I dunno Bret . . . . Sounds like sticker shock time to me. Unless of course your new dryer is patiently waiting off shore until . . . ???

Washers and dryers have doubled in price in the last year.
We have a new fridge likely sitting on a container ship anchored off one of the seaports. Ordered it nearly 4 months ago.

I took what was available the seemed to suit us. And yes, prices have doubled. Now I have to get it down stairs and then I'll look for the warranty. We usually but the 5 year extended warranty. Should be on record...I hope.

I spent a career in the home electronics and major home appliance business. I buy major appliances manufactured by American-owned companies. No exceptions. Yes, some may be assembled in Mexico, or from off-shore sourced components, but they are American-owned.

My new battery powered drill, impact driver, and leaf blower are Milwaukee, and when the time comes for a new reciprocating saw it will be Milwaukee, too.

I've been cutting my Chi-Com dependency as much as it's anymore possible.

Great, pot wax ring is leaking. Got to get some strong back to help replace it. Been playing with GRT powder choice SW. Doesn't quite match their load data for Legend. Sprayed the yard for weeds, nursing her eye for another 2 days. Said she thinks she can see better now. Sure hope so, else $ for nothing. Get to get a shot to calm the inflamed sciatic leg nerve Tues. Hope it helps.

We bought a Whirlpool/Kenmore fridge. Went with Sears because whether a Sears appliance is 10 or 20 years old, when they're way out of warranty and I've repaired them myself, I've never been told, 'we don't stock that part anymore'. Also, Whirlpool gets slightly higher marks in reviews than the others, with the exception of Subzero, Viking or the other high-end brands.

My beloved advises me prices on dryers have not doubled. They've only gone up about 60% it seems. I stand corrected.

I wanted to get Speed Queen washer and dryer, but she said no. Okay, whatever. I did see Lowes now offers Maytag, IIRC, commercial washers and dryers. At least they say they are commercial. Up about $1K, so, maybe.

I had an old Kenmore washer from the late 70's/early 80's out int he milk room for washing barn and shop rags, dog blankets, etc. Thing weighed a ton, all copper inside. I let the pump freeze. I should have just replaced the pump and kept it. Did a fantastic job and real fast too.

Maytag is another brand now under the big Whirlpool corporate umbrella. When Whirlpool acquired Maytag, along with it came Maytag-owned Jenn-Aire and Magic Chef.

Got out of the house for the day, Marie and I ran up SR 74 south of Palm Desert up to Idylwild and continued west out toward Hemet. Lots of road repairs under way throughout the drive, getting things in shape before the snow flies (again).

From Hemet, we headed west to the now-sold family ranch where Marie grew up, and it remains largely unchanged from its pre-sale condition. There is a crop of alfalfa planted and about 4 weeks along by Marie's estimate, so it is still being leased as ag land until the school district gets their ducks in a row to start construction on the new high school on that property.

From there we went to the nearby San Jacinto Wildlife Area, and spent about 2 hours enjoying the wildlife (minus war toys--just binocs this trip). This is a waterfowl hunt site, with man-made ponds and marshes to support those species. And were they EVER on hand today! Several hundred, maybe a thousand teal loafing on the water (greenwing and cinnamon varieties), along with a few dozen mallards and several dozen pintails. Those larger ducks are about 3 weeks to a month early, and that many teal already here is a similar clue--gonna be a cold, wet winter on the West Coast. I place a lot more trust in Nature's evidence than I do on NWS modeling and computer gizmos.

We recently replaced our ten year old Whirlpool washer with a USA made Speed Queen Commercial. We like it and recommend it to my sister when they were in the market for a new one. BIL, an engineer, set us an email thanking us. Cindy has quite a few friends that are happy with their Speed Queens. The area we live in, is a resort area, one local appliance store offers that brand due to demand.

Seems appliances are built to last not more than ten years, any more. We purchased all new appliances when we built, ten years ago. Already replaced a DCS (high end) two drawer type dishwasher, Whirlpool freezer, Samsung side by side refrigerator and the aforementioned washer. The Sub Zero all refrigerator and DCS dual fuel range are the only survivors.

When I was going thru our washing machine repair nightmare last winter I spent a good deal of time talking with 2 different appliance repairmen. Both said the expected life of an appliance was down to 3-5 years in "normal usage". Both also said more than 3 loads a week was above "normal"!!!!! We do at least 6-8 loads a week on average. Part of that is due to both Gordy and I being grease and dirt magnets, part of it due to owning old dogs with old bladders and part due to SWMBO insistence on breaking up her clothing ( and ours if she gets hold of it) into at least 4 different groups for special wash/drying methods. Pretty easy to exceed the 8 loads by 5-6 if it's a tough week or one of the older kids has washer issues. Add our hard water to the mix and I guess it's understandable why we are hard on clothes washing equipment.

I've been trying to find an old Maytag wringer washer for dog bedding. The local Amish snatch them up and pay big bucks for a good one. There's a little Honda motor that I'm told works great on them. I'd stick with electric if I could snag one.

Lost most of yesterday to the dryer. Today I'd planned on fixing the skid steer. Cold, wet and windy here, not ideal by any means for outside work. I might try getting the machine into the garage if I can move enough of everyones elses junk out of the way. Likely need to add some sheep/goat fence too and change fencer batteries. Gonna be fun, fun, fun!

No way to get a spring cramp on it?
I thought about it, but dont wanna over stress. Its a leaf and its even got a helper. Its the bottom of the tang the hammer and tang all held by that one screw. A slave should do it nicely. I just need a sacrifice drill bit. After breakfast & coffee Ill get it.

Been making a lot of improvements in the shop. We have a rack and pinion type arbor press that is bolted to a steel plate which is welded to the top of our steel welding table. I want to mount it and a large utility vise (my late BIL's contribution to our shop) on a stand that can be bolted to the floor. I'll have to cut the welds on the mounting plate loose to remove it from the tabletop.

Spent yesterday afternoon cutting up stuff from the scrap pile to make a stand. Last thing I did was take the small Milwaukee grinder with a flap disk and knock off all the surface rust from the parts. Yuck. In a few minutes I'll fire up our Lincoln MIG welder and do some welding, Had a new tank of 75/25 gas delivered Tuesday, got a spare spool of wire and a box of flap wheels. The weather is pretty nice, we can open the doors and get some ventilation.

My end goal is to get the top of our weld table cleared off. I want to lay out and drill/tap 1/2-13 threaded holes in a grid pattern in the top. If we can get it under the arm of our radial drill we can D/T with power, shouldn't be too much trouble, just a lot of work. Been wanting to do this for years, finally have the equipment and space to make it happen.
