Ruger No. 1 350 Legend ?

Well, I have the max in a 10" contender and a 22" Handi rifle. With 180-220 gr bullets the Max ties or surpasses my 336 Marlin 35 Remington. The Marlin beats it with 250 gr bullets but that is another story. An acquaintance has a 350 Legend in Michigan. He can't get his AR to stabilize anything over 150 grains, and cast has to be pc'd and hard. Surplus 9mm bullets 147 gr JHP or cast sized to .355 shoot well, 125 are even better. If that is useful for you go for it. If you like heavy bullets, keep looking. There really are no flies on the standard 357 loading in a rifle.
Mornin John,

I worked allot with my Maxi in Contender 14, 21" and a H&R 22" and later a 17" Hunted mostly with a 190cast and 180 SSP. That SSP was a dandy!!
Working up with 1680 powder I nearly hit 2100 fps before seeing pressure. Now I know full well I was past 40K to do that but who knows. I do know its preformance and I like and trust it! Within its limitations. For me thats inside 200 yards. I never did "push" the maxi past 125.
I have loaded the maxi to 280g but it didnt shoot them well. I now shoot the NOE 360-232 230g and its a nice combo. I picked up this mold for the 358's. I have loaded them to about 1700 but 1500 shoots best.

I consider the Legend of the same limitations. Only I shoot mostly my cast in my bolt a d 165 FTX from My MSR. The latter shoots them to 2350 fps before pressure and near MOA accuracy. From the bolt (and Im surprised you buddy has issues) I shoot up to a 270g cast. Soft too! It shoots 2" 50 yard groups @ 1100 fps. But I do see instability beginning. So kicking it to 1200+ a but I get nice round holes again. Shooting a Saeco 245g or a NOE 360-232 its a dandy cutting or nearly so same holes.
Last year I borrowed a couple MP molds. One 200g from Tommie boy and a 220g from a local buddy. Same exact bullet profiles only weight and HP as a difference. WOW WOW, are these dandy bullets and they are me favorites!! Both was HP/solids. I took a small buck with a small chg of Blue Dot and a 20:1 220hp. In and out with minor expansion with ribs hit. Deer went 50 ish and tipped onto his nose. About 1400 fps est velocity.
I have also shot some heavies in the MSR 24" Faxon barrel. All are 1:16. IINH the H&R was 1:15.5 twist.
The Maxi holds a special place, the Legend is growin on me and I do like it. Mostly I like 35 calibers. ;) :p
