Today is the Navy wide Advancement Exam for E7. You have to pass the test to be able submit a package to the board for selection. Then be chosen by the board. I have taken the test three times. Made board twice but not selected. I have been an E6 now for 6 years. I need to make Cheif soon. My step Grandpa retired as a Cheif and he turns 100 this year. I want to make Cheif for him before he passes.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
Best of luck to you RC!

Wifes Wrangler died on her at a Walmart an hour away from home after school yesterday. Don't trust the new/used Burb yet, so piled the kids in the F350 and hit the road. Half way there we hit the snow. Got to her and all I get on the Wrangler is a "click" when turning the key, even with jumpers. Starter? Seized belt driven item like the alt? Busted wire? Everything else works, lights, dash, etc. Last time this happened to me it was on an F150 and the A/C pump ( I didn't even know it had A/C!) seized. She's on her way to Vermont today, so the garage will flat bed it. On the way home youngest girl had an anxiety attack. By then the snow is really coming down. I don't see so good at night anymore and neither does my co-pilot IMO, so I had Gordy watching traffic over his Moms shoulder while his sister cried. What a great trip! Picked up the Outlander from the shop where the Jeep will be heading and Gord and I headed home. Hit the hills and the snow stopped! Figures. This AM there's a good inch, inch and half and it's snowing heavily. Got the kids up and did early chores. Come in and was watching for the bus. Girl kid finds out, via that stupid smart phone, that schools delayed 2 hrs. Not a sign of a message, nor was there any ring on the land line phone. What a system. Hope the rest of the day goes better!

Prior to the trip from hell last night I was moving hay. Sounds like I have a bearing going in the final drive on my "big" tractor. Oh joy! Better get the Massey radiator fixed I guess.

Our winter has been pretty mild until recently. Tomorrow we are forecast for “wintry mix”. Snow to start, then rain, then more snow. Proportion of rain to snow depends upon temps in atmosphere. A degree or two either way makes a big difference.
right now we are at 3°

Possible freezing rain, in our forecast for Friday. Yesterday was spring like, filtered sun with highs in the mid 60's and little to no wind. Got some outdoor casting in............was running low on 9 mm bullets. At least, I have sorting, sizing and checking to do, when the weather turns lousy.

First real snow here in SW Oregon.
Woke up to 4"+ of really wet snow this morning.
Some of the flakes are bigger than a quarter.
I am surprised the power is still on.
I filled 2 buckets with water for emergency flushes.
Got the propane lantern out....dale

All that is the reason I put in the standby generator. If the power goes out the generator waits 15 seconds to make sure it's not just a blip, generator starts up & the whole house is good to go. Being on a well without power your right, can't even flush the commode, no heat, no fridge or freezer, no nuttin. Couple of years before I moved in here there was an ice storm that had the power out for two weeks. There is a chance of ice & sleet forecast for tomorrow morning, just had the propane tank topped of two days ago just in case.

Going to go over to new shop at 10am to wait for the technician who will install our land line phone and internet connection. I've had a Consumer Cellular flip phone for several years, bought it when I was selling my father's house and didn't want to use my regular number. I'm going to have that number transferred to the business line and then I'll give the flip phone to the local womens shelter. They give them to their ladies in case they need to do the 911 thing.

We loaded a bunch of stuff in my van yesterday, we'll unload it while we wait. then we will start leveling machines. The first up are the two CNC machines, they don't get anchored to floor so once they are leveled up it's just a matter of hooking up the power and they are ready to go. Need to order the epoxy anchoring compound, all thread rod, and other hardware for the manual lathe and mill. Probably start on them next week.

If I can hire a couple students for Saturday we can probably get all the trash cleared out of garage, the steel storage racks cleared off and moved, and maybe get some of the raw material moved too. We'll see.

Good luck testing !

Got a Sr and Master Chief in the family . Even 15&18 yr ret they are accorded due respect . I guess 21 and 25 yr has that effect though .
I don't know how many times my BIL took it but my SIL went 3 times and was boarded twice , declined the first time . It was something about region , station , marriage and available slots the first time with a time limit after testing ........ She was one of the lucky ones that was all set to clear her desk , show up cake , collect her leave balance take a 6 week vacation and start her civi job but was retained by 9/11 . Her exit date was to be 9/17 they kept her a yr giving her 21 yr 363 days in service . After many discussions up and down the chain she opted to take a "terminal leave" which gave her an additional 186 days after some manipulation of leave , medical , tdy nowhere , etc . She retired with a retirement pay rate at 25 yr . She lost the vacation plan but the civi employer convenced the guy she was replacing to stay on another 6 months , held her job and put her on payroll with all the benefits at half pay to train Saturdays until she was released from service from her start date .

Have faith !

Took the WI FI out at work and went hard wired with a daily use password for security, reasons. So I will not be able to check up on things during my breaks, now. Will have to wait till this time of day when I get out of bed on my work days.(do 4 12's then 3 ect. 5 pm to 5 am)
So If anyone needs me to respond, might have to wait a day or so before I get back.
Kind of a good thing in a way, the shift supervisor can no longer waist my time asking me to google things for him. And I will actually get to sit and enjoy my lunch, plus will not have to watch out for iphone zombies so much. (What I call people walking around, in a daze, with their phones stuck in their face.)
Other than that, got a new C pap set up, my old one was no longer working right. It was 15 years old. Parts were no longer available
. Wanted to sleep all the time. Feeling much better using the new machine.

the wind has been blowing about 20mph since yesterday afternoon.
all the snow we moved the other day is back where we took it from, only it's not smooth and flat anymore.
I'm guessing we have a pretty big storm coming in the way it's been blowing.

The predicted rain for today has not shown up yet. Earlier this week the news^&$#s were forecasting mountain snows of great depth and rainfall at lower elevations of Biblical proportions. Epic fail, so far. There might be .10" to .15" overnight, but I dunno. Looks pretty clear right now (2 P.M.).

The 3/4" of scheduled rain arrived on schedule and in the scheduled amount. Water vapor loop and radar indicate, perhaps, a bit more.
