so waht ya doin today?

ITS, nice pic! Anyone got a theory on why everything tastes better outdoors? A 3/4 burnt, cheapy hotdog cooked over a little fire in the woods tastes as good as the best prime rib, and if you have bun or bread for it and some mustard, it's even better. Weird, but most folks seem to agree. Get over into the stew cooked in a dutch oven all day with biscuits made in a reflector oven, followed by peach cobbler made in another dutch oven buried in the coals...now that's eating!

I get the impression most of us here like our privacy. Family is one thing, but having the general population in your business everyday isn't for us. Makes sense to me.

I actually did a little shooting yesterday. Everyone was gone, I actually had the day completely to myself for the first time in 12-13 years. It was weird. Anyway, I had to go open up some roads and take care of some chores near the sandpit, so I took the Kit Gun and 50 rounds. I actually surprised myself be hitting the targets I was aiming at. No, I didn't hit the bull, no "Ben groups" to brag on, but I was on target. I could probably feed myself given in bow range and if I adjusted the sights. The Kit Gun has been sighted for short HP's for the last 25 years so it hits high with LR hi speed stuff. But I really do need to find a prescription for the eyes that will help. Barely made it out of the sandpit with the Ford and chains hauling an empty manure spreader, but I didn't ahve to walk home so that's a win.

10F and moderately heavy snow here now. Might be lake effect, I don't know. Winds right.

The building permit to construct the space would be cake compared to getting a permit to construct a shooting range. We can shoot outdoors (where permissible) all we want, even build backyard ranges like mine and Winelover's, but the instant you make a ventilation system to put the same "exhaust" into the environment from your indoor range, the EPA becomes involved and you have to spend beaucoup $$$ on design, construction, inspection, disposaln and maintenance, just like a commercial indoor range.
well, that's all good to know...and just shows I've only 'thought' about this many times and haven't done one lick of research. Anyway, I can surely put that out of my mind and continue to be a generous member at my sportsman club (5 miles out of town).

Don't get me wrong, my in-laws are great people. They would do anything for us.
They would just be talking the whole time without taking a breath.

I thought about putting a 100 foot 22 range in the mow (loft to some, it's the 2nd/3rd/4th floor area of my barns upstairs). Never got to it.

Making beef stew.

Us too. Marie has a pot roast slow-cooking to make shredded beef with, some of which stays with the veggies and stock. Great dinner in cool weather. THE BEST!

Much of the local mountains and high desert got snow-and-ice-hammered last night. There was black ice on I-215 in San Bernardino, Cajon and Tejon Passes got shut down overnight, 2 inches of snow in Las Vegas, I-15 was closed between Baker and the NV line due to ice. Kingman AZ is all whitened, too.

CA drivers don't have sense enough to NOT DRIVE IN BAD WEATHER. Maybe--just MAYBE--it might be a good idea to NOT DRIVE until the roads get plowed out......YA THINK? But, noooooo.......the first order of business as soon as the snow flies is to drive right to it, no chains/no 4WD/no food-water-winter clothing. Tank tops, boxing trunks, and CA All-Weather Shoes (flip-flops, AKA Las Chanclas). BRILLIANT.

Yuck. You coulda been here this afternoon, clear, dry, and upper 60s. I could have used your help showing me how to weld pipe while I tweaked the controls for you :p

60 sounds great! I don't believe I have anything to show you about welding pipe, nice try though.;)
It's been a fulltime job making Chevy run here lately, but I don't mind helping. Get a few piggies lined up, now THAT I CAN help with.:p

Today not to bad, horn fix, new multifunction switch, & ignition key tumbler to match the new door looks.

Loaded up 20 rounds of .223 with 55gr Nosler Varmagedon bullets over 25gr H335. 10 rounds @ .010" off the lands and 10 rounds jammed .010" into the lands. Need a dry weekend to go test.

Currently trying to get from Colorado Spgs to Limon, the snow has stopped and it is a balmy 3F out.
Tomorrow the drive into KC from far eastern edge of Colorado should be a bit interesting. Weather
guessers are calling for a lot of snow. We will see.

Broke in a MP mould after putting the kid to bed. First casting I've done in a while judging by me not remembering when or why I had made a pile of Lee 309-150 RN and left them on the drop towel.

Gap shooting Pistolero.

You pick a spot, over or under X ring..... put the tip of the arrow on it,at full draw... cut it loose. We all do it on anything past about 40 yards or so..... it's fun I guess? Gap shooting is like benchrest archery, nothing "wrong" with it,different strokes for different folks. We shoot split vision and pure instinctive.

3D has been around since the late 80's? sumthin like that. Went from ridiculously hard and challenging to..... mowed/manicured shooting lanes with each shot basically set up so that compound sight shooters have effectively the same BR shot everytime. They like hitting X's,treating it more like a game than tactical practice for hunting.

When the boys were little, uhhh they weren't all that understanding of all the pre shot protocol that the compound guys would go through..... and would get to laughing and giggling in their "back swing". Now on one hand we're like, well that isn't very polite.... but then too,if you're going to get to the next level..... it means shooting shoulder to shoulder, usually indoors so you best learn to deal with every "trick" in the book by the competition.

Interesting thing about trad bows is..... new $$$ bows usually don't mean she-at. The guys who make their own,go straight to the head of the class, and those who show up with the old stuff(instead of them hanging in a collection) also get respect. We enjoy the competition, enjoying each others companionship..... the razzing and heckling. I'd say 90% of the trad guys value the fun and brotherhood more than outright competition. Buuuuut, you still want to beat your buddy,haha..... you just also want to look better doing it,and have cooler equipment..... and nicer arrows.... and better looking women..... cuter kids.

The G-babies are ruthless..... taking every advantage they can get. We have a handicap system that serves to get them right in the thick of the competition. They also get right dang picky about their equipment. My oldest G-daughter asked to not be "handicapped" a year ago. She still shoots from closer but, that's it. No bumping up score rings.

Women shoot trad bows so much better than a typical Male that it's downright eerie. They process shooting so much differently, and it stands out like a blinking neon sign. Much more flowing and fluid. Dosen't show up with compounds and sights but give them a tuned hotrod recurve...... they will put you in your place. When the boys were little, one of the women shooters was a 10+ time international champ. She used to love hanging with the kids..... so nice.

ITS, someplace in the barn is my first "good" bow, a gaudy Bear "76er" in red, white and blue IIRC. 55 lbs of fiberglass and steel. Heavy as a dead preacher and I know there's no way I could draw it now. Never saw a bow sight until I was in my mid 20's. Instinctive was all we knew about. Time do change, that they do.

Wifes coming home today, better do a little more cleaning. Cold and clear here, looks like a nice day.
