I've personally seen WD40 harden to a varnish like finish over a few years. And it was on a gun, and it was a total pain to remove. I had to soak everything in acetone & ATF to make it let go. This was on a revolver that I had sprayed down pretty heavily before putting it away for safekeeping.

I have known many old Farmers that sprayed it on their aching joints! I 'm not sure why it works but then again I have no idea why "Blue Emu" works too! But folks swear by it!

Blu Emu actually does work to reduce inflammation and pain enough to be worthwhile. I don't understand how, don't really want to believe it, but I keep using it and it keeps working [shrug].

Blu Emu contains glucosamine and MSM in a dream base that helps them penetrate the skin. These ingredients have been shown to help with arthritic joints.

Blu Emu does make some other products with additional stuff like trolamine salicylate. This is a counter irritant. In short it works by overloading the brain with a message of irrritated skin in the region so the pain message is lost in the traffic.

For the last two months, pre- and post surgery, I have been using a mix of Aleve and a cannabinoids salve. I don't know how effective the salve is as the other ingredients are coconut oil, shea butter, cocoa butter and menthol crystals rubbed in twice a day. The combo is a pretty effective pain killer for light chronic pain.

The menthol is a commonly used counter irritant. Menthol, methyl salicylate, phenol, and trolamine salicylate are the most common. Trolamine salicylate has a huge advantage over the others- no odor!

Topical Salicylates like Aspercreme have always worked well for me. Don't care for the Ben-Gay or HEAT topicals.

Trolamine salicylate. I recommend it all the time as it keeps you from smelling like an old man.
