One of the BEST gun guys I ever made was on a M/N M-44 variant, a Romanian-made carbine with that folding bayonet gizmo. $65, like new. Bore was pristine.
M/N buffs told me to shoot it with bayonet in place and extended. THAT would play well at Angeles or Inland......NOT. I removed the Fascist-sticker and its departure remains unmourned. I scrounged up some Russian sporting ammo with 154 grain soft points and gave them a test-drive......DANG, this stuff would SHOOT. Basically a bug-hole at 50 yards, 5 shots. At 100 yards, 1.5"-1.75"/5 shots was the rule. Awrighty, then.
The brass was Boxer-primed and fit WLRs just fine. Throat is a fat .310", grooves right at .310". Sized Lee 312-185s @ .311" and seated to kiss the leade atop 16.0 grains of 2400.......1.1"-1.5" at 50 yards/5 shots. All shooting done with OEM open irons. It is one heck of a truck/Jeep rifle.
