Not long ago I was at a show and foolishly passed on a #1 in 45&70 and a #3 also in 45-70 .. $ 425 and 450 .......
I have a dead cartridge , turning 30-30 rims off for it is a drag .
Do your thing
At first I thought he was talking about making brass for the 6.5 Arisaka. You can do that by turning down the rim on 303 Brit or 30-40 Krag.30 Remington?
Thanks for your thoughts.
Here are mine.
1. I don't want a shoulder beating 6&1/2 rifle.
2. The 357 Maximum is dead as the dodo.
3. 350 Legend ammo is not hard to find and 100 cases are a lifetime supply.
4, It does not have a rebated rim, it is a rimless cartridge
5. It's chambered in many platforms already.
6. I handload so can have a 38 short Colt round ball load if I wish.
I see no reason not to.
I;m not sure where you are trying to go with this. You asked for opinions, you got them. If you want a 350 Legend #1, then by all means, go for it. It sounds to me like you are trying to justify it to yourself or something. If I had the wherewithal I'd have a CPA 44 1/2 with 3 barrels and 2 buttstocks. Do what makes you happy! You guys are tough !
Ruger No. 1s are a representation of the genius of Bill Ruger, beautiful and dead simple stupid stronger than almost any action and have been made from 22 rimftre to 500 Nitro.
They can also be works of art like my custom 220 Swift (below).
It appears WRA has finally settled on .357 as bullet diameter ( see latest ads).
At 79 I am out of hard kickers and dont want/need even a 35-30 (totally wrong twist) or any bigger 35.
The 350 Legend has been well proven on the AR platform and is well thought of in the AR community ( own 3, 223,300 B/O,308).
pics my fancy Swift and some of my other No. 1s. Most sold. Kept 450-400 and 458 rebarrelled to 6.5-300 BEE.
You would never be sorry! My shooting buddy has one with 32/20 for breach seating and a 25/35 cartridge shooting. Only one butt stock because he can only shoot from the bench now, and BR forend. If I had the wherewithal I'd have a CPA 44 1/2 with 3 barrels and 2 buttstocks. Do what makes you happy!
Why can't you let go. I read, considered and rejected chambering for an obsolete cartridge with less power and no facory support than the 350 Legend.1. The 357 Max will not give you a beating, even in a 5.5# rifle. From either end of any rifle, I can't imagine the Max or the "Legend" being any different. Tie.
2. The Max is not as easy to find as many other things, but Starline fairly recently invested in making it, so there's a significant enough" market to support production. Given "the times," it's a tough call on production of ANY brass that's not 9mm or 5.56. Up for grabs, depending on whether production support continues over time.
3. 100 Starline 357 Max.cases is a "lifetime supply" quite as easily. I KNOW how it holds up over many firings, but I do not know how 350 "Legend" will stand up. Tie, especially in a single-shot.
4. The rim, as far as I know, is smaller than the base of the case. That's a rebated rim, regardless of what the marketing boys wish to call it. Not sure why it matters.
5. Yep, the 357 Max is a revolver/single-shot cartridge. Can't shoot it in an AR, but I grew out of those 40+ years ago. My personal preference is single-shots, so the fact that the Max doesn't work in an AR doesn't bother me.
6. Dead tie on this one.
7. I can shoot 357s, using any 357/358 (or larger) bullet I wish, seated short, seated long, ANY nose profile, fast or slow.
8. IF I DID have an AR in 350 "legend," then I could rationalize having a single-shot so-chambered as well. I don't, so the Max makes more sense.
When I bought mt 81 in 30 Rem it took me less than 3 weeks to find all this factory ammo for max of $40/box in 2021.32 Rem . Fortunately in my search for 100 correct 264 WM brass I came up with 150 correct 32 Rem . 20 factory loaded .
I turned a few for 7×6.8 SPC before I had 2 headstamps to keep the 7×6.8 out of the 6.8 .
The responses I got did don't meet the test of logic. Simple as that.I;m not sure where you are trying to go with this. You asked for opinions, you got them. Some suggested a 358 Winchester - very nasty in a 6.5 pound rifle.1. The 357 Max will not give you a beating, even in a 5.5# rifle. From either end of any rifle, I can't imagine the Max or the "Legend" being any different. Tie.

There are lots of bolt guns in 350 Legend. https://www.sportsmansoutdoorsuperstore.com/category.cfm/sportsman/bolt-action-rifles/of3/350-LEGENDOkay, this is the first time I have heard of the 350 Legend, not being a fan of self loading firearms. If I comprehend what I am reading, the Legend is not easily made from 5.56 brass?
I ask because a bolt action built around a 5.56 wildcat does sound fun.
Kevin
I buy every one under $800.Not long ago I was at a show and foolishly passed on a #1 in 45&70 and a #3 also in 45-70 .. $ 425 and 450 .......

All factory wood.Did you re-stock all off those? My Ruger #1 doesn't look nearly as pretty as any of yours.
Just comparing comparisons. Seems like a dead-heat other than personal choice. Why can't you let go. I read, considered and rejected chambering for an obsolete cartridge with less power and no facory support than the 350 Legend.
The MAX has no advantage over a 350 Legend IN A RUGER NO. 1.
