Has anyone re stocked a Rossi with Winchester 92 Wood?

I picked up a grail gun of mine. Its a 454 Rossi 92. I love tge gun but not the wood. Its Brazilian Hardwood and its stained red. Im sure I could refinish to more pleasing. But its more then color and figure. Its a funky shape. With a fugly recoil pad.

I am pretty sure Winchester 92 wood would fit. Im pretty handy with things. Just wondering if anyone has hoed this row?

I have not . The 86' built example I had was fitted with an exceptionally nice butt stock . I doubt very much that it is OE . I'm told that except for bolt internal parts and I can't remember which ones now but it was maybe the ejector that they are within fitting of parts interchange. Buckshot had one that needed the part and he only had half of it . Taurus wouldn't or couldn't fix it as a warranty thing because of ownership, vintage, or something and wouldn't sell him the part/s either. It seems like he was able to get a drawing but not the part from Browning and made one .......50¢ part , $30 in phone calls , $10 of mat'l , and $8k in tools and he had the $300 rifle back running.

they have a list of parts you can't buy somewhere on their website.

but yeah,, the 92 wood fits the rossi's.
just like everything else mass produced [ahem,, especially in 3 different country's and over 130 years] there might be a little bit of screw placement difference etc.

Makes me glad I bought a 90s era gun used instead of new for same money. Broken in already and it have a nice dark brown stock, not the red abomination they use today.

Mine is a bit funky... squared off on too like a carbine stock. Stock is very narrow top to bottom with a cheap rubber ventilated pad. Plus the Mahogany red color. :headbang: :sigh:

Winchesters had a red tint to their finishes. I'm red/green colorblind and even I can see the red in the old Win finishes. I suspect this is where Rossi got the idea to make theirs red.

I have a can of Herter's French Red that is almost like a paste. Intended to fill all the pores and impart a red tint to the stock. I love the final color that results from using it.

There is a red tint and there is fricking RED!
the new Rossi rifles have a stock that looks like someone threw a cherry stain on some blond wood.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
I prefer a reddish hue to the awful blonde on so many low cost guns of the 70's/80's. My Mossberg 500 is hideous, always has been. Plus the pistol grip is way oversized as is the fore end. I started removing wood from both stocks 20years ago with the intention of getting a feel more like my Ithaca 16 ga. Another project un-done!!!

Treebone Carving. You won't be disappointed.
I have emailed him. But his site says he does not make forends for Rossi or Italians as they are not the same. Butts can be modified from 92's.

So we see what he says but Boyds may be only option.

Return email received from Tbone. It was just as he said on the website. The stocks can be hand fit to work, but basically no guarantees turn around time two months in about 300 bucks. CW
