Popped the 1-4 Luepold off the '06 Savage after checking it through a collimator(sp).... Weaver tipoff mounts.

Then put on one of those really crummy 4-12 package scopes that I think are breading over in the scope pile? They come on R700's,and they're multiplying.Depending on your viewpoint(ha),you could be grinning or considering how much $$$,they AIN'T,you could be a little ticked off at how accurate these POS click values are. Bore sighted it,shot one... calc'd the dial in,1/2 min up,and 3 min left. And never touched it again.

Ran through a box of 20 like the wife eating M&M's. Nice bruises on my shoulder. This 175g load will get some serious attention on both ends, haha.

Did the Veterans Day Observance yesterday. It was windy and cold enough, with snow of course, that ony 1 person besides my self and my kids and the Town Supervisor and his wife showed up. They were calling for 10" of snow, looks like we got maybe 6" with drifts well over a 2 feet. Supposed to drop to 8 above tonight. Gonna be a fun day.

Got all the sheep eletro net fence collected and in the barn. At least we got that done.

Woke up to 16 degrees, this AM. Not suppose to hit the freezing mark. :sigh: Well at least it's suppose to be sunny. With the snow on the ground and the full moon out, it's like broad daylight outside.

Spent a long weekend out of town. Wife went to a quilt show and took a craft class with her girl friends, I spent both Saturday and Sunday helping a good good friend straighten out some bullet casting issues he was having.
So the wood stove has been off since Friday, and now it's Tuesday morning, 5 degrees out and the outside chimney is cold so when I open the damper cold air flows into the house. I won't be able to light up a fire until I can get the chimney to draw. So I grab a propane torch to heat the flue. Or I would if the two torches weren't out in a shed yet. Did I mention it is 5 degrees? So I go get a torch, but it is too cold to light.
At least my flock of birds are happy we are back. The blue jays have cleaned up the double batch of raw in the shell peanuts I gave hem as a peace offering.
I think once I get the stove going I'll head to the loading room and throw together some .33 Winchesters with Accurate Moulds 200 grain bullets and mount the Lyman tang sight on that 86.

As soon as the coffe is done and I can fill up my insulated mug I will go out to the current shop (our garage) and finish up the installation of our backup air compressor. It's a V-twin 60 gallon upright type. Went out yesterday to find 0 air pressure, breaker had popped. Took off belt and reset breaker, motor OK, compressor seized up. Took off heads, cleaned dried up/flaking gasket material off valve plates. Pistons frozen in jugs, I think it is some gunk from gasket sealer used in previous repairs. Nuts.

Well, we do have a backup unit sitting 10 feet away, long story there but to carry on - I unbolted old unit from floor, unhooked wires and hose, and used comealong hooked to overhead beam to lift unit up off bolts, spin a little to clear them, and sit unit back on floor. Wrestled old unit out of corner, wrestled new unit in place. Of course bolt holes in wrong place but with new hammer drill it only took a couple minutes to drill 1/2" holes in floor and set in some Redhead floor anchors. Bolted down unit, hooked up wires and hose.

Need to fill up compressor with oil, apprentice getting some on way in. The pulley on electric motor needs to be reversed so it will line up properly with pulley on compressor but that shouldn't take much work, it's just a set screw bearing on a key. Then put on belt and tension it and do final check. Keeping fingers crossed that new unit works.

I checked the compressor manufacturer's site and I think if price is right I'll just buy new compressor.

Lot's of work with that compressor for a very short time until the move. I guess ya gotta keep the current shop running until then though. Pretty poor timing with the old compressor.

NC mills and lathes must have air.

14* at 8:00 AM when Mrs. and I hauled the trash out to the road (trash day). Went out to the wood pile and grabbed a couple of logs to get a fire restarted in the fireplace.

Mom took Tasha the puppy out for her second potty trip of the morning. She says Tasha loves this weather and had no desire to return to the house. I'm not minding the cold at all, although it does intensify my arthritis, making my fingers lock up at the knuckles more often.

Was going to ask you Bret how your invocation(think that's right) went?

It was a short 4 paragraph deal. No one threw any rocks, so I guess it was okay.

Keith, FWIW, air compressors seem to be one area where the prices for decent ones aren't out of this world. I think about 90% of them come from China/India these days.

But Smokey . . . You didn't mention your wasp problem. :headscratch:

Speaking of fireplace wood, how much did you inherit with the house? Nothing will burn up firewood like a fireplace.

Cold front hit yesterday afternoon about 1 o'clock.
Wind blowing 30 to 40 mph. Wow, what a front. Rain blowing horizontal to the ground.
Low this morning was 23 degrees.
I know a lot of you have colder temps than this, bit we don't usually have this till January.
Wife is really sick and in a lot of pain. Some sort of digestive problem. Tried to get her to call an ambulance, but no, she's as stubborn as they come.
She had a tubular pregnancy that ruptured in the 80's. Surgery to fix it and probably has adhesions that case her grief.
Sitting in the Dr. Office right now, waiting on her to come out. Hope it's nothing serious.
We ain't spring chickens anymore!

25 here this morning, 1/2" of ice on everything except the roads. That WAS one hell of a blow last night, I got loose tin scattered across the whole back yard and two ladders blew off the roof. A pile of 2x4 scraps wasn't enough to keep the tin weighed down.

I'd rather have old iron when it comes to V-twin compressors, the newer stuff is ok but heaven help you if you need a set of rings or something in five years, compressor manufacturers change suppliers like we change underwear. Our "new" compressor is a six-year-old IR unit and IR doesn't offer any parts for it anymore. They sold to Volvo and then promptly sold to Doosan, have to get NOS/obsolete parts from a Doosan dealer now, and not much there. We rebuilt our ancient Sullair unit last year and put it back on the line, it runs circles around the IR anyway.

Finished AC install, it appears to be working properly so that's good. Waiting for a callback from compressor manufacturer to buy replacement for old unit. Apprentice came in and helped finish job but was hurting so bad from gout that I sent him home. Going to straighten up shop/put up tools and try to get production back on track. Smokey hit it, NC machines are useless w/o air.

Supposed to get eye injection the afternoon but Drs office called, we had ice and snow and they had already gotten so many cancellations from mostly elderly patients that they closed down office for day. I don't mind not getting poked in the eyeball!

if the compressor is shot,,, strip it down and keep the tank.
put the tank on the other end of the line so you have a big reserve of air.
compressed air volume is a god send.

guess i'll bring all the hunting stuff in from the truck, except maybe the muck boots.
those come in handy when I find myself going somewhere and only have on tennis shoes.

fiver, the tank (60 gal) is fine, and the motor (3.5hp) and controls are all new within last year. We need both compressors in new shop, we will have one on either side to service the machines along each wall. All I need is a new compressor, the old one is rated at 12.0 CFM at 140 psi.

My BIL has a large upright tank that he wants to get rid of, we may use it as a reserve tank on the side of the shop where we will use air tools.

Hawk, sure hope your Mrs.' difficulties turn out to be minor. When we get older our bodies sure don't recover as fast as when we were younger.

Rick, wasp problem? No bug problems anymore. There's a pile of 150 or so, Asian Lady Beetles on the deck near the living room door. 60% of the deck is one solid sheet of ice.
Wood pile was maybe 1/4 of a cord. We've used not quite 10% of that. I'm thinking once we do some serious prowling around the acreage, we'll find quite a few dead-falls that can be cut up and hauled back to the house (reminds me, buy new chainsaw). There are 2 or 3 dead-falls within 20 yards of the wood pile. Thinking about building a wood shed on the other side of the driveway between the garden and the septic tank access hatches.

Going to end up having to buy an air compressor for the shop here. Left the old one back in... that place. It was a too small 30 or 40 year old Harbor Freight unit that seized up about 12 years ago.
Keith, sure like what you're doing with the new shop.

Smokey, do you have any experience with a chainsaw?

You should have a fair amount of downed oak on the 14 acres unless of course the previous owner kept it cleared out. Given his ago though probably not.

Oak is all I put in my fireplace, no soft wood at all.
