Nice warm dry day here today, so I finished the Snapper rider mower project today.
Something is wrong with the alternator, when I got the used Tecumseh 10 HP motor, the wire to the alternator was jammed/crushed in the metal shroud pieces, insulation pinched...and shorted out, I suspect.
Anyway, now when everything is installed and connected, the engine would start but wouldn't run right, couldn't set the carb to correct the issue ...and ran the battery down. I suspect the alternator overheated (before I got it?) and the windings are partially shorted? I disconnected it, and now it runs great. I'll probably use it this way, and just charge the battery as needed, so I installed a connector to match my battery tender plug. I wish the engine had a recoil pull starter.
Another issue, I installed all new gas line and a In-line shutoff. I've used the cheap plastic shut-offs before (black body/red knob), and they had worked fine. BUT NOT TODAY... First one leaked...go back to store and exchange it...Second one leaked... So I'll never buy one of those again, I ordered a nice metal in-line fuel ball valve.
Since I was ordering stuff, the in-tank fuel valve on my Troybilt hasn't been functional for a couple years, can't shut it off (Kohler 7hp with steel fuel tank) So I also ordered the correct in-tank valve.
