Re-Stocking a Rossi

Yup... I dont "hate" any caliber or gun. How does one "hate" an inanimate object? Its a tool that has no use or need to me. Largely, BECAUSE I see better choices. Im a 35 cal nut too!! For me I like the oddity or the "underdog" in firearm calibers. I largly dislike many simply because they are so popular. I see a blind following when something is so universally loved. (Caliber or gun wise) "We" know the ins and outs of any given gun or caliber far, better then the new, casual or even average shooter. Im old enough to remember the days the 9mm was looked down upon universally. 45 was used because there was no 46... Today we have "46" but the 45 remains.

Cottage industry of aftermarket parts, as well as, the gun rags, keep the 1911 alive. :headscratch:Could never understand, if the platform was so great, why the constant need for improvement?

IMG_1471.jpegIMG_1472.jpegI would came in last night. Steve's guns is where I ended up buying it. And it is made by Boyds. Took me a good two 2 1/2 hours to get the stocks to fit the gun. I still need to go back and takeoff all the extra wood that's above the metal but the stock fit the gun now.

Video is posted to YouTube and in queue for this weekend's showing

Here's a sneak peek..

(Grrr. My pics, should go where I choose, not where the software chooses!!.!)

Looking good!
How much weight did the laminated wood add? Is the difference even noticeable?
I would put Tru- Oil on it, then dull the shine with 0000 steel wool.
The 1911 needs exactly zero aftermarket parts to do what it was designed to do- put 7 fmj bullets into an enemy reliably.
Buuut….. they are wide open for customization- hence the aftermarket buisiness.
The ARs & 10/22s are awash in aftermarket parts too.
The basic gun works but some feel the need to dress them up.

Because if you were going to shoot a 3 gun class in competition, which used to be a HUGE thing, you had to have a 45...and most people went with a 1911. Outside of accurizing, most of the "improvements" were aimed at looks more than function. I can't find any evidence the 1911 ever DIDN'T have a good following and I've got research material going back to it's introduction. That being said, I prefer the feel of a Hi Power, Mr Brownings later brain child.

You know what I never understood? Why everyone had to have a MAGNUM something. I've shot a few big boomers and outside of getting kicked silly, I don't see the draw. I think a lot of that was pure advertising hype. You can't do very much with a 22" barreled 7 Rem Mag that you can't do with a 22" barreled 280. You might gain 50 or 75 yards effective range, but just how many people can accurately judge distance and wind at 300+ yards? Not many.

now i'm wondering what the MSRP on that tombstone is, it'd be a good companion to the Hi-Point carbine.

I can honestly say there's no approachable weight difference. These stocks are a little more trim than the factory. The butt stock in particular has the four ends about identical. It's also a little bit shorter than the factory stock.

Yes, definitely on the refinish but that's gonna be after I finish shaping around the wrist because right now the wood is proud of the metal. Much better proposition than the opposite. ;)

I like it !...

Yeah.....

I'm with @462 too though - a "distinct look," but I still like it. I'm not sure why, because I'd have never chosen that color. Seeing it on the gun though makes me sort of like it, but still not be quite sure. There's an allure to that in itself.

It's definitely distinct, but not weird and not really gawdy. There really is something about that combination that appeals to me, but I can't put my finger on it.

GAH 1895$$$$ for thAT RIFLE.
nope,, it looked dang accurate though... no more so than most of my Rossi's and at 1900 bucks it should punch them all damn near through the same hole.

It's not the traditional walnut or other solid hardwood, but when that gets some finish on it - it's going to be sharp.

off the Rossi website you can get a nice adjustable M-4 type stock and go full tactical.
it even has an optional 5 round bullet holder, and a cheek piece riser available for red dot's and the like.
I think I just threw up in my throat a little.

CW, I like the looks of that stock set. On the S/S it is great looking.
