Just checked their website, not open on Mondays. Or Sundays. Half day on Saturday. Seems they do plenty of procrastination too.

Ours is a Tractor Suppy Coleman. Another made in China special, like Massimo which also used to be sold by Tractor supply. I treat it gently, and it's been a godsend for us. Biggest thing for is the stuff it can do that an standard ATV can't- haul stuff in the dump bed. All our wood comes into the cellar that way, 100 lbs grain bags from the Suburban to the barn through mud I'm not even going to try to get the Burb backed up through. Fence post, wire and a post maul are a snap AND I can stand int he back of the UTV and drive posts. I drag my wood splitter with it right to the tree sometimes. The garbage goes to the sand pit where we.....well, I don't burn of of course cuz that is verbotten in NYS, but sometimes some of it gets mixed in with my agricultural refuse which IS legal for me to burn. That box on the back is almost as large as the box in a CJ jeep. All in all it's just plain handy. Yeah, a standard ATV is narrower, but the chief complaint I hear of from my friends is that swinging a leg up over the seat gets tougher as you get older and the steering wheel is lots easier on old bones than the tiller type ATV steering. No, they don't turn on a dime and I've never had mine over 25mph even going down the side of the road. I told the kids we will NOT!!!! be using it as a car like so many of the local trash use theirs. It's an agricultural implement, bought and paid for by my loving bride to make life easier for her old man. The kids can't grasp that it was a gift and I expect it to be treated that way. Tough cookies kids, my toy, my rules!

I was hesitant to get the Coleman and researched a Honda before we bought. A bare bones Honda, open station, no roof, no 4wd (IIRC), no dump box, no winch, etc was about $1k less than the Coleman and the interest was around 6-7%. A comparably outfitted Honda was over $13K I believe. I am under no illusions about the Coleman being anywhere near the quality of the Honda, but we do have a warranty service dealer nearby. It works for us.

Went to the gun show. The one gun I was really interested in, a '93 Mauser rebarrelled to 7.62x39 and with the magazine conversion for $285.00 sold when my attention was drawn to another table by one of the boys for 5 minutes. I have a Turk Mauser that would make a lovely 7.62x39 if I could find those kits. Also considered a Savage 340 in 30-30 with a nice older Williams recv'r sight. Sorry, but $500.00 for a 340 is just out of my ability to stomach! The one Savage 99 in 250-3000 I saw was very, very nice! It was also $1350.00! The 348 Winchester beside it was even nicer and $1999.00. The sole M1 Garand was $1200.00. A very, very ratty Ruger Security Six was $385.00, but it's from a local shop, so I may stop and see if he'll dicker some. He was pretty busy at the time I was there. There were several NYS legal AR types there in the $5-600 range. The Yugo SKS next to them was $450!!! What?!!!

All in all, it was a nice time with my boys. We saw some guns, I got some business cards from some local dealers and a holster maker from just over the swamp I didn't know existed and we had a good time. Oh, and I found a box of Sisk bullets from Hervey Lovells shop!!! I got sweaty palms when I saw the $12.00 price tag. The box had been opened and was supposed to contain 50 22 cal jacketed bullets. I opened it with trembling fingers and what do I see? Poorly cast 30 cal cast bullets. Talk about a let down. I thought I was going home with some history!

Dang. I found mine with a Lyman 55 peep for $159 :p My LGS had a nice Garand the other day for $1300...I should have bought one for $600 20 years ago when I had the chance....

Trashed 99 in 250-3000 on th rack here was something like a grand or 1100, still there I'm sure, and it wasn't even a takedown model. I didn't bother to insult the owner/gunsmith with my $200 offer to take the stock restoration/repair and rebarrel/refinish project off his hands. I have developed a hankering for a tang-safety 99 in 250-3000 though, maybe one day.

Cleaned the bore and reassembled my Mossberg 5.56 Aggravator, stuck the Vortex Diamondback scope back on it, and shot some more lapping rounds. Then I went up to Dad's with a bag full of .38 DAs and a big can of ammo. He grabbed some of his .45 Colt revolvers and some ammo I loaded for him on 12/12/2010 and proceeded into a lengthy aromatherapy session. We figured out we hadn't shot our revolvers together since before I loaded that batch, my how the time flies! With all the years of developing soap lubes and, more recently powder coating just about everything, I forgot how much I love the smell of HS-6 and Felix's World Famous Lube rolling out of a hot Peacemaker. Good times, and I'm sure the neighbors are all pissed off, but I get to listen to their various forms of racket constantly so as far as I'm concerned they can pound sand if it bothers them, we've been considerate to our own detriment long enough. I wish someone would stop the damned clock just for a bit though, there's so much to enjoy still and everyone is growing up or growing old. Dad turns 75 this year. Jackie turns three. I turn 45.

Isn't that the truth. I have a 28 month old Grandson now and I'll be 46 in August. I miss shooting with my Dad. He's been gone six years now.

A tang safety 250-3000 would be nice. I see some in 243, which to me is just another one of those answers in search of a questions when you have the 250-3000. I think Savage might have made a run of tang safety 250's late in their run of 99's, sort of a "retro" thing. I don't think many were made though. Could be dead wrong on that. The difference between the early and late 99's always seems to come down to weight. The pistol grip and "beaver tail" forearms added a ton. If I ever get around to putting a 99 I have together, it's going to be done 99A style with straight grip and narrow forearm.

I always had a wish for a model 99 in .284 Winchester...yeah newer style with tang safety, but as a lefty I thought it would make a perfect all around rifle. They never did make very many of them and those they did make got abused and...….well, I think they must have put a pound or more of 24K gold in the butstock's judging by the price they want for a decent one.

We restored some very neglected carpets in a 6 bd rm mcmansion today. Not sure if the 4' circle of purple was grape juice or wine but it came out easy. Most all of the funky stuff came out easier than expected. I'm still sore & tired though.

Well, I have this aversion to being broke. So, have a very hard time not doing good paying work whenever that's an option. Plus it's young man's work, sadly we aren't getting younger. This week was 8 or 9 days if there ever was such.

You could charge 25% more and work 25% less. That's the classic way of reducing your labor time without reducing your income when you're lucky enough to be swamped with work.

Rick - have one of those (not abused) W TX truck guns! Yeah, it is rough. And did an ugly workable stock repair job that works. But dang, it shoots great and deer are DRT! Son #3 killed his first deer with it, so in his safe now. But I have dibs if I ever want to go elk hunting or the like. 'Course, would be tough choice b/n that and the 358 Win!

Spent all day Saturday working on the drywall in the shop. Had to get one more sheet and used about half of it. Scott figured we would need ten sheets or a little more and he was dead on the money. Taped and mudded everything, I was working on it until 11 pm. Went over today after lunch and sanded everything and mudded again, didn't take nearly as much mud this time. I'm glad everything is vertical, no ceiling or other oddly oriented surfaces to deal with, but it's still pretty physically demanding work.

The walls are 9 foot high. I make three passes down each wall, We have a hydraulic hand lift truck that has a nice platform that fits over the forks. I raise the platform up to about 16" off the floor. My first pass gets everything from floor to knee high, I sit on the platform and push/roll along the wall. My next pass is from knee height to about a foot over my head, I just stand up and walk along the walls for this. My last pass is from head height to the top of the wall, and I stand on the platform for that. Constantly getting up and sitting down is somewhat challenging, and stepping up and down 14"-16" and standing for the tall parts is even more so. Of course there is the upper body work involved with the screwing, sanding, mudding, etc.

Not complaining, six years ago I was wondering if I would ever be able to walk again, Answered that question to my own satisfaction anyway. But I will sleep well tonight!

They buried the comm cable Friday, we can finally get the sawhorses out of the way and drive all the way around our building, we were using them to protect the cable that was laying on top the ground for the last four weeks. We also got a dumpster delivered last Thursday, so no trash worries now.

Tomorrow I will sand and mud again, I hope for the last time, it would be nice to get some paint on the walls and wrap this task up.

Kinda hard to find young people interested in hard physical labor that are both honest and intelligent at the same time.

Gotta tackle some heavy work today that just never got done while the kids were on vacation. Gonna be sore tomorrow.

Meant to mention that at that gun show I saw 2 Savage 24's in 22Mag over 20 ga. I was real interested, 2 completely different dealers 40 feet apart. The beat up, nasty one was $385 an the nicer one was $499. If the nicer one, and it had decent wood, had been $385 I might have considered it. Maybe I'm just cheap, but when you really want a 22 Hornet or 30-30 over a 20 ga, a 22 mag and birch stock just don't cut it.
