Ian is 400 miles closer than Walter. I can hit him up for an oil change and brakes while I’m there. My wife can discuss art history with his dad.

No need to head to the left coast. Besides, wquiles and hawk are on the way. And Gary, and a few others.

too hot down there for a summer vacation.
maybe around Christmas or mid January.
Too late in the year. Good chance of snow or ice between me and Dallas. Kansas and Oklahoma are too prone to freezing rain for my pleasure.

Just goofed around in the shop today. Did manage to get a couple boxes of #00 buck loaded. Wife is trying to talk me into fixing some of her junk, but so far I've resisted. I know she'll win, but it's the game we play. LOL Have to wear a mask anywhere out in public now.

Brad doesn't melt when it's 100, and I have both a pistol and rifle range right here at home. Sadly I don't have a guest room for two available at the moment.

Kevin is gonna have that place fixed up so nice he won't want to sell it. ;)

When we bought this house, it was temporary. Until the daughter got out of high school. Things didn’t work out but about 4 years ago we decided it was the right time. Had it on the market a while and kept hearing the same things, no closets, no storage, etc. So we decided to cater to their whims and see if it goes.

We will see!

Chasing my tail trying to get .22 caliber cast bullets to work in .22 Hornet and .222 Remington. Been in the 100+s during the day and windy (welcome to the Palouse) so I got out early. Cool and no breeze. Still no grouping with the Hornet or .222, but this made up for it.

Spent 4 hours yesterday with my friend Jon at his gun club and hour and a half from here to do testing for a future ELR .22 shoot. We shot at randomly placed targets starting with a 1" swinger at 55 yards, a 2" swinger at 101, a 3" at 175, a 4" at 198,a 5" at 237, a 6" at 256, an 8" at 277, and finally a 10" at 307. All of the distances were ranged after the targets were placed. Ultimately, there will be 16 targets total and each shooter will fire 3 shots per target, in groups of 4 targets with 4 shooters firing at a time. The four groups of targets will be painted different colors. You will draw a colored poke chip to determine which group of targets you are shooting and get after it. If you manage a first shot hit you get 3 points with 1 point awarded for each subsequent hit for a total possible score of 80.

We shot prone and boy that's less than fun as you get older. I think I have bruising on my left ribs this morning. I had numbers out to 200 and I did well until I got to the 237 and after that it was guessing and trial and error. We also stuck an 16"x 36" piece of steel at 400 yards and I managed to hit that 3 out of 10. Just for extra fun we had a gusty variable wind that collapsed the umbrella we had shading the shooting mat a couple of times. The range is in a north facing valley in the coulee country near LaCrosse, WI and the winds are, interesting.

I shot what is basically a Kidd Super Grade 10-22 with a Leupold Mark AR Mod-1 6x18 scope with a Mil-Dot reticle and +20 MOA in the base and another +20 MOA in my Burris Signature Zee rings. I am nearly bottomed out with my 50 yard zero, but it is a perfect 50 yard zero and that gives me all of the elevation in the scope to go up. I was able to dial all the way to 400 without having to resort to hold over. I was shooting Eley Target in a yellow box, a lower grade Eley product.

My friend Jon shoots a Federsen barrel on a Ruger 10-22 action with a Vortex 30 m/m scope. I think he has close to + 70 MOA in elevation and he uses a lot of hold under, (9 MOA?) at 50. Jon was using SK Pistol Match Special for ammo. We both have Victor Titan stocks on our rifles. This is a type of shooting and a type of rifle I never envisioned becoming interested in, but, I'm hooked.

Just this moment received an e-mail from Jon. He says his neck and lower back hurt this morning. We may have to shoot this from the benches. Jon and I are in about the best physical shape of the bunch of Geezers we shoot with.

Sadly I don't have a guest room for two available at the moment.

I do my best sleeping outdoors anyway.
I sleep like a baby at the deer lease, looking up at all the stars that you can't see in town and listening to the night sounds of crickets and the occasional coyotes that run by the camp.
That's all after the worlds problems melt away, while watching a good fire burn down to glowing embers.

California's Central Coast Amid The Insanity
Hey, Brad, reckon I didn't think my proposal all the way through, and certainly wouldn't want you to have to pay a California entrance fee like the Dust Bowl Okies had to do, or get thrown in the hoosegow for trying to bring an armory into the state. My first thought was you'd want to get away from that oppressive Summer in the Mid-West heat and humidity, or even the Winter in the Mid-West Arctic blast.

Anyway, never mind.
