We're in trouble

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
You would be surprised! Halloween is the second most expensive holiday following Christmas, at 80%+. People are crazy.
Halloween is my wifes birthday. Yes, I married a witch. She sees no issue at all with making it a large celebration!

People are not more or less stupid than before. Product Liability lawyers are breeding like sewer rats.

I would submit that on a small scale, individuals are no more or less stupid than in prior times. However, on a bigger scale, modern society is breeding a larger percentage of willfully ignorant people than before.

The people in the middle and upper end of the bell curve that have the capacity to learn is the same - and the information is available to them if they want it. But a larger percentage of the population is willfully ignorant than ever before.
A large portion of society is ignorant, AND THEY WANT TO BE IGNORANT.

In the immortal words of Tommy Lee Jones writers , " kid a person is smart and can handle it. People are dumb panicky animals" . Sadly I can't think of a better way to describe the race as a whole .

Boy I believe you hit the old nail on the head.
I’m amazed when I see a younger person who has the opportunity to observe or get hands on instruction, pass that opportunity in favor of using a phone or computer. These are great tools and certainly have there place, but are a poor substitute for first hand learning.

it isn't just in this country.
i was just watching a documentary on how they make the steel for Japanese swords.
at the end they done a mini camp for a bunch of older kids.
jeez.
talk about a difference between a bunch of 60-80 y.o. men and some college age kids.
but, 'i have sensitive hands' one says to an 83YO guy with fresh burn marks all over his face and hands who stayed up for 3 straight days tending a big pile of charcoal and metal contained in a sand form that took 3 days to make.
