so waht ya doin today?

Bret4207

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
I'm with Bret. Always had a commute except in college. Living in the dorms and later in an RV park was more than I could stand for long. My nearest neighbor now is over 100 yards away and that is way too damned close because I can hear their dogs bark all night, their conjunto music blaring all weekend, and they are always burning something be it trash or brush. The dream is to own enough land to not be affected by the worst case scenario neighbor, but then there's reality.

Ha! I know what you mean. When we moved up here it was like moving to the big city for us. We were used to either driving close to 2 hours north or south to get to a small city with whatever the equivalent of a Walmart was 25 years ago. We got up here and there were multiple grocery stores, dept (for lack of a better word) stores, shoe stores, restaurants, etc just a half hour away. 45 minutes in the other direction got you to a good sized city with a mall and all the shopping stuff. It was something new to us to be able to do the shopping without having to dedicate most of a day to making the trip. We had an actual hospital just 15 minutes away. It was amazing. Such convenience!

In my small town, I have many neighbors close by. I like them all, they are great neighbors for the most part. I got a sneaking suspicion I am the neighbor they wish they didn't have to put up with :confused:

There's nothing at all wrong with socialite lifestyles...it's just not for me. I get my energy and kicks from projects and hobbies that I do almost exclusively alone and in solitude. Other people get their energy and kicks from socializing with other people and doing things together in groups. It takes all kinds.

We moved snow this morning. A good 5-6” of it. And more is expected Tuesday night and maybe even more next weekend.

Come on spring! I want a few days in the 40-50 range to get rid of some of this crap.

Wouldn't call myself antisocial, but would ideally like my nearest neighbor no closer than a quarter mile away.
We're hoping to end up with minimum 10 acres. Would rather have over 20, so that there might be some potential for hunting my own property.
Would like to have at least 3,000 square feet of living space with most of that arranged so that future wheelchair or disabled access could be made possible if that were to become necessary.
Need an absolute minimum of 700 sq. ft. of shop space.

Frosty this morning, 50-ish now and quite gusty. Our rain might be over for a week or so.

I’m not antisocial in that I don’t want others living nearby. What I do want is to be left alone.
I wouldn’t mind having the space for a private range.

Underground range. No mud, no snow, no blistering sun. Might need a 12" water pump hooked to an 8V92 Detroit to keep it dry, though.

I have thought about a underground range many times. My house is at one end of my Lot and the garage at the other end...about 75 feet of ground/garden in between. I have two cellars and mostly crawl space under the house, I could dig a third cellar and sound proof it and bury a large tile to the garage, and have ventilation out there exhausting it. I doubt I could get a building permit for it though?

The building permit to construct the space would be cake compared to getting a permit to construct a shooting range. We can shoot outdoors (where permissible) all we want, even build backyard ranges like mine and Winelover's, but the instant you make a ventilation system to put the same "exhaust" into the environment from your indoor range, the EPA becomes involved and you have to spend beaucoup $$$ on design, construction, inspection, disposaln and maintenance, just like a commercial indoor range.

A friend of mine once used this for a sig line on the internet boards he frequented: "I'm uncomfortable with people who are uncomfortable with silence".

I liked his way of thinking.

I'm sorting bullet moulds today. Whenever I find duplicates I mount both sets on handles and have a short casting session with both/all of them. Trying to decide what to keep and what to sell. I got a real surprise on my pair of 452374 Lymans. This is the round nose design of course, and I have a really clean one, and a really grubby one. So I cast with them for a few minutes, let the bullets cool, and measured them. Now 452374s can have a slight problem. Some moulds are undersized ahead of the lube groove, giving them minimal support to the nose which allows the bullet to yaw in the barrel when fired. My clean mould was okay, .453ish in front, but the grubby one was .454+!. I'm keeping both of them, but the grubby mould will get a facelift, and go to Erik for hollowpointing. It is the most worthy. Tomorrow, 429244, and my multitude of 358156s.

It's still cold here and we have about 1 1/2" of snow on the ground that hasn't blown off yet. Not going to be above freezing for a week with single digit lows on either side of zero. It has been a mild winter except for Feb, I wouldn't worry about Montana flooding yet. Snowpack in SW MT is still below average.

Spent the day cutting firewood with my youngest daughter. She called this morning and my wife told her I was moving snow to find my logs. She is on a workout plan of some kind and said she needed a cardio workout? So she drives down and brings her 3 year old. Grandma is in heaven all day playing with our youngest grandchild, while we cut firewood. My daughter is wearing a heart monitor that tells her her heart rate and how many calories she burns. She figured she burned 3200 calories today. Lol

I'd prefer a min. of 25 acres with the house set well back away from the road, like at the far end of the property! I like people well enough I guess, I just like them over "there" and not "here", if you follow.

Well we do have something in common................you pretty much described my place.

Oldest and youngest are half mountain goats. Grew up not far from the AT(Appalachian trail)..... they live to hunt/hike/shoot. The shoot was pretty well attended.... 40? Shooters.

Lunch was deer burger sliders, asparagus and homemade shrimp macaroni salad.8429
