I got the wood lathe- BUT!!!!!!! Everything that could go wrong did! The guy that I was buying it from works in Watertown and wasn't going to be home till after 5PM. No biggie I thinks, Gordy doesn't get done till 5 and I had to cook the pork roast anyway. Matt was going to come help and eat too. At 5:10PM, just as I'm starting the gravy, Gord calls-truck is out of gas at work. I have no gas, so I have to go the other direction and get some. Then 15 miles the other way to his shop. Gassed her up and it started right up. I followed Gordy and noticed he kept going slower and slower and was driving in the middle of the road. Eventually he comes to a stop in the middle of the lane and a half road, on a curve! "It just stopped!", he says. I try to start it- "click-click-click". Broken fan belt, so no alternator, and the battery was low to start with. No idea how long he drove it without the fan/alt or power steering for that matter! Kids gotta learn somehow I guess. I didn't dare get out from behind him as the lights were dead, so called Matt to come help. We were maybe 4 miles from home. Figured I'd charge the battery and park it at our church which was 3/4 miles away. Charged it for 10 minutes, while directing what little traffic there was around the mess. Oh, and it was 13 below zero! Got the truck started and away we go. Got to the church and someone was in the middle of trying to plow it out! DRAT!!! No place to park, so home it is. Just barely got it into the yard. I don't want to think about how hot it got, but there was just no where to park it. Every little farm road I normally could have used had a 3 foot berm of snow blocking it. Went in and scarfed down the now cold pork roast and noodles. Decided to use Cindys Explorer and the trailer. The trailer was buried and the boys muscled it out. I don't know why they didn't use the tractor sitting right there. Couldn't find the plug adapter for the lights that should have been right in the Sxplorer with the hitch, so Matt was going to follow close behind me. Not my favorite way of doing things! I needed to get the straps out of the garage to secure the lathe to the trailer. Had a sudden brainstorm and thought to look in my big box of trailer wiring stuff. BINGO! Brand new adapter in the box! At least I had lights. Got everything hitched up and took off. A mile and half later I realized I didn't have a cent with me!!! Turn around and get my $$$. Got to the guys house just before 8PM, so a good hour and a half after we'd planned. But at least we made it. Then I had to back the little trailer into his drive off a city street that was full of people who were apparently all PO'd at the world. Tiny mirrors, narrow drive, not much light to see by (that wasn't shining in my eyes), short trailer I couldn't see and irate people honking and gunning their engines like it would help me back up. Fun!

The seller was a real nice guy, very understanding. The lathe is a very nice and complete Walker-Turner from the 50's-early 60's I'd guess. Sits on a bench is grandfather built and came with a big box of parts and tools. It's not as far between centers as I'd hoped, maybe 30" at the most, but it's fine by me. Heavier than a dead horse. I'm happy!

Another snow storm today. I have to work on the truck and the crawler and move more snow. Well, at least I;m not bored!!!

ETA- Tried to find a pic of the lathe. Turns out it likely dates from the 1930s!
Oh my, sounds like our good friend Murphy of Murphy's law fame is in your hip pocket. Glad you got it and yourself home safe and sound.

Mr Murphy and I are bosom buddies! Actually, I rarely tell of the jobs I did that worked out right the first time. Those stories are boring. But the ones where everything falls apart? Those are worth telling for the "Oh crap!" factor!!! ;) I really do have a lot more successes than failures, but those are pretty dull.

Got the fan belt replaced on the F350. There's an idler that seems to turn stiffer than it should and it's got a crack in it anyway, so I ordered one, be here tomorrow. Got the hood of the crawler and repaired what I thought was a bad wire. No, it's the brand new last year switch that's bad! It's got one spot where it works and eleventy-seven spots it won't work! More stuff to pick up tomorrow. I also have to find a battery for it. The odd sized one I had is kaput. Gotta be short and not too wide. I'll have to figure what the old battery is, besides useless that is!

*Getting a better deal on ebay on something that you want, but don't really need.
Put the item in your cart, then in a couple days, take it out of your cart, but leave it in the "saved" area.

Three weeks ago, while looking at the Ebay Thailand grips for revolvers (I wanted a pair for a S&W Mod 14). I was also thinking of getting something different for my Dan Wesson Mod 14-2 (357M). With the current crazy pricing of original grips, I'm thinking I'd like something different on the Dan Wesson, because the old original factory grips look pretty good, and I'd just hate to see them get dinged up, as the rest of the gun is mint...Yeah, I am always thinking of the resale. Anyway, there was nothing in Thai-guy's offering for DW. While doing a wider search and not liking most of what I see, I then see a listing for some NOS Packmayr rubber presentation grips for $23 plus shipping. More than I want to pay, but is likely a good deal at that price...since they don't make 'em anymore. I put it in my cart. A few days later I take it out of my cart, as I was gonna buy something else, and didn't want to buy it yet. fast forward to TODAY, I get a email offer to sell me the NOS Packmayrs for $17. That was sweet, I clicked, buy it now !

Put together my Snow Joe cordless snow shovel. Basically just fitting together the three-piece handle and putting a couple of bolts through to hold the pieces together. Got the charger plugged into the wall and the battery plugged into the charger, looks like it is charging normally. Weather turning bad so I might get to test it out soon.

In to my Studio today for a Highlights for Children - High 5 Photoshoot..... May & June of 2022 issues.
I can tell I'm getting too old to be on a concrete floor all day and going up and down ladders and carrying heavy backgrounds.
Bedtime will come early tonight!

Color me impressed again!!!

So I tore apart (actual 60-70) got 50 good cases.

Powder was damp, primers crusty. Dumped both. Did recover 85g BTHP bullets.

I fully prepped all brass. Last was annealing and then a wash.

I used HOT, HOT water W/1/2 tsp lemi shine and two squirts of hand soap.

Agitated 2-3 min let sit for ten minutes.

WOW WOW WOW WOW!!!

All blk smudges whipe off with fingers.

Its drying now on furnace.

Went to Home Depot and bought eye screws, galvanized wire, and some of that green plastic ribbon that nurseries use to tie plants to stakes, etc., and started tying/training the 20-plus year old wisteria to the new fence. We trim/prune it in February, but this month's Summer-like weather has it budding already. Should finish it tomorrow.

Had a contest to see what something said load me or what something said cast me. Lee's 358-158 RF and
13.5-grains of 2400 were the winners.

The downsizing project sure made for Mother Hubbard shelves. All the jacketed bullets are gone, as are two rifles in two calibers and all their reloading accessories, two handguns, and a lot of other stuff. Thanks to all the members who bought stuff!!

Now, I need to go to the 20-miles-distant chain gun store to see what they'll offer for the Swede and the Blackhawk.

Yeah. Meanwhile I ordered another ten-pack of full-extension drawer slides, pulls, and will head to the lumber yard this weekend to pay triple the normal price for several sheets of plywood to build another drawer bank to store crap in my gun room. Somewhere in the middle of all that I'm going to drag another 42-gun safe into the Empire of Treasure because I'm just out of room plus about eight long guns.

Does not the buying and selling, or the selling and buying never end?

I've already bought the Forster .223 seating die, Sierra .224" 69-grain bullets have been ordered, have another
.30-'06 full length sizing die itch, a .44 steel sizer die had been obtained (thank you JustJIm) and am thinking of selling the 429421 that I have to beagle to get fat enough bullets and buying Arsenal's version. But, now that I have a .433" sizer die that is not ovoid and doesn't spread lube all over the bullets (thank you Brad) I may just fiddle with enlarging the drive band.

Temps dropped like a rock overnight! Winter is back. Had highs in the low 30's yesterday. Took the opportunity to thaw out the frozen water line in the barn for the ducks and geese. They refuse to come into the barn and they are a pain to water 5 gallons at a time. Plus I already busted one water pan breaking the ice out of it. All they want is a a little puddle 8" across with some clear water in it and they are happy. So I will have to get some more pipe insulation and a heat tape. It's far easier for me to use that faucet that is 10 or 15 steps from the twin burner propane stove where I heat water for the goats than to walk 2- 5 gallon buckets the entire length of the barn too. I have to leave the water trickling in the barn regardless, might as well get dual use out of it.

Got the David Brown 990 started. It had been in front of the garage with the PTO genset since the power died a while back. Tried driving it out of the snow. Waste of effort. The tires were sitting on glare ice and it's on a slight uphill grade. Got the crawler and she pulled it right out. Decided to put the chains on it. Found out I lost one hook off one side that hooks the ends together on the inside and the flat doohicky that holds the cam lock on the other side! I tried hooking them up using some Rube Goldberg stuff, but the chains are already way out of line after just driving it into a parking spot. More parts to pick up in town!

OTOH- I got done with chores last night a bit after 5PM. It was still light out!!! The earth may yet warm again, and spring may make a return!!! ;)

There were four does. They were eating the Halloween decorative pumpkins, I put out back last week. After approaching with caution.

Red Shouldered Hawk is still hanging around.

Appears he's watching the feeders but birds are not their preferred diet. They prefer small rodents. Evidenced by the Blue Jay (upper right) perched about eight feet above the hawk in the next picture.

Staying warm, 24F when I got up @ 8:30, 36F now. No sense getting up earlier. Her sis called this morning from Fl., said she thought she'd go back to bed after taking the dog out. Cold there too. Practiced playing bass while she went out to exercise club, it annoys her. Got to keep the fingers working

Same here as Bret: Temps dropped like a rock! Tomorrow Our Low is supposed to be 4 - 8 degs! Had rain before it got cold overnight last night and
The snow has a good crust of Ice on it!

We didn't get the rain Jim. But he snow softened just enough to stiffen things up. Supposed to be 22 below here tonite. It might get that cold, but I bet it'll be more like -15 or -18.

When I bought my F350 5 or 6 years ago it had a squeaky belt. When I put the new belt on it yesterday, it still squeaked. After I put the new idler on- no squeak!!! Cool! And the radio has decided to start working again too! That one stumps me- the radio will work for a while, then just stop working. If I unhook the power to it, or if the battery gets super low like it did the other night, it'll start working again. Got me, it's a mystery.

Went to my buddy Jim's home today. We had a good time just putz'n around. Showed him how I make salsa verde, and we made a pint and a half.. He had made menudo for lunch that was so spicy I'm gonna hate him in the mornin'. Then I gave him another lesson in tying streamer flies for white bass and we each made a couple. Then we filled our new reels and spare spools for our upcoming trip to Gulf Shores, Alabama. 5 degrees outside but nice indoors and we spent 5 solid hours having fun.

Wrestled with the wisteria, again. My wife stopped her yard work, looked at what I was doing and it didn't take her but a fraction of a nano-second to tell me that half of what I did yesterday was wrong. After two hours of following her directions I have to admit her idea was better.
