My desire to head outdoors ends up empty.

Last deer I shot it was -15 F with a sligth breeze. Luckily I saw deer wothin an hour and was only out 90 minutes. I wasn't going to make it much longer. I don't care what you are wearing, cold sucks.

When that cold I start stalking. -5 is about as cold as I like to sit through.

Only had maybe an inch and a half, but I hauled out the snow blower and did my neighbors
drive and sidewalks and mine. I like blowing snow. Hate mowing grass. Kinda go with freebulletand stalking, but I start before it hits zero.

Haven't seen the mercury below 28 F in decades.
I know my back and arthritis is going to hate me for it, but I want to get out of here so bad, I think I'm looking forward to a little snow and cold.
Holy smoke! Did I just say that?

You need to stay south of I-20 if you don't like cold. Staying south of I-10 would be better, but has other challenges like hurricanes and English being the second or third language.

I still miss Alaska and wish I had retired there. Never lived in a
climate as healthy as Alaska. But, you either Love it or Hate it.

We have it pretty lucky here in Western Oregon. Winters get cold at times. Maybe a couple weeks of below freezing temps. Not too often do we see teens. Snow? Enough might fall to stick on the ground for a few days every other year. Summer might see 3-4 weeks of hot. And by that I mean mid to upper 90's
We break 100 from time to time. You need to learn to enjoy(tolerate) rain here. We get a good 8-9 mouths a year. It is very green here though!

Ran three pots of alloy this afternoon, each through a two-cavity mould.

Got a pile of AM 31-188Gs, Lee C358-200-RF, and MP 358-170-RF with penta HP pins (borrowed from L1A1Rocker, thanks man!).
No problem. Hope it works well for you!

Been terrible warm here. We got a 15" snow and about the time we got it cleared off the driveway, it started raining. Rained better part of two days and melted the vast majority of the snow. Ground still hasn't frozen, a first here for this time of year. Then we had a few colder days, and is snowing as I type. We need some snow before it gets cold or those of us with septics will have problems when it gets real cold. Suppose to be below zero the next few nights. I shot a little basket 7 pt and had to put it up right away. I like to remove the hide and let it hang a week or so before cutting. Lakes just have ring ice and streams running full. Strange weather pattern for this time of year. Easy on the woodpile though.

dang man.
our little reservoir is almost totally froze over.
the part where the river runs through it has some small open spots and the wind we had today tried to push a little more open.
I bet it's solid by Thursday though.

My wife's garden pond got about a quarter-inch of ice on it one morning a few years back. Lowest temp we recorded last year was 27, which is way too warm even for us and the fleas and general bug population have been out of control this year. Buddy killed a wild pig last weekend and it was so infested with fleas (in addition to the usual lice and ticks) he just left it for the buzzards.

Ian, You have it right. I will take the -20 degrees for a few days every winter, but not have any fleas, or lice and few ticks. Folks live with what they are comfortable with, and for me, insects are not my thing. The high desert has been a good place, even though when I retired I could have gone anywhere. BUT, I do have to put up with two months of clouds and cold. That is a small price to pay for 10 good months.

Fleas love Mrs. smokeywolf, but I suspect chiggers might prove to be more troublesome. We studied for 4 years where we would end up and although I'd like to go to Utah or Idaho, we can't get as much for our money as we can over in Rick and Winelover's neighborhood. Also, Mrs. smokeywolf wants more growing season than Idaho and most of Utah provide.

Found out over Thanksgiving that my oldest son has spit up with his girlfriend of 10 years and is now talking of moving from the KC, MO area to the Corpus Christi, TX area. I'm going to start working on him to move to North-Central AR.

If he has to work for a living this isn't a good area, it's far more of a retirement area.

Chickens will keep a lot of that down. I know we've talked about this, but for the others here. . .
Before I had chickens I had to spray for scorpions three (sometimes four) times a year. Now that I've got free ranging chickens (back "yard" only) I only spray once a year, and that's really just to take care of the inside and prevent termites.

We have chiggers in Ne, I repeat---we have chiggers here. Not as bad as the ones I
experienced in Kansas, but a close second.
