The quirks of handgun history

Hah, AMT....I own an OMC Backup.....little stainless 380 that fits in the palm of my hand. About the size of most 25 autos in 1975. OMC became AMT in the late 70's or early 80's.
It has rudimentary sights, a grip and manual safety and is a PITA to take down to clean, but is pretty accurate and reliable. Accuracy? I am the limiting factor with the tiny gun and sights. Well, I can keep all shots on a piece of letter sized stationary at 25 yds. The sights are the limiting factor. It digests all manner of factory ammo and likes Lee and NOE RN cast. Just started playing with the 95gr. Ranch Dog FP. I don't shoot is much these days.

I purchased and used it for what it was named....a back up gun while working, and a easy to hide summer carry gun. It is small but not particularly light in weight.

I have a Randall chambered in .45 ACP.
Didn't think it was a quirk, so never mentioned it.

The Randall was ahead of its time. Not many were making stainless pistols at the time (I think the AMT Hardballer may have been the first)
The Randall's were high quality pistols and they also had left handed 1911 pistols.
Now everyone makes a stainless 1911.
The Randall was a quirk because of its innovation and short production history.

Yep. Randall was an interesting firearms manufacturer, and only in business from 1983 to 1985. A left and right handed matched pair was made for the "Magnum P. I." television show, but they were never used, and must be worth a king's ransom now. The short barrel commander version was named for Gen. Curtis "Bombs Away" LeMay. Also, they were chambered in 9 mm Parabellum. I think there were only about 3000 made in .45 ACP.

Mine's a shooter not a safe queen, having sent many thousands of jacketed and cast bullets downrange. I had it and the Glock 27 listed on my CCW application but I had to drop the Randall due to a serial number snafu. I'm thinking of adding it again within the next few months, because the Glock is getting lonely.

You have to list WHICH firearms are on your CCW license? Does your driver's license say you can only drive a 2004 red Kia?
WOW - your "California Central Coast, Amid the Insanity" label is accurate.

You have no idea.

I read that a Judge In San Diego just struck down the background check requirement for ammunition purchases. I'm sure that will not be the end of that battle but at least one judge has a brain.

In Texas before clips became magazines and pistols developed multiple personality disorder. All handguns were pistols! When "Froggy went a courting he did ride. with a sword and pistol by his side", he did not have an autoloader. If it was good enough for Froggy and good enough for real Texans, it is good enough for me. Freaking gun PC! ;)

Well I can't speak for Texas, but where I come form there are pistols and revolvers.
If it's a handgun with the chamber integral to the barrel, it's a pistol.
If it's a handgun with multiple chambers arranged in a cylinder that rotates to align individual chambers with the barrel - it's a revolver.

Of course Froggie had pistols! They were Scottish all metal acorn handled flint locks! All I can add is my Drill Sergeant said my rifle and my gun were for different things.

Yuma is about 3 hours away, assuming I drive diligently and without SWMBO--who wants to take in Bombay Beach, The Slabs, Salvation Mountain, Algodones Dunes, and cruise lazily through the Imperial/Coachella Valley farm country. With Marie riding shotgun (and camera), it is an all-day sojourn. And a motel stay overnight, esp. this time of year. 100*+ in that part of the country currently. THANK GOODNESS--now the snowbirds will get driven out, and us locals get a little elbow room. The start of trout season coincides with the end of Turkey Season(s).

For both of us, then, a "grocery run" is definitely an overnighter.

Yuma's fresh produce/farmer's market is hard to beat. Heading out on Monday, SCE is cutting off the power for some construction gig down the street. ROAD TRIP!
