Wanting to empty a mostly full pound can of 5744, I tested 28.5-grains of it in the Pedersoli .45-70 rolling block along with Lyman's 457193 405-grainer. Fifty-yard grouping was not as tight as the rifle's favorite load, but good enough for its intended purpose.
Didn't look in the barrel for dead soldiers, as I have in the past, but there were a lot of them left in the brass.
Another powder that I want to get rid of is 4759. It and 5744 just have not got along exceptionally well with any of my rifles. Loaded 19.0-grains of it and Lee's 311-185 (195-grains checked and lubed) for the cutdown 1891 Argentine, but a problem with the old Lyman receiver sight made the session a bust.
