Some LOVELY wheelguns in this thread. I should do some pics of my favorites. Mine are not aesthetically as gorgeous as many shown here, but their utility and the memories I have made with them lend a luster to them that might not translate visually.

This gun started off life as a run of the mill Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 Magnum. I rechambered the cylinder to a tight .45 Colt (.480" chambers, .452" throats), fit a 7 1/2" .45 barrel to the cylinder/frame, re-stamped the frame, touched up the blue, added a Belt Mountain base pin, and made a pair of curly maple grips for it. It seems to shoot OK....

I am very much a revolver guy and picking one for this thread was tough.
Since I don't own any "safe queens", I thought one of the working guns would be the way to go.

Not rare or special, but one that was fun to get it right.

A plain jane Model 10-5, with Robar NP3 finish (including all of the parts) and a basic set of Pachmayr Grippers.

I initially thought I had got an excellent deal. It was pristine and looked to be unfired. Internally it was perfect except for the dried up oil that S&W had put in there decades ago. It has an import stamp, so it left the U.S. and then returned.
However, closer examination revealed why it was priced low. The barrel to cylinder gap was huge. It may have failed some inspection and simply lived its life in an armory somewhere.
So I had the barrel set back to correct the B/C gap, polished the trigger face smooth, and sent it off for the NP3 finish. It now serves as a Kit Gun.

It is no longer in unfired condition.

Here's my 1860 Colt Cap & Ball, manufactured in 1866 g/t.

Back in the early 1950s, my father was doing a fair amount of gunsmithing. He did a job for an old rancher who lived in the Mojave and was given this revolver in return for the work. The sixgun was lost by the rancher's father decades earlier when his horse threw him. After looking 3 or 4 times each week, he recovered it a couple/few months later partially buried in the dirt in the shade of a largish rock. The muzzle was partially buried and was so rusted it was not saveable.

Two S&W and Two H&Rs. One H&R hammerless is cherry! Others are well used.

Some very beautiful revolvers shown. Some years back I went on a 44 special quest. My first one is a S&W 624 with the 6.5" long barrel. With the Winchester 200 grain silvertip factory loading it's like shooting a 38 special. My wife used to be into hematite jewelry so while she hunted for that, I found a nice 24-3 with the 3" barrel and combat grips. I got busted just as the dealer finished the paperwork and had made the phone call. Busted big time $750 worth. Last one I found is another 24-3 with the 4" barrel. Shoots great but the factory grips are a bit too large. Sorry no pics. I'm electronically challenged. Frank
