Spent 40 years avoiding these silly black things, and im afraid ive got the fever now!

I dont normally buy cheap junk,but i bought a bca 300bo complete upper,,248 bucks,right to my door.SS 16 inch.
Couldnt push a patch threw it,crown and gas hole, had fishhook burrs, they never even deburred it!
I was nervous,,then i borescoped it. Very few chatter marks, surprisingly smooth bore!
Put 70 jacketed bullets threw it so far, barrell cleans easy, slight copper fouling comes right out.
Ive found out that horn190btsp,,with 4227,,will shoot .5 groups@50 yards,with 3or 4 shots in .25,,,,,this thing shoots!
Once it warms up,shes gonna get a steady diet of cast.
So impressed,,that i just ordered a 223,20 inch SS,,hope i can get lucky again!

This is such a cheap and easy way to get into another caliber, why did i wait so long?

Entertaining as well!!
The gun runs really well, with 125 and 190,,with 4227,nary a hitch.i loaded some with 110,and they would half feed a jam the gun up.i thought i must have loaded them light, nope, there good and hot, must have to do with 110 aint got enough gas.

No Contender barrels (yet). I bought an AR to satisfy my curiosity, that cured my AR fever. Glad to have one though.

Son and I built some as father/son project in 2020, during WA lockdown. I haven't shot mine since the first range test.

Most folks over the age of 60, who come down with AR fever, get over it a less than two years. Sort of like collecting Contender barrels.
Well i have 1 more year to go!!!
Btw,,,i picked up another sizer on the other site,,,lyman .308......drum roll.....
.3093,,,,,,,seems im cursed!!!
O well,,im gonna have all sizes,if this keeps up!

Well I have a couple of AR’s. Been thinking about getting a 7.62 x 39 upper. Thought about getting a 300 BO but I’ll settle for something more useful.

"Barbies for men" is what I call them. It's a cheap addiction. I'm on the back side of the AR thing and on to the next thing.

Tinker Toys and Erector Sets is how I see them. Bought first one just to have one in case (after initial ban/after out of the Army). Then (again swore never) got on the build wagon and actually really enjoying it. Built a few (and parted with some).

61. Not what I consider AR fever - I am way more in to levers and old/odd/dead calibers. But s said above, I do enjoy the build aspect. And have some buddies who like what I build, so...

One thing I just simply have no desire for is anything in 7.62x39...

all the old guys in town here seemed to settle in on buying an AR years back.
they never shoot them more than once every 2-3 years, but i know they all have one.

my main is used for rock chucks and ground squirrels, it's one of the most accurate rifles i have.

A home built AR .223 with a 22” Remington barrel is my main varmint rifle.
A home built AR in 6.8 SPC is my cast bullet auto loading rifle and it’s what I’ve settled on after trying .300 BO, 7.62x39, and 6.5 Grendel. Nothing against them, I just like the baby .270 better. It’s wicked with Speer 100 gr hp on coyotes.
I also have a Wyndham/CavArms 20” handy.
I like AR15s but I’m not fanatical about them… much.

Interesting. Son and I built one AR in 7.62X39, as it has the most power you can get out of an AR frame.

Plus, I have a 1903 Springfield in 7..62X39 with a heavy 16 inch barrel, and SKS, and a CZ carbine. Sold the H&R Handi Rifle barrel when they got up to $450. Found it very usable with jacketed bullets, but 30/30 and 32/20 much better with cast bullets.

Son #5 has a high end AK and happy with it. A 1903 in x39?!?! How/why/do I even want to know (might make me cringe - lol!)? And, this "but 30/30 and 32/20 much better with cast bullets" answers my why no desire. I have 3x 32/20s and want another in SAA model, 2x 30-30s, 2x in 7-30 Waters and a 32 WS. Oh, and 30 and 35 Herretts (some of those listed are Contenders). And pretty much all cast. I just don't see a need or real use for the x39.

ps: maybe, just MAYBE, DEEP down, it is a despision for the AK (7.62x39) because the very first one I ever shot (almost 40 yrs ago), it kicked a nasty dirty piece of brass into the crown of my brand new silver belly Stetson Rancher hat I'd had for only a week and left a grease mark (which is still there...)!

pss: nah, I am SURE it is not THAT! lmoa!!!

A 1903 in x39?!?! How/why/do I even want to know (might make me cringe - lol!)?

When President Reagan allowed military surplus to again enter the US, the first thing was millions of rounds of 7.62X39 at about three cents each. I had a 1903 Springfield action that was drilled and tapped and not restorable. Also, a Douglas match barrel that had a worn out throat. So I cut it off, rethreaded it and chambered it to 7.62X39. After some minor action work, it would feed three from the magazine just fine.

Still have it after spending almost 20 years as my truck gun, camping all over the US; ever failed to fire or lose zero!

p.s. Had enough fired at me for the respect of the cartridge.

I wanted a cast bullet friendly AR so I got a 7.62X39 upper and do not regret the choice at all. The XCB bullet sized .312" and 17 grains of 1680 runs just fine and hits 2" below full power jacketed reloads at 80 yards.. I have shot two deer with the 123 grain Hornady and it also worked just fine. I think but am not certain I am running 24.5 grains of 1680 under the Hornady. Scoped and equipped with an excellent two stage Milazzo MKII trigger. Homely to aficionados, scary to black gun haters, I'd be hard pressed to relinquish my ARs. I also have other "Barbiesque" items, made by Milwaukee, Stihl, and Dewalt, and Glock.

I first got infatuated with heavy barrel factory varmit rifles,,then on to custom built full blown bench guns,,then a long affair with marlin levers,,then fell in love with flintlock longrifles,,back to handguns for a long while,,,and now,,,ar
Funny how a mans hobby changes...
