Sorry to hear about your loss.
When I was young, as in my mid twenties, my brother had some brother-in-laws that were bikers.
They were also roadies for Pink Floyd.
When they would go on tour, they would leave their Harleys with my bro, to look after.
We would make sure they didn't feel neglected, by riding them. They were pretty big cruisers, not crotch rockets
Traffic was much more civilized then and we thought we were bullet proof.
Looking back, I don know how we survived.
Any incident on a motorcycle is a major event.

Tough situation Brad, hate to hear stuff like this and the fall out can last for years for those closest.
I have a nephew who runs a diesel repair shop out in the oil fields of ND. He is the shop foreman and lives in an apartment above the shop. Six weeks ago the shop was broken into while he was there. His bulldog alerted him to what was happening and he investigated while armed. Two Mexicans all doped up with poor intentions. One fled when he confronted them, the other threw a tire tool at him and he shot him. He was cleared and shooting justified, but it weighs on him still. He's a real good hearted guy and is the type guy would help anybody with anything. Not good all the way around.

JonB,
Was just down south of Aitkin and there wasn't any snow left. We still have what used to be snow, but now is concrete at night and slush in the day. It's been raining here two days but forecast is for 6-8" of snow by Thursday. Sure won't help with the flooding between us. The Mississippi is going to get wild in the next couple weeks. Wearing knee boots everywhere right now. Gotta love spring!

I was never into motorcycles, but I do have to say that watching a motorcycle Formula 1/Moto GP race in person will make your hair stand on end and give you goose bumps. Of particular interest is to watch them snake down the Corkscrew.

My brother-in-law has been riding Harley-Davidsons for 50-years and has been accident free. However, a friend of his lost a leg in an in-town accident, and a guy we both knew was killed while on a road trip.

His son, my nephew, raced dirt flat track for many years, but has always stayed off the streets and roads-- says he doesn't feel safe . . . He is very close friends with Wayne Rainey, Kenny Roberts and his son, Jeff Haney, and several other big-time professional riders, and has a collection of ex-Honda factory Formula 1 bikes.

what's odd is I'm a big fan of racing.
I sat up till 2 am to watch the nascar race last night even though I knew who was gonna win.
so naturally I like motorcycle racing also.
except stadium super cross I just can't watch that anymore, it was awesome in the 70's.
but now it's meh lets see what else is on, now flat track racing..

Hate to hear about folks dieing so young especially in such a unfortunate accident .

I rode in the dirt a while after I was old enough to know better .
I got off the wrong side 2-3 times before I wiped out in a deep wash . Too much bike for conditions , trying to keep up with the kids . Broke 9 spokes out of the front wheel of of the big old XR 650 R , the bike that went to Baja with 6 mods to run the 1000 for budget teams and about 20 tweeks for big league . I miss it a little but it'd be bad for me out here the wet clay would almost certainly leave me laying down as much as standing up . I don't trust the other on the road .

I used to be huge on NASCAR racing, even was on pit crews for several years on the west coast. Can't even watch it anymore, NASCAR has succeeded in totally destroying a once great sport. Now down to the horse power of some street cars, aero package that's such a box nobody can pass anyone. Points system a thing of the past. Trying to watch anymore is an experiment in boredom. Even if you had Stephen King's imagination you couldn't call that racing. For several years NASCAR blamed the poor attendance at the tracks and low TV audience on the economy. News flash NASCAR, it ain't the economy. Yesterdays race at Bristol is a perfect example, for years at Bristol you had to buy a ticket several years in advance because they were sold out. Yesterday . . . . Under 50% track attendance. What a shame.

Far too many friends of mine have been killed or maimed on motorcycles for me to ever consider getting back up on 2 wheels.

I just about got a turkey coming back from the hill country, flock at the side but the dumb one decided to cross the road. Would have made a good T.G. dinner for a large family. IIRC last week an older biker got killed by one that hit him in the chest. Dang that would hurt.

It hit 76 here in South West Wisconsin today. We put 170 miles on our Indian today. Roads are a bit dirty with left over sand from snow/ice control this Winter, but that just means you have to pay attention. The only down side was the wind, gusts to 35 buffeting us all over. Still great to get out!

Got to ride a 1941 Indian 4 one time. Don't know about today's Indian motorcycles, but back in the day they produced a fine machine.

Lubed, sized and put checks on the bullets I cast a couple week ago.
Cases are all prepped and primed. Will assemble them tomorrow or Wed. It will be interesting to see if the gas checks stay on these bevel based bullets. :headscratch:

the Indians rule the flat tracks, a good Harley is gonna fight for like 5th place with one of the best riders on it.
if I were gonna buy a bike today it would be an Indian.
I won't be, I can scare myself with 4 tires just fine.

we had sun, rain, wind, dead calm, some more sun, and rain, and sun and rain at the same time.
if the snow was off the lava fields I would have took a rifle out for a walk.
as it was I built a small poly tunnel and transplanted some of the germinated seeds into bigger cups, I
took the rest outside for a bit to get some direct sun and some wind to harden off a bit.

yeah Rick I'm not real happy about some of the packages they run either..
this one was higher drag, but they upped the HP to 750 for this race. [they broke the track record like 10 times in qualifying]
I really think they need to open things up, by running some low drag packages, or give the teams the option of 2 packages, let them run whatever ride heights they want.
and at the open race let it be an open race.
same body style.. add on or take off whatever you want as long as it fits this and this template.
wanna run 1500 hp for 500 miles? go for it.
no spoiler? have at it.
a sheet of plexi-glass down the B-pillar to the rear bumper?
as long as it doesn't hit the template.

Nice warm dry day here today, so I finished the Snapper rider mower project today.

Something is wrong with the alternator, when I got the used Tecumseh 10 HP motor, the wire to the alternator was jammed/crushed in the metal shroud pieces, insulation pinched...and shorted out, I suspect.
Anyway, now when everything is installed and connected, the engine would start but wouldn't run right, couldn't set the carb to correct the issue ...and ran the battery down. I suspect the alternator overheated (before I got it?) and the windings are partially shorted? I disconnected it, and now it runs great. I'll probably use it this way, and just charge the battery as needed, so I installed a connector to match my battery tender plug. I wish the engine had a recoil pull starter.

Another issue, I installed all new gas line and a In-line shutoff. I've used the cheap plastic shut-offs before (black body/red knob), and they had worked fine. BUT NOT TODAY... First one leaked...go back to store and exchange it...Second one leaked... So I'll never buy one of those again, I ordered a nice metal in-line fuel ball valve.

Since I was ordering stuff, the in-tank fuel valve on my Troybilt hasn't been functional for a couple years, can't shut it off (Kohler 7hp with steel fuel tank) So I also ordered the correct in-tank valve.

The best M/C road racing I ever saw.....

Was World Super Bike from about 2000-2005. These were factory over the counter litre bikes that basically had no rules twds modifications. Factory, run whatcha brung....just needs to be based on their sales model. There wasn't any need for rules to keep parity. It was wide open, old skool development.

Each race would see dzs of lead changes, with at least 3 different manufacturers right up front. The fans really got their money's worth through those years. Older retired Moto GP riders were even coming back "down" to this class because it was so much fun.

It was a "perfect storm" for about 5 years before the series got out of alignment. It wasn't that way here in the US. Our superbikes series was effed up because of contingency money..... Suzuki was paying,by far,the most money to privateers. Then they worked to keep it in their favor by twisting the rules..... not tha I blame them. Just that it was pi$$ poor compared to the free for all WSB series.

The British superbikes were a good watch too but, their riders were so heck bent on moving "up" that it showed in lack of quality.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
Spent yesterday on the road. It was exhausting. And to think I used to to that all day 5-6 days a week or more, and for 8-16 hours. I'm OLD!

Got nuthin' done really. Did spend about 1/2 hour trying figuring out why Toronto Dominion Bank wasn't taking out an auto payment for 2 months. Spent most of that time on hold. Turns out they had a computer glitch and I was somehow supposed to divine this through telepathy. They keep telling me my email address isn't good, I keep sending them the correct one and they can't seem to fix it. Ever hear of physical mail? Tractor Supply does that same. I check out, the machine asks if my email is correct, I say no, the counter guy enters everything in lower case and submits it, next time I go it's back to upper case! I give up.

Started watching a WW2 documentary. The early years were real tough times to be a merchant seaman in the Atlantic!
