Well got the shooting tent/shed moved, blocked up, leveled and a summertime tarp cover.

image.jpeg

I will have to move it out of the way of the tree removal and stumps being removed along with the dirt work. Then the shed can be set back to increase from an 85 yard range to a full 100 yards.

image.jpeg

If you site down the tents ridge you see a birch tree. Actually there are 4 trees that block the target area that I will have to remove. Tomorrow I will cut out a sheet of 1 1/8" plywood for the top of the bench. Not sure how tall to make the bench, with the top on it will be 37". I need either a taller chair or to trim the legs. Coming along though..

Great deal. Looks like you will be shooting in comfort before to long.
Next thing you know we will be seeing a solar panel off to the side and a refrigerator for cold snacks. :p
Seriously, I think that is a great use of resources. Looking forward to more updates.

John I'd put my gun holder stuff on the bench before I went cutting anything.
nothing worse than being all hunched over to shoot.

Hey Emmett.
I got some H-110 load details for the 30-06.
you probably want to use a crimp with the slick side bullets but 19-20grs. will work just fine.
drop to 18 if your gonna bird seed [don't bird seed fill them the powder will just mix in]

I guess Littlegirl is coming over this afternoon.
we are gonna dig through the shed for my single burner turkey cooker/smelter and table top gas grill and see if they still work.
I guess we should look for the water cooler too while were out there.
I need to put new line on a couple of reels out in the boat but I'm leaning to just switching out the 2 K-Mart blue light special rods and reels, plus the jimmied 2 different poles pole, out for some sportsman warehouse closeout special stuff I have in the house with the 11$ price tag still hanging on them.
I will have to use a reel of 5$ Wal-Mart [< dang,, auto corrected itself to capitol letters] line to fill them.

No worries there, it's only 30 feet to the plug, frigid is in the shop right there. Have to pass it to get to my gun room.
The solar panels are going on my tower for a whole house grid tie set up.

Well I've been smelting down a bunch of lead I suspected of been pure soft lead and it turned out to be 123 pounds of pure and about 40 pounds of 8 BHN lead. Took a few mornings to get done, but, it's done.
I have about 1600 pounds to go through, which I believe is mostly harder lead. About half were COWW mixed with unknown lead. I mixed anything I could get my hands on for ballist for vessels.

Well yesterday, I got done checking traps and getting a pipe unplugged, got home at 3. Told the wife I was going to the river( Mississippi ) and would be late
. Asked if she wanted to go, would the skeeters be bad, yep, not going, bye.
Got to the river by 4, just drift with the current, casting plugs until about 6, then anchored in one of my favorite eddies. Caught about a dozen Smallies casting, just took pictures of the two biggest for Lamar. Threw them all back.

started dragging crawlers through the Eddie and caught mixture of Redhoarse, Black Suckers, Smallmouth, Walleye, and Catfish. There weren’t any Catfish this far up the Mississippi until five years ago , when the DNR claimed the flooding around Aitkin, Mn allowed them to get this far up. The DNR closed this section off for keeping any Muskies about the same time. I find it odd they are all about the same size.
Anyway, fished until 11, caught over 40 fish, took 5 Catfish and 4 Walleyes home. Good time.

Today I mowed the yard for the first time. Wife and I went to town to get paint for her shop floor, dog food, and ordered Chinese take out.

My wife packed a lunch and gathered up her sketching and water coloring kit, and I my Kindle reader and Duke, and we drove to the county park which is also host to the range and world famous race track. Sunny and 76, the only sounds coming from a few redwing blackbirds, the cooling breeze rustling the wisteria and some kind of non-native, small leaf maple trees, and intermittent shooting from the police range. (The public range remains closed.) Put another way, relaxing, peaceful and calming day.

The campgrounds are closed, too, but there were four or five sites that were occupied. Hmmm . . . Inquired of the volunteer ranger and she said they were camping when the shelter in place order came down*, and they can't leave till the county health dictator decides it's safe to do so.

*Tomorrow starts Week 11 of house arrest.

nice looking smallies there.
they look to be post spawn judging by the brown around the eyes.

we hit almost 80 here today so I got out and got done what I was gonna do.
went over to Littlegirls place with the wife then her work called her in for the rest of the day, so I just hung out on her patio in the shade for a while.
we decided to go to the store for a bit to get a few things for the fishing trip we are heading out for on sunday, then I nabbed a nice boneless pork roast and some sweet potatoes for dinner.
I come back to the house to get a little water on the back yard and seen a couple of nice summer squash in the green house so I picked them and took them over with me.

I've never had/grown these type before.

but they weren't half bad, I hope I get some more.

I love it when they come on and the early boy tomatoes are ripe at the same time. I just fry them in a little butter with tomato and a little caramelized onion.
You are making me want to start a garden again.

Patty-pan squash, my favorite hands down.

Channel catfish? I didn't know those were in the Mississippi anywhere. Good sating there. I've caught a few on spinners before, quite a surprise when you're bass fishing creeks.

this year was supposed to be about learning a bit more about winter squash, but then I seen those seeds and had to give them a go.
I might have started them a little early, since I don't normally put anything out until mid-late June, trying to time things out so I'm not getting stuff off the plant while they are still in a pot.
I'm starting to re-think that and might be starting more stuff sooner next year and getting everything in a larger pot right off the bat so I have a much more mature plant going in the ground.

There are so many cats in the Mississippi that they net them commercially by the tons.

isn't that what tom and huck were always fishing for?
maybe not channel cats, but catfish in general.

speaking of catfish, the power and light company controls almost all of the shoreline around the lake here.
they have been slowly closing access down over the last couple of years and just announced yesterday they was closing everything they owned around the lake.
that's pretty much the whole south side, and pretty much everything by the dam on the west end.
they cited trash as the problem, which is more than hard to believe since nobody [but a few I'm going fishing no matter what types] really goes down and fishes the cold snow melt waters for carp and catfish.
it isn't until about now that fishing even starts in earnest, and the 'good' fishing isn't until July.
by good I mean you catch both carp and catfish.

Today continuing to clean out 40 years of valuable stuff that got placed on the east side of my shop. I have to get a dozer in after I remove the 5 trees that are becoming a problem. Yesterday day I uncovered a Fair booth that I built for selling solar panels and related products. The booth panels were payed down temporarily so I could install a new fuel tank about 20 years ago. I did cover them with 2 blue tarps as I must not have had time to deal with them before winter. Never did the Fair again, so out of sight out of mind. Anyway you could only tell that there was something there because the ground was about 6-8 inches higher. I knew the panels where there, but figured they where trashed after all this time, so no hurry. Now I have to clean that area up, raked the leaves and pine needles and decomposing stuff under the leaves. Filled 2 wheel barrels.
The panels where salvageable to a degree. I'll be able to use the T-111 for my shooting shed sides. Plus under the panels was 3 brand new sheets of 3' x 10' metal roofing, my folding aluminum ATV ramps that I'd though I'd loan out and never came back, continued to remove stuff and besides a few other minor treasures, there is some cable sheath in lead.
Well today I'll continue the archeological excavation. Until it gets hot anyway.

Gonna have to take a nap today, her phone text kept going off. Mowers here early today. Friend was transferred to Baylor GB midweek, surgery was to be 3PM yesterday. Intubated and sedated and rolled into ICU til 8 for surgery (doc had an emergency stroke case). Gal's text service was active till 11, surgery was complete after 12. Couldn't do stent due to calcified vessel so he's there (ICU) for another week til they go in directly (open skull). Angioplasty was from crotch to cranial. He & wife both lost spouses years ago so are close - they tried to kick her out last nite but she stared them down. I'll leave out comments about healthcare these days.
Did load some 170 PB for the BO pistol - need to up the volume a tad, 900 is a little slow. Now out to spray yard for weeds.

462,
Tell your governor to open back up! My youngest son is on a road trip and said Ca. is tough to find a shower. He has been going to Anytime Fitness gymes everywhere along the way because he has a membership. He called late last night and said tough to find one in Ca. because the gymes were all closed. LOL Said he drove all the way to the North end of 101 just to see the border, then turned around and headed south. Has 8k miles on his new Corolla now and seeing the sights. He's going to Vegas just because. Lol Oh to be 25 again!!

Rally,
I wish your son and enjoyable and safe tour. Unless he is on a strict time schedule, tell him to take his time and soak in a lot of what California has to offer.
Forum rules prevent me from commenting on the governor's Chinese flu policy, but it is Week 11 Day 1.
