Interesting story, Al. I had heard of Willie Boy, probably from hearing about the movie.
Cool that you have some historic guns that were involved.

The film as history stinks, but it featured some high-line actors of the day (Blake, Katherine Ross, Robert Redford) largely because its twisted plot line appealed to the Hollywood elite. I recall from one of the 1969-era ads for the film--"Willie was a bad Indian--the white man said so....." Yeah, right. I saw the film at age 14 (in 1969, in the theater) and knew from family and area history that the film's viewpoint was sappy nonsense. There was a clash of cultures over the incident, some hints of that still remain today. Willie was Paiute, Mike and Lolita were Chemehuevi. Marriage by capture was de rigeur by Paiute standards; by their lights, Mike the father was outta line for interfering. Chemehuevi and Anglo thinking differed, markedly. But Chemehuevis did not want white law to decide the issues, it was a matter for the involved families to work out. Right from the git-go, the makings for a cluster-BLANK were lined up and ready, and did not disappoint in those respects.

We know whose law held sway in 1909. Lawton's book goes into the local and national politics that influenced the flow of events during this chase of some 500 miles over several days. A lot of people's agendas, ideas, and dreams went south as a result of this occurrence. The book is well done, and presents a historian's viewpoint of the dying gasps of the Western Myth just as the modern condition of Southern California was taking its first breaths.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
"Willie boy" was a bad movie. Just bad. When even Katherine Ross eye candy can't save a movie, that tells you something. OTOH, I watched the new version of "Ben Hur" the other night. Pretty darn good! Lacks the 1950's overacting of the Hesston version, and the ultra vivid technicolor which was so powerful is even came through on black and white TV's! Nothing new in Hollywoods versions of "fact" being a lot different than actual fact. But that's part of what makes some of it fun to watch.

Icy here, must have gotten just cold enough last night to freeze everything that was melted yesterday. Supposed to get that "wind-mageddon" tonight. We've had 35 and 40mph sustained winds here pretty much every year and gusts well over 70 are nothing new. Wish my home weather station was still working. That little anemometer (?wind speed thingy) used to record some interesting gusts, and it was partially shielded by a lilac bush out of necessity.

Everyone goes back to school tomorrow. Hurting my back cost me a couple days of good help. Oh well, if it hasn't gotten done in 25 years, it probably can wait.

Getting ready for breakfast, then a short rest, then we move snow. A good hour will be required to get the snow off vehicle,ps, the drive, and front steps. We are about out of places to put this snow as the previous piles have not melted.

Well we got 2-3" fresh white stuff this mornin. The roads had melted off and even the dirt roads had mostly dried out. At least it's falling straight down and not sideways.
I finally got the broken motor mount bolts out and new ones locktited in yesterday morning. It's amazing what one can accomplish in the daylight after struggling every evening with a flashlight. Glad that's done. Have a great Sunday, guys!

We got around 6 inches of global warming overnight. It drifted a bit so it's difficult to make a really accurate guess. We're going to let it warm up a bit more, then hit the shovels again.

When he says “warm up” he means go from -10° windchill to 0° windchill.
We are heading out in a few minutes. Damn do we know how to have fun.

43 and sunshine now , 65 yesterday but windy . Must have gusted about 30 mph ..... Supposed to cloud up some tomorrow and be raining Tuesday or Wednesday again .

Found a new home for a set of Lee 357 dies . That gets me down to the last carbide and a steel set ...... Why do we gather up so many duplicates ? Oh right because no brass left behind ... I remember now .

Had a hard day yesterday . The lymphoma dog did her best to cheer me up as I fussed about with too many memories in hand all at one time .
I have a little step in the 7×57 barrel I put on the 1916 DWM ........ I have a 257 Roberts barrel fitted for it too . Dad always wanted a 257 Roberts and I'd intended to "gift loan" it to him .......I got the notification that the reamer was available about 3 weeks after he passed away .........
So I got out the 7×57 stuff ..... He'd bought me a bunch of FN 49 Belgian made Argentinian in stripper clips . I'd tried to shoot a few but the hang fires in 3/3 put me off in another rifle so I figured I'd just pull a few ...... The first 2 made fine dummies . Really FN in 49' loading Berdan primed brass ?
The dies were the old Lyman American set in the black box and a Lee sizer extra , no clue where that came from probably the same place as the 38 Special dies . He had bought those when I got the first 7×57 about 1974-5 ..... We had work loads in my teens ......... Then the lumpy dog with her hair all falling out and that sore chewed on her foot reminded me it's almost time for her to go too . At least I didn't have an ND hang fire through the roof . We don't deserve dogs .

Just got in from helping the neighbors do their drive. He has been under the weather all week and she was going to take forever shoveling.
We try to be good neighbors.

I won’t rest until his entire family is gone. That little guy has caused me nothing but trouble.

Our official total was 5 inches. I was okay with it until a city snowplow went by and sealed our driveway shut with a nice 3 ft high windrow. It took two of us shoveling most of the afternoon to clear the driveway and the mailbox approach. I ended up cheating a bit at the end and running my Explorer down the street really close to the curb a few times to break up the larger chunks of ice so we could shovel. I was not amused, not at all...

Dude, get a snowblower already. The gas motor on mine doesn’t get a sore back or risk a heart attack.

I have a 763 bobcat with 60" smooth bucket here that needs an engine and wheels. Got tires for it. With a set of tire tracks it would do a number on a 3' snow bank in about ten seconds.

Rub it in, just rub it in.
I don’t have a place to store a Bobcat. Don’t know how to drive one. Would be dangerous with one.
Would it be handy as hell? Absolutely, but it just isn’t practical.
