What is your weather today?

Well, I paid the price for mentioning Central AC in my camp. It died today. Unit is well over 30 years old, probably close to 40. Had a guy here, he gave me the usual "Too old to be worthwhile fixing. Better to spend the money on a new unit". So, got a hold of an old friend who was in the business. He called the guy that he gave all his customers to, and he'll be over tomorrow to take a look. Got my fingers crossed. In the meantime, got a fan blowing over a bowl of ice cubes.

30 years? Maybe 40? Geez, replaced mine at 15 years after the second service call in the same year. I can't even imagine getting any parts for a 30 year old unit.

Several years ago, the accumulator rotted out. Otherwise, the unit was fine. I went online and did a search and it was not long before I found a replacement accumulator. My guy put it in and we were back in business. About 3 years ago, I noticed rusty water coming out the condensate drain pipe. Went up into the attic and found that the galvanized pan that catches the condensation dripping off the coils was pretty rusty. Got a bottle of extend and coated the entire surface to convert the rust. Then got a can of POR15 and coated the entire pan. It was a PITA because I had to tape a long stick on the brush to get all the way to the back. Worked, though.

I'm going to have to spring for a new unit eventually. I realize that. I'm trying to delay it to when the weather does not require us to be using it.

About a year and a half, tour got cut short when they deactivaded the 6th Infantry Division and closed down the DIVARTY. Ticked me off to say the least, I was a young captain waiting for a battery command and that got shot to hell. To make matters worse, I had to do my penance on a battalion staff like everybody else and was the S1, so with closing down a unit, an already haavy workload and thankless job got ten times worse. I didn't get out much, really didn't have a very good time and was glad to see it in my rear view mirror when I split.

It is a pretty cool place and I would probably like it a lot better now or even then under better circumstances, most of my gripes were work related. Wouldn't mind going to see it again sometime, but I have become rather averse to traveling since I retired in 2012, just like to be home now, too many years of being gone all the time do that to you.
Sorry to hear that your time up there was all work and very little to no play.
That really sucks.

I was very fortunate.
I got to go to several out of the way places and see a great deal of the state from the air.
I was a crew chief on a C-130E and at least 15 times I was invited by the crew to go along for the ride.
Most of the time the flight line expediter, good ole SSGT Klemovitch would say yes.
Being a little Indian did have its advantages. ;)

The trip up and back was the funnest part. Wife and I drove the Alcan Highway in February and I drove it back with my dog and my brother in June, so got to see it Summer and Winter.

I will say it was probably the gun friendliest place ever. Gun shows all the time, many stores, even things that called themselves drug stores had a gun counter. Pretty cool in that regard.

Heating & Cooling company coming on Monday to install the new geothermal unit. Spent 3 to 4 months shuffling money so we wouldn't have to turn around and give the feds back the 26% tax credit in the form of income taxes. Then, because of the supply chain problem the geothermal heat pump manufacturer couldn't get the parts to assemble the heat pump. That took another 3 months.

Heating & cooling company loaned us a couple of window A/C units and the basement stays cool no matter what. So, we're not completely comfortable, but not dying of heat either.

Well we are having absolutely fantastic weather. Low to mid 70’s, bright blue skies, very light breeze, on a rare occasion a single engine float plane will cross over on it’s way to Minto. Not one earth bound combustion engine to disturb the silence.
Been this way for a few days now that the rain has stopped.
Just doesn’t get any better than this.

Desert is heating up here. Temperature today was 99* and heading up to 106+ by Thursday. Haven't seen a cloud in three days. Mz Tillie, the bulldog, will only go out to pee, chase the cats out of the back yard, then wants back in.

Bad part is I don't a any empty brass, so no reloading in the man room. :sigh:

A gorgeous late July dawn. My Father would step outside on a morning such as this and declare with certainty, "Fall's comin'." 57°, the hills looking all bluish with the haze, wisps of fog in the valleys, and as still as death out. Not a leaf quivering. The grasses all silver with dew. Damn I like living here.

Warming up here in the PNW, topping out about 110* on Thursday, but cooling to the low 70's at night. Humidity 15% during the day and 50% just before dawn.

"OK, OK, I'm going as fast as I don't want to go!"
For the Mojave Desert, things have been mostly under the norm. 99 today, 101 tomorrow and high 90's for all next week.

Usually this time of year we are at 110 or more. The world is on fire except here where it should be.
