IIRC gov requires O2 to be good for 50k mi. They are on the bottom of the car and maybe connector or gnd getting wet? But yes, sensor has to get hot to read right.

Today, I ordered a second OBDII code reader to keep in my Rav4.

Months ago, the first day I owned this car, I checked the air filter and unknowingly disconnected a tube (crankcase breather maybe?) to the air box. All kinds of codes fired, lighting up many indicators including VSC and 4WD. The next day, after a panic attack, when I figured out what I did, then re-hooked up the tube and all the indicators lights went out.

Saturday, during a road trip on 230 miles of snowy roads, the check engine light comes on, also VSC and 4WD lights come on also. The 4WD was disabled, and it was noticeable during driving, so I only had front wheel drive. I got to where I needed to go, but I sure would have preferred to have 4WD.

After I got home, I hook up my "cheapo, end user" code reader. I read the Code, it's a O² sensor. I clear the code, indicator lights go out. I have 4WD again. I read several places online about these 3rd Gen Rav4's, that any sensors that are in the fuel air mix control system, are also controlling the drivetrain. So, most any annoying code will disable the 4WD. I decide I need to carry a code reader (eraser) in the glove box.

As to this O² sensor code. I have a question.
*** Can moisture make the computer think it's failed, but is fine once the exhaust system dries out?

History, I made many short trips in the last couple weeks. Between the Below Zero temps, we had icy freezing rain a couple times, even froze the door shut. I got the driver door open and did the carwash thaw. Obviously LOTS of moisture before this Saturday road trip. the morning was well below freezing temps. The check engine light comes on after 20 miles of driving, just enough time for all the frosty moisture to melt and maybe corrupt? the signal on a O² sensor, I'm guessing. After driving all those miles, I'm thinking things are now dried out well. I've made two short trips with it since, and check engine light has stayed out. I don't want to replace a O² sensor if I don't have to.
Any thoughts?
My mechanic was just mentioning this very thing, (moisture in the exhaust system causing codes), a couple weeks back. IIRC he said it was related to the O2 sensor. I do know they had to replace an O2 sensor on oldest sons Matts S10 Blazer to get it to clear code that wee affecting a mess of other stuff. I think I mentioned before that a transmission code was keeping the vehicle from passing an emissions test! Why these things are set up this way, I don't know. I just know there is a reason I prefer to drive a vehicle with a GVWR of more than 8501lbs or 1995 or older- The check engine "Money Light" on the dash doesn't matter on those!!!

I placed an order for parts for the dirty, rotten, no good Coleman UTV last Fridayday I believe. It landed here today from Mo.! That's pretty good service IMO. The cam gear I ordered off the same places Ebay store the day before hasn't show up yet! One of the things I got was a chain breaker for the timing chain so I don't have to tear apart 3/4's of the entire machine to access the lower side of the engine. I found one just like it on Ebay, my question is- Does anyone know how it works? There are no instructions and while I've used various other larger chain breakers before, I've never used one like this. I'd really rather not break it or screw something up if someone is familiar with this- https://www.ebay.com/itm/353850896832?hash=item52632831c0:g:XKcAAOSwMmRh3FSt

I posted a PIF at the other forum for some old/worn reloading die bodies.
they may be good for some redneck machining projects.
If you are interested, I need you to claim them over there...sorry, just need to do it that way.
I'm not sure how long they'll sit unclaimed?

EDIT: well, they were claimed pretty quick.

If over there is where I assume it is, most of us are banned.

Swapped two rails on two M$Rs today...

Didnt think that that required removing gas blocks and barrel nuts... of coarse it wasnt smooth. I cracked a set/grub screw! Then broke a detent pin and spent a hour digging for tge BAG of pins and springs I bought so I wouldnt have to spend a hour looking... ;):headbang::p But I found it and got it all assembled. I got it the way I'm wanting now!! I was able to get back up sites with a Troy Aloha rail so I had to sawp red dots as only was was a 1/3 co-witness.

While looking I ran across a new set if Rem 700 Leupold DD matte bases!!! So I mounted them to the 6mm Project rifle!!

8.5 is about right in a lever rifle for target work.

i gotta start the Bronco more often, got the dreaded click wirr today when i went to start it.
had to tighten the ground cable a little bit [again, how they back off and loosen is beyond me]
put the charger on it for a while and took Jax to the bank and post office in the truck, come back and it wasn't ready to go yet.
so i took her to pay the electric bill, and the house taxes and for a ride out to the vets place on the edge of town and back home.
it fired up when i got back and she jumped in, so i went and got sixlet to go for a ride.
every road but the main highway is so rutted up with ice it's ridiculous and dangerous.
i damn near got stuck on every corner, and the anti-locks were wirring and chunking at every stop, i'd have rather been driving the dirt roads up in the mountains it would have been smoother.

Got PO'd at Lee Reloading tonight. Ordered 2 of them ultimated lock ring sets. Gives me 6 new style split lock rings, with an Allen retainer in them and 2 wrenches.
Was going to set down and set up all my dies that I like to unscrew and change to different presses with the same setting. Giving them a kind of permanent setting.
Well my plans of setting up all my dies and turrets the way I want them tonight is foiled.
Why can't they just be like everyone else and just throw an Allen wrench in with the set.
Apparently they are stuck in the dark ages and used an American Standard Allen wrench. And it happens to be a size that no other gun stuff I have ever bought uses.. I I only have a bound metric set that is complete, and have sorted thru about 50 loose Allen wrenches, none of them fit. So plans are off for the night
Guess I will have to take a run to the hardware tomorrow. Take one of the lock rings with me. :(

Is it a bad thing to get up at 4:30am to see what time the propane Co-op opens because it is cold in the house? I should back up a little. Woke up with a cold arm in the middle of the night. Not surprising, it's below zero outside, pull up covers go back to sleep. Wake up at 4:30 am, unusually cold in the house, furnace not running, hmmmmm. Check thermostat, 59 inside, thermostat set for 68 minus 3 outside. Hmmmmm. Brain a little foggy. Call emergency number for furnace repair? No, Occam's Razor, go to gas kitchen stove, won't light, huh. Next, go down stairs and get the wood stove going, chimney still warm from last night, draws good, get that burning. I guess we will get to test the theory that the wood burner can keep the pipes from freezing. I'd double check the propane tank, but that's mean opening a door and letting residual heat out. Besides, furnace out, kitchen range won't light, water heater calling for gas, pretty definitive that there is a gas supply issue.

Co-op opens at 7:30, cats are fed, wood stove is cheerily burning a load of clean red elm and the Mr. Coffee is electric. There is a single burner gas stove outside hooked to a 5 lb. cylinder of propane from waxing ducks. I can bring that inside if we need to cook something beyond the microwave.

Ross, do they charge a premium for propane, this time of the year? They do around here. Best to buy in the summer months. They do offer a pre-buy option, for those with smaller tanks. I only go though an average of 100 gallons per year. Buried propane tank (1000 gal) is mostly for the standby generator. We do have a gas fireplace, dryer, range, BBQ and backup gas water heater.

I had Cindy check the tank level, yesterday afternoon. She was going near there to check a bluebird house, I hung last year. Since last February's unexpected snow storm...........bluebirds sightings were rare this year. Yesterday, several bluebirds were using the birdbath so it triggered her curiosity about the nesting box....................which was completely empty.

L Ross, what size is your propane tank?
Just checked our propane gauge a couple of days ago, shows 670 gallons or thereabouts. 1,000 gallon tank was filled (800 gallons) a little over two years ago. Looks like combined cooking and heating (outside temps mostly 20-40), were averaging about 40 gallons/month. With our old geothermal heat pump on the fritz, the little propane heater in the dining room is taking care of all our heating needs.

Slap face.pngForgot to mention, we're currently at 80%, filled to 90% (buried tank) the Summer before last. On par with our yearly usage of an average of 100 gallons.

Kinda brisk at -10F this AM. F350, as always, failed to start because it's below 20F. I don't know what the issue is. Battery is in fine shape according to my pile tester, starters a year old, solenoid too, connections good, cables good. She's just a cold, cold blooded old beast. I could see having problems if it was a diesel, but it's a very well worn 351! Had to send Gord to work in the Burb.

After requesting some help here last night on that chain breaker, it occurred to me to check You Tube. Found out I have a "motorcycle chain breaker" and I got the basics on how to use it. Still, it would seem the maker would include some instructions, even if they are in genuine Chinese/American gibberish! (Apologies to "Blazing Saddles")

Had to break out the winter parka, a Swedish Army surplus knee length job. I bought 3 of them, wonderful coats! Only downside is they have a very thin outer shell and the zippers are junk and "backwards", eg- the female half is on the opposite side as we'd put it in the US. I'm going to have to find someone who can replace the zippers and find some dark green fabric to patch them up. Can't get them at the surplus store anymore. I expect I'll break out the wool trousers today too! Haven't worn them in 2 years. That's how I judge the severity of our winters- how many times did I have to wear the woolies?!!!

Oh we have a contract, and we have 450 dollars credit and the price locked in at 1.79 per. After we pissed and moaned for 3 years to get the unsightly, rusted, crusty tank changed out, (500 gallon), they showed up on 9/02 and changed it out, pumping our gas into the new tank. I do not believe they have been back since. They open in two minutes. We will have words.

Back when I was a LEO, I rarely wore a jacket, even though I worked mostly shift 3 (graveyard). When it was in the 40s and even just the 50s, people would look at you funny and say, "you aren't cold?" What they didn't know is, I had a thermal base layer, a t-shirt, a bullet-proof vest and a wool gabardine shirt on top.
