rings that were on my Remington 700 VS in .308 to a Redfield one piece mount ...I did so during a quiet moment last Sunday..ANOTHER FOREVER.. DONE!

Boy was I happy the scope is lower and the whole rig feels better...feeling pretty good about my acomlishment I even lowered the trigger pull a wee bit...nice..

So being the impatient person I am I didn't wait for the designated 200yds range time this week but rather took a chance and headed down there to see if anyone was shooting at the 100 yd station...It was empty..Yes!!!
So I ran back and closed the gate..It's all Mine!!..

After setting up my target and gear..I went to turning the knobs on the scope ..focus first, elevation 28 clicks to start..I had placed the target high on the paper to give myself some leeway...two clicks to the right for windage ..these were needed the last time I shot 100 yds ..might as well do it now..

I settled down and squeezed off the first round..not bad about four inches low and to still to the left..a little more adjustment and tried again..the adjustments were being made while shooting Accurate's 31-167N ..they drop about 160 grains with my alloy....a couple more and I'm nicking the bottom of the target..

At this point I'm running out of those so I fired the last two for group on another target..HUUUUM 1/2" apart..and now I'm out of those...I'll have to wait to find out how 5 shoot.

BUT I've got 5 rounds loaded with the NOE 311-188FN Hunter....dang just have to bring more ammo next time..before firing off the first round I changed the windage again..YA ! Dan in the same direction dummy..heaven only knows what compelled me to change it again but I did...so here's my four round group with the Hunter at 200 yds...if I can shave another 1/4" plus off the group size I'll be on par with about what it shoot at 100yds..1/2"- 5/8"....think I can hit an egg at 200?.." suppose I could have just posted the picture..

You aren't making it easier to avoid adding that mold to the collection.

Very nice work! I'd have to hang up shooting rifles if not for scopes.

I'll post pictures of the plain based groups...then you'll really like the bullet.

Nice group Dan. I'd love to see you smoke those guys using J-words with cast!

have you done any bench rest shooting or is it all off the bipod?
Most of my shooting is from the prone position using a bipod and a bag under the butstock.
Sometimes I'll hit the rifle range and be able to shoot off bags front and rear from a solid bench.
I just hate paying the $10 they want to shoot there then only able to change out targets once an hour or so.
That's why I'm usually just out in the woods.

Dan,
Looking at those targets ......wow you are doing that at 100 yds!
I'm happy when that happens at 50!
I think you have a good handle on how to shoot from the bench with a scope.
Go scramble some eggs!

Not sure if I'm more impressed by the 100 or the 200 yard group. Both are damn fine shooting.
