Need to make some bullets for the .357.
Just trying to figure out what mould to use.
I have 3 different moulds in that size.
Unfortunately all the previous loads for the 66 have been from gifted and purchased bullets.
What weight bullet is it sighted it for? That might be a starting point.

Forecast calls for 2" of rain over the weekend, there should be some casting time built into that for me.

I am getting low on the 148 grain Wadcutters, I use for my mouse fart loads. So figure I would break in one of my unused for the Revolver, moulds and see if I can get something to replace that low velocity load.
So I guess 148 grain or so.
I really need to dig out those moulds and see what I got.

It hard to beat the 358-158 RF Lee for an all purpose bullet. I wish there was was a 452/4-230 or 255 just like it for the 45AR , S&W ,and Colts .

It is a High Speed narrow jigging reel. I like it cause it is also a lever drag. Infinite drag control plus a stout drag. Big line take up which can be huge on big tautog as they don't like to leave there protective rocks.
I dont remember brand off top of my head. Very smooth.

Well I have 2 choices to cast tonight or tomorrow.
For my new 38spc, 21 ft, low velocity load.
Lyman 358311a - 60 grain RN
Or Lee 90303 - 158 RF

For now I am thinking the Lee.It seams to have worked well for a replacement for the Keith's in 357 so why not.

Have not used the lyman 160 yet. May just try and trade it for a 148 wadcutter mould later. Going to cast some 160's while at it any way, and play with those a bit later. See what they are good for.

Hey, Emmett, that 358311 sure looks familiar. How about casting a small, just because, batch?

My New Vaquero, Rossi/EMF Hartford sporting rifle, Uberti .38 Special 1866 sporting rifle, and ex-Blackhawk get along very well with the Lee 358-158 RF. For the .357s the favored load is 13.5-grains of 2400 though there are others using differing amounts of Herco, and the .38 likes Unique and SR 7625.

I was wondering where I got it from. Come to think of it I did cast some when I first got it. Just can't remember what became of them, and I did not take notes.:(.
Hope I did not offend.

I promise I will cast some and try them in my .357 and my buddies Rossi rifle. with H- Universal &110.

the 311 looks familiar because everyone on the planet used to sell something super similar to it in factory ammo.
i bet if you open a box of new remington 38's in lead formation they'll look just like it. [only with some grey coating]

figured you knew that... LOL
i had to learn it the hard way with an 11 cavity custom core mold i had made.

I do... and, kinda started out that way. but didn't go as planned/intended... And, also using a new to me RCBS Pro Melt. Temp control is awesome, but 'hole' is much smaller than I am used to/practiced using (cast iron pan over Coleman). a bit of a struggle... but I'll figure it out

I had listed the mould for sale, but you said Emmett needed a .357/.38 mould, so I shipped it to him.
Ye, I think I got that one and actually cast and loaded a few.
Then a certain "someone" sent me like a large supply of Kieth, and wadcutter bullets.
Needed to use those up.
Then forgot about that mould and the load I was working up.
And got two more around that time period.
The 158 lee I bought. But someone else here gifted me a 125 grain Lyman RN. Which is my dedicated ,9mm mould.

I really need to make better notes and organize.

Yep I did do a little casting with it. Think I actually learned to bottom pour pot cast with it. From this..
Found an old conversation we had, 462.
Quote me...
Jst did my first casting session today, used the MOULD you sent me.
Took me Bout 15 pound of range scrap till I finally got good bullets.
No fault of the mold just my learning curve.
I just ordered a thermometer. Going to try again after I get it in. I do have 20 good bullets that came out at.359.5 to.360 sized to .359 easy. Getting ready to work up a load with those .
Was getting some sticking but took a magnifying glass to it and found a very small burr on the edge of one cavity. Carefully removed it so we will see how well things go once my thermometer gets here.......

No trading that one, it broke me in!!!!

Then Fiver sends me a box of bullets, and I forget about it. Go figure.
What an ungrateful tramp I am.

Started up the casting pot last night. Then the son called and said the exhaust had fell to the ground on the truck. But the exhaust was not twisted.
So shut the pot down just as it was getting soupy. Then headed out with some bailing wire, and a set of fence pliers.
Left the boy the car and drove the truck home. Converter flange came loose, along with my previous strapping. Got it all up temporary, and got it home.
Boy was it loud.

the big groove bullet.

it's basically a lyman design with a huge lube groove.
one of those cowboy game things that morphed into an either or design.
fill it up with SPG or a high beeswax content lube and use it in your 44-40/45 colt/44 mag etc. with black powder or smokeless.
Dick Dasterdly got his name attached to the design somehow too along the way, but the dutchman was the original thinker upper.
