He "only" has a three car attached garage now, this is as he calls it for "overflow". He won't ever cast up there, can't convince him to even run 220v electric, says he wants no part of a "shop".

Just a garage for overflow. One of the vans sits outside and is subject to hail damage. Will also store the side by side ATV and it's two plows (snow & agricultural), as well. Cindy might store her Colorado pickup and kayak, instead of the aforementioned van. Her choice.

Rick would like me to turn it into a shop...............but my shop is in the basement or the 3 1/2 car main garage. I cast outside..............under the rear porch or in front of the main garage.

Currently, the main garage is holding a full size van, Cindy's Colorado, my Chevelle and the side by side. Workable but tight.

John, what Rick is trying to say is that he needs a shop and you need to provide 220 V for his needs.

No such thing as too much garage space.

Na, Rick would love to have a shop but not if I have to drive back & forth to it. Been trying to build a second garage here but something always seems to come up and whatever the something is of course comes right out of the garage fund. Last year it was attempting to give my dentist the life style to which he would love to become accustomed to. This month a years property insurance, a years auto insurance, paid off the dentist and a few other yearly things that come due in March, all of course right out of the garage fund. Now I'm looking into buying the property adjoining mine. Who needs a stinkin shop anyways. I tell ya it's my parents fault, I was supposed to be born rich and they failed me.

Rick thinks I need 220V because my Promelt use it, as does my air compressor. Both of which are staying in the main garage. That's where my roll around tool box resides. Any automotive work gets done in there.

Rick thinks ya need 220v because the electrician told me that during construction it costs the same to run 220v or 110v. If it costs the same why not? If ya never need/use it so what, it cost ya nothing. If however on down the road things change and ya need it there it is waiting for you. Been my experience that the only thing that never changes is that everything always changes.

Why go all the way to a detached garage to cast when you can just open a door and be right there?
Rick has delusions.

And automotive work? That happens in a garage 2 miles from me where I pay the guy.

Rick never said he should cast in the new garage but there is far more that can be done besides casting.
