dang Allen.
you might not have broken a rib, but falling and skidding on your palm could have separated the cartilage between a pair of them.
that hurts just as bad and seems to take just as long to recover from.

you know you live in a small town when the lady that takes your money for the water/electricity/sewer/ and bonds thereof comments because you paid with a check rather than cash just this one time.
and then a 5 minute conversation ensues about it being a different account, and the new g-baby.
then the Fed-Ex lady get's involved just before the person from the car behind you [you don't know] doesn't get mad about you standing in the driveway but gets out to come join the conversation.

That might be what happened, Lamar. Marie had me try some turning and bending motions last night, and her assessment was that if actual fractures occurred then the pain would have been EXCRUCIATING rather than the "quite uncomfortable" rating I assigned to it. The pain would also be WORSE today than yesterday, and that is not the case. Not my first such rodeo, but it's no more fun at 65 than it was in my 20s and 30s.

That sounds like a really nice place to live, except for the "Winter and August" two-season climate.

Allen, you got a few miserable weeks to look forward to.
I'm on my third week of lowest left rib healing.
More concerning is the dizziness though.
Any idea? Low blood sugar?

Allen, several paragraphs and I still haven't read anything about going to see the sawbones. Shouldn't you? As I recall, you have a continuous monitor on your blood sugar, so I'm assuming that was within normal limits.

That is correct, Smoke. bG was normal for time of day, as were BP and pulse rate. I check these every A.M., and the bG EVERY time I start a vehicle.

I am VERY sensitive to hydration levels, esp. the lack thereof. I have in the past gotten light-headed when I haven't had a large glass of water first thing in the morning, and this was the case yesterday--I was in a hurry to arrive at the restaurant at 10 A.M., and didn't take time to have the water. I guzzled a couple glasses of water while getting the palm patched up, and some more with brunch. "All good" once the H2O was on board, and that has been the case since then. Not my best day. Other than the rib ache, I'm good to go.

Allen,
Glad to read that your episode wasn't worse than what it was, and that you are feeling better.

I had a similar fall, though the cause remains unknown, and re-whip lashed the whip lash from when a lady driving a nine-passenger van ran into me, while I was walking.

I think that, as we age, we become more aware of falling and the consequences, and take extra precautions. I no longer run up and down stairs, and know the ornate handrail is not there for its aesthetic reasons only.

Sounds familiar. We had quite a traffic jam on our road here just a little while back. 2 Amish buggies going in opposite directions stopped to talk, which then resulted in a local farmer stopping and getting out to join the conversation, which resulted in a local Trooper/farmer (my replacement so to speak) stopping to talk to one of the Amish guys and then I came along and wanted to talk to the other farmer. Everything went to snot when the NJ transplant "holistic healer/mid-wife" in her Escalade came around the corner at about 65 and we all scattered before she ran us down!

Caught my neighbor grinding Wheat to flour this morning. Got ~ 10#'s and made a loaf of Whole Wheat Bread. The smells were heavenly and the bread I sampled just a bit ago was fantastic. It's a heavy loaf but texture and taste are spot on. A third of the loaf didn't make it through 15 minutes after birth. Very simple loaf; flour, salt, water, and yeast all popped into a bread machine and 3:40 later done!

Got it Allen! We just found out the other day that, because of Mrs. smokeywolf's diuretic, she was dehydrated and low on potassium. Doc put her on a potassium supplement and told her to start drinking more fluids.

Bought 100 pcs. of 1960 FA Match 30-06 brass the other day(Thank you Kevin)
I ran them for three hours last night in SS pins with a few drops of Dawn dish soap and a 9mm case full of Limishine.
I'm getting ready to set up and anneal them. I'll try to get them FL sized tonight so I can trim, deburr flash holes and square primer pockets tomorrow.

Jeeze! I gained 3 lbs just reading the post and looking at the picture!!!!! They say fresh ground flour makes an enormous difference in flavor and quality of bread. Something I hope to try someday.

Ah, ha, forgot to mention that the Winchester and RP brass, that I bought from Kevin, has been corn cob cleaned and processed exactly as Allen described. Told my wife I was buying it for the son-in-law, but he didn't sound overly excited when I asked if wanted any. Okay, be that way, then. I gave him 50 pieces and kept the rest. Ingrate

(insert winkie and tongue sticking out go here).

Here ya go . . . .

By the way, what's with the new composition page and the absence of those face thingies?

oh...
I wasn't aware we had the type of plumbing that just explodes for no reason.
according to everyone else that lives here, that is apparently a type of plumbing, I just wasn't aware of it even though I have had a journeyman pipe fitters card since about 2003.
cost me a dollar and thirty nine cents for the necessary parts and another 4.50$ in American money to buy some spare parts for later.

then it cost me another 9 dollars for some popsicles and a bucket of ice cream so I can make a malt later tonight since the grocery store is part of the ACE hardware building.

looks like they hired a new guy down to the ACE, he was trying to be helpful when I walked in at the urging of a couple of the other employee's.
he got told NO when he eagerly asked if he could help, and was like 'what a grumpy guy'.
LOL he was then informed I could put stock away if asked to, and didn't need help unless I wanted some paint mixed.

Well, CUSS WORDS......I had some kind of dizzyness yesterday mid-morning while walking from my truck into the restaurant where I meet friends on Tuesday for brunch. No loss of consciousness, I just couldn't stay vertical for some reason. I went down on my right side on the asphalt surface, which has no "give" whatsoever, and skinned my right palm properly and the right knee less severely (thick old Carhartt blue jeans). Either my elbow or my walking cane handle got jammed into my right ribs, and DANG that area hurts like %$#@. An elderly couple arrived a few minutes later, and I asked them to have my old partner come out and help me get vertical again. I talked the husband into NOT calling 9-1-1 until we got a handle on my actual condition. As Eric came outside, I had gotten sat up and the dizzies were gone. He helped me up, and we took inventory--all systems seemed to be "GO", so we got the leak stopped in the right palm and headed into the restaurant to chow down.

That consumed about 90 minutes, then we got going. Standing up, no dizzies--but DANG those ribs were aching. I got into the truck OK, drove home, and the ribs were REALLY talking to me. I downed a couple Extra-Strength Tylenol, and laid down for a couple hours. I got up about 3 P.M., and the Tylenol took the edge off of the pain a bit, but it still hurt to cough, sneeze, or have hiccups. Another 2-hour nap from 8 P.M. to 10 P.M., then up for about 3 hours.

More Tylenol at bedtime, and I did sleep through the night. The phone woke me up at 7:45 A.M., ^%&*ing robo-callers. I gotta keep the phone on for family. Ribs still hurt like h--l, as above. Waiting for the Tylenol to kick in. Handgunning is OUT for a few days, esp. with anything that kicks. I have a varmint hunt toward the end of the month, I hope the hand heals enough by then to allow riflery.
But, but, but, what was wrong, what caused you to fall? Jeez louise, what are you messing around with? Go get checked out!

Perfect!

He shoots as many .30-'06 rounds in a year as I do in one range session. Plus, all his existing '06 brass came from me, anyway. I left all the prepping for him to do. Har, har, hardy, har, har!
