39 Ian? You must be freezing your butt off.
We had a freeze overnight, pretty early for that. Will be mid to upper 50s for the week as a high, mid 30s for lows.

Loooking like a rude awakening that Mother Nature is in charge,

39? welcome to our high for the day.
I had to put a flannel shirt on when I went out hunting this afternoon.

one of these days someone ain't gonna follow me into a spot no one but me has bunted for years, and then tell all his buddy's and mother in law who is the church gossip about it.
hope they had a nice walk, and found out how tangled and overgrown it is up there.

oh well, I wandered over to an area I have hunted before that looks like a Bitch to get into but if you know the spot to go up it's a pretty easy walk across the bottom.
seen another couple of groups of Does right before dark and wandered back to the truck.
one of these days I might see something with antlers not standing behind a no trespassing sign, or not [shrug]

Sounds like Austin and I love that area. Heaven on earth. But what do I know living on the gulf coast in total misery 10 months a year.

I avoid Austin like the plague, it's like a cross between San Fransisco and Seattle. I'm a couple hours west of there, which is barely far enough.

Today was heavy undershirt, uniform shirt, and medium jacket. It wasnt enough, had to fire up the heater under my desk. You know how chihuahuas shiver if it's below 80? That's me. I miss summer already.

Understand, couple of hours west of Austin is even better. The wife's family were pioneers west of Austin. 39 degf sounds like the panhandle but that is way north. Nice to talk to another Texas resident. So big that we can all have different weather and not be in another country. Half of Europe would fit in Texas.

45 and sunny today, better than 45 and raining the last two days.

Eyes finally started tracking (no tilt or double vision) about 11:30 tonight. FAR better.
This binocular vision thing is pretty cool, a person could get used to it. Should be
much better in the AM.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
Miserable here yesterday- 45ish, windy and wet. Got real bad around dusk and it was blowing right though the house all night long, windows vibrating and what not. This old house stinks in the wind. I've apparently lost one basement window, not be found anywhere.

I ended up sharpening that saw I talked about myself. Got looking at the chain and Gordy must have really rocked it. I tried a file and it just skated off the tooth. Got out the little cheapy chain grinder and cut the worst of it off and put a good finish on with a file. Nice to have tools that make a hard job easier.

Speaking of tools, ever buy the new improved version of something and like the old one better? My first powder scale was a Redding with no dampening system. A few years back I got an RCBS with the magnetic dampening. For the life of me, I can't get used to it. It will swing once and it's done. I end up making it move several times and I almost always get a different reading for each attempt. Just can't get used to it.

I loaded up more cartridges for the 6.5x257 Roberts Arisaka. 85 (IIRC) Sierra HP's, jacketed jobs from a brief flirtation with trying to make a 6.5x55 into a varmint rifle many years ago. They work for fire forming and figuring out that I'm as good as blind unless I have decent light. The rifle seems to like them anyway, near as I can tell.

I picked up a few holsters over the summer and had a few minutes to dig out my stash of handguns and try them for fit. I have to admit it, just looking down a barrel in the house I can see my days with my beloved 4 inchers are about done. My 6" K32 and K22 are far easier for me to sight. I'm going to have to go to the eye docs for some glasses, but I really don't see what he can do. I HAVE to get some prescription readers, the dollar store jobs are fine for the rough stuff in the garage, but not for real precision work. I wouldn't even know where to start to ask for something at the end of my arm. I might try a Merit Disc, although they run about $80.00 now, if you can find one.

Bill, glad to hear things are going okay. I'd be scared to death having someone mess with my eyes.

We've had Temps in the 40s for two days and 7 inches of rain since last Friday.
21" of rain since Sept. 1. That's a lot for us!

5" of rain over 3 days plus whatever fell last night and over those 3 days we dropped from low 80s to mid 50s . 41 outside as I type .

Bret, you can make a very serviceable pinhole device with a bit of thin aluminum sheet. Drill it clamped
between two pieces of thin hardwood to keep the edges sharp. A 1/16" should help you a lot. Figuring
out how to attach it to glasses is the trick, but you can work up something. Worst case, tape it to safety
glasses and give it a try. Helps a LOT. I use the no longer available Lyman Hawkeye plastic version. I
had lots of folks ask me at the range what the funny thing was stuck on my glasses. I let them try it, if
they were over 50, and they all asked how to get one. After a bunch of that I bought 10 of them and
kept them in my range box. Sold all ten off at $20 each within the year. Went to get some more, and
they are not made. Dumb move on Lyman's part. Probably some dumb youngster in charge of
marketing, couldn't see that it did any good, dumped it. Any older person will instantly be amazed.

use those stick on dots they use on paper in binders.
or use target dots you paper punched.

I still haven't got used to shooting wearing readers.
if I look over the top I can clearly see the target, and see the sights through the glasses, but not both at the same time.

I can't do that with a shot gun so I find the blobs, lock my head down and look at the target.

Our first real cool front arrived this afternoon. First time I have had socks on since sometime in April. Its about 62 degf now but the forecast is more of the same so we are happy happy. My forklift is acting up and I need to fix it pronto. Some electrical gremlin to chase. I bought some wire safe electrical cleaner at O'Reilly's and will clean every connector I can find under the dash. Wiggling the harness while holding your nose just right seems to work but that ain't a fix. Such a simple machine but its an electrical issue. I kind of wish it was mechanical. The battery is new and the starter tested good. The ignition switch tests good so it has to be some corroded connection somewhere. '96 model Yale GLC-30. I have a power probe but lack the skills/interest in learning to use it LOL. Its going to be tedious. Wish me luck as I have to figure it out tomorrow morning before the next truck arrives.
So, since you posted this yesterday, did you have any luck?
If not, I wish you the best of luck on this project and maybe I can offer a couple suggestions?

While I had been 'twisting wires' for about 30 years, they were almost always new wires. Working on older equipment/cars has always been challenging to me, since it wasn't my forte'. If the gremlin is effecting more than one thing, it is most likely a ground wire/connection. Also, look for ground wires that flex during operation...there can be a conductor break, but the insulation can still look good, those are tough to find if you lack skills with a multi-meter (or power probe).
If the gremlin is only effecting one thing, that should be fairly easy, just follow the complete circuit...and cleaning the connectors, like you mention are a great way to start.
Good luck.
