L Ross, When my wife fried squirrel she pan fried it golden brown then put it in a small pressure cooker she has for a while.
Even the toughest turned out tender.
Oh yes, absolutely! The tough one's get browned, pressure cooked, and turned into pot pie!
Every kitchen needs a pressure cooker and a pressure canner.

On the road home from the mountains of Colorado. Weather was too hot and dry, but the guys saw some elk. Son in law got a big cow about 6 miles back from the trailhead, not too far from their spike camp. Son had three different bulls as close as 35 yards in the black timber bugling at his cow calls, but never got a clear shot. 13 year old Grandson found out he wasn’t in as good of shape as he thought. Camp was at just under 9k ft, hunting was all up from there. 1st ridge from camp went up 1000 ft in a mile and a half. Thank god for horses

the antler thing is part genetics and part nutrition.
sometimes they damage the antlers while still in velvet so they grow weird.
I have one on the wall here that is a white tail type 3 point typical on one side, and the other is an eye guard like an Elk has about 6" long, with a single 3 1/2-4"" long eye guard [like a Mule deer would have] on the left side.
only that up guard looks like it was split in half with an axe or something.

the one I have mounted is a 3x4 but he only makes a shade over 160, if he'd have split enough to be a 4x4 [like on the other side] he'd have broken 170 easily.
next to him is a 5x5 that maybe makes 135-140, he is 6"s narrower and 3"s shorter in height.
beautiful chocolate brown symmetrical rack, just not enough of it.
anyway.
that one and the 3 point weirdo were both 3 y.o. deer, just taken about 30 miles apart from different gene pools.
over in Grace I got a lot of white antlered 2x3's, but on the other side of the mountain they are more typical and a neutral brown color.
the two don't mix during the rut and the food is different due to the mountain being there creating a 5-7 degree temperature different from one side to the other.

Pick up a couple of Dad's books today its kind of hard yet sometimes to haul a load of stuff out . A box at a time maybe ...... I was going to look for some data for a 1.1 inch 45 , S&W would due but I was thinking Rowland , Mag , or something and load it long . Which has nothing to do with this ......story tellers right ?

What I found in the books was when he sent off for and had repaired Mom's Model 12 78xxx . In 1967/8 . They replaced the Receiver and as a result renumbered the gun which is why I have a 1968 parts bin gun . Crazy can you imagine a hand typed letter from Winchester signed with an actual ball point pen ?
So cool find #127 .

Here's hoping all goes according to plan for your Mrs JW .
Mine just had a hand re-repair , not near the degree but I understand the concerns .

I've determined that I'm too far gone to be loading hay any more .
Hand loaded and off loaded to stacks a ton and a half to hold the tiny goats and water fowl I hope for the winter . 1 leaf off the square bales is as big as the 2 goats .
I'm pleased with myself , 50 bales and I only broke one . Grass hay 2 wire twine .......I am not a farmer . Lost another chicken ......

Half hour after leaving the woods, this AM, this nice six point showed up for his breakfast.

Did take video of a mature doe and a fork horn, that showed up five minutes apart, at the scrape/meeting tree.

We have had a family tragedy.
My blind nephew has inherited some guns he needs to sell and that I would like to purchase.
What do you guys recommend as a good Web site to look up the value of guns?

Today's prices are a bit strange, due to the current circumstances. Certain stuff is difficult to get, backordered and such. I mention this, as I am about to give a recommendation to use Gunbroker for the their "sold" prices, you need to register and login to get that info. But if you look back too far in time (months) prices will not be representative of today.

Yeah, mostly.
Still need to strengthen the muscles, I really notice the weakness on stairs, especially after a long day.

So I actually read the Winchester letters today .
Then did a quick search for a build date of the original SN .
Turns out the original build was 1914 and now its a 1968 empty the parts bins gun it's both the oldest and newest of the Model 12s . Kind of a bummer not knowing how it was shot to death 1914-1966 but very cool knowing where it's been for the last 56 years and that it was among the last of the factory parts factory rebuilds and by comparison almost a new gun .

RB,
An interesting history, for sure, and that it was your father's makes it even more so.

Like Jon, I would normally (and still do) recommend GB. But, as he says, prices are all over the map right now! I have been on GB a lot lately and it is just nuts. Gonna be harder to get an honest (non-panic times) value.

Kevin's thread about a concealed carry gun, for his daughter, and Jon B's. reply, got me to thinking about the local range's handgun shooters.

I've noticed an increase in the number of handgun shooters, since the first of the year, and especially since the range reopened, after the months' long house arrest. While that's all good, particularly in California, several things really stand out.
One, is their age. A great majority of them look to be no older than 25.
Two, is their guns. All of them are black 9 mm semi-autos.
(Apparently, one and two are tied together, and not for any logical reason that I can fathom.)
Three, is their lack of safe gun handling practices, and a seemingly total ignorance of how to remedy a failure to function.

Revolver shooters all seem to be at least 40 years old, and the occasional single-action shooters appear to be in their 60s.

Is it different in other parts of the country, or is it another aspect of modern society that baffles me?

462 that's what I'm seeing as well. We have a advertising internet company up here that has a section for gun sales. Anymore 80% is gas operated guns. When a six gun comes up or a bolt gun with lumber it usually just sits with very little interest. I just got a good deal on a GP 100 that was languishing with very little interest. The guy thru in 1200 once fired brass for it and just tossed in some 45-70 and 45 ACP to help the deal. The brass was unexpected, I was a purchaser without the brass.

Found last year that 6 mi hike above 9k ft is not for us old guys. Sat in docs waiting room for 1 1/2hr, he said I need to push my walking a bit every day. Don't go slow or get a younger dog.

Jon are you able to kneel with pressure on the fake knee? I either have to lay on the ground or bend at the waist to reach anything on the ground.
GB would be my suggestion also.
