I dumped the walker yesterday.
Feeling stable without it and doing my 15 minute walking sessions and exercises.
I`m going to drive myself to PT Wednesday and my wife to Chemo on Thursday.
I am working hard to get myself back to my new normal, as they say.
I HAVE to get healthy enough to take 100% care of my wife of 60 years.
I`m not ready to walk around the big box stores yet but gaining every day.

Suprising how difficult that really is!!

I have taken to a smaller store sinpmly because I can get what's needed and not "hurt" as badly. Yea its more $$ but not that appreciably. Besides its a cost I "pay" either way.

Been with the wife a few times I had to bail to the truck or find a place to sit. Mostly I simply do not go.

Big Stores:
Before my knee surgery, I'd always have to use a shopping cart as a "sort of" walker. I'd go shopping with a friend and he always knew I needed to push the cart for us...and sometimes, need a break (due to pain, not out of breath).
Now with the new Knee, I not only skip the cart, if not needed, I usually park in the farthest park of the parking lot, because I can use any extra exercise I can get...and sometimes, I will walk "all around" the store, once, maybe twice if I have time, just for the exercise. Remember, it's winter in MN, and while walking through snow and ice, through my neighborhood is more of a workout, it's also more of a risk to an old man.

Yes 100% pain and discomfort not tired.

Folks who havent been there only understand a little. We all know pain. But ya get to know that pushing yhings. (Striving to finish. Intestinal fortitude) leads to longer recoveries. So even tho I may "tap out" before things get real bad. I have learned that this allows quicker return to complete task.

Speaking of walking through snow and ice,
My Pre-op Dr appt got canceled this morning. The weather isn't too bad, maybe 30º and sunny this afternoon. I think I'll go to the range and launch some lead, 230grains at a time (.451). I gotta keep trying my 625-8, until I learn to like it. I suspect I'll have to walk through 10" of snow to get to the range, which itself won't have the snow removed from.

Great news Dale! Kind thoughts and prayers for a quick recovery!

When my arthritis was bad I could barely walk at all. My sympathies go out to anyone with mobility issues. As someone said, until you've been there you can't appreciate the pain!

Taking a break from snow removal. I'd guess we have 10" or thereabouts so far. Gordy was sent home sick from work, I think he's just overtired and he eats garbage anyway (junk food) so he's not up to par.

Looks like pork roast for supper!

Well That east coast storm only dropped 5 " of snow here. Then we got 40 mph + south east winds around 3 am lasting until 6 am. Along with that came sleet then freezing rain and plain rain.

Went out side with my wife and she cleared off the cars while I was going to get the snowblower running.....Not!
Gas can was empty! I forgot I used all of it when I was mulching leaves In the late fall. Texted my son ( next door ) His cans were empty also from mulching the leaves....No snow in December so we both forgot to refill them! He got up late and was just having breakfast so he said he would go for gas in about an hour......so I decided to roof rake!
We don't have a steep pitched roof so I always try to get the edge cleared for about 2 feet back , especially if I know the sun may come out.
This way the roof heats up the rest of the snow melt into the gutters and I don't get long icicles forming.
When I got the gas I started the snow blower and tried to do as much of the driveway as possible until I broke a shear pin when I was trying to clear the edge of the road by our mailbox! A goo sized flat rock seized up the left auger blades! Brought it up to the top of the driveway & had a heck of a time trying to dislodge it! Took about 20 minutes . I came inside to get another pin but I decide that was enough for the day ....enough of an adventure for one day.

In the midst of part of my retirement side job, I had to stop while a couple got into their VW sedan and went on their merry way. I noticed that, while the guy was adjusting his seatbelt he was moving the steering wheel, the headlights were moving, too. Oh, boy, instant flashback to when AIM-9 Sidewinders's eyes would eerily follow my movements.

you just had to show those.
i been sizing and checking them for 2 days now, i think i'm gonna run out of gas checks before i finish the last 3-4"s in the bucket, might not even make it through the big coffee can behind the sizer.

i told the boy to go out and get the yard cleaned up when we had those 2 days above freezing last week.
he half assed it like usual.
then yesterday he went to the dollar store up the road and biffed it when leaving, then again when coming home.
he come in boobing and all pissed off.
i told him he should punch the guy in charge of snow right in the nose for doing such a crappy job.

the G-Baby woke up at 4 am cutting teeth.
MOM got no sleep from that point on trying to get her to lay down again.
she kept on saying gampa, gampa, i finally had to go over and hold her for a while then laid her down with a bottle for a nap.
hopefully she went to sleep when i left.

10-12" on the flats, drifts of 3-4 feet here. Cleared it all yesterday and it drifted back in so I'll be back at it today. Got points and condenser for the crawler, that'll be a lot of fun with frozen fingers!

Going ice fishing with a good buddy today. This past Spring and Summer we alternated trips between my area and his, we are about 2 hours apart. Then in early Fall he got a new knee and was forbidden to go in the boat. He's finer than frog's hair now. We were out last week, over here and we walked a couple miles dragging sleds. New knees are a miracle.

Anyway, today we are going out on a big flowage and will be taking my Ranger and lots of gear and I better go put the last of it in the truck. I have not used the Ranger on the ice for at least a couple years as the back waters of the Wisconsin and Mississippi just don't lend themselves to vehicles in most of the secluded spots. Found out yesterday that my chains for my old Ranger won't fit on the new Ranger because of the rear disc brake housing. I wish I'd have figured that out before I smashed my left little finger tip with a channel locks pulling trampoline springs on the sides of the chains as tighteners. I could have saved some of my more colorful verbiage to use in the future.

Then I found out the old studded front tires with all the plugs from Honey Locust thorn holes will no longer hold air. Oh well, we will have fun anyway, we always do.

Roof raking, been there done that. Sure don't miss it. Gave mine away to my Michigan neighbor, along with the Toro snow blower.
