Finally cool enough to cast bullets today, 56*. One the left is the NOE 502-375 for a friends new Freedom Arms 50 AE. Not what I would have chosen, but he likes the old Lyman Hi-Vel-Pen bullets. On the right is the RCBS 45-270 bullet for the 45 Colt. Made about 75 of them for practice and ten to keep for the SAA that I carry walking in the winter time in the foot hills. Alloy is 1990's WWs and 2% tin run at 700*.

Well haven’t cast with it mainly because it was just shipped from Arsenal this morning. A 22 caliber 36 grain 5 cavity slick sided little pill for the 16 inch twist Hornet and Bee. Never cast or shot a slick before.. should be here by Friday or Saturday. Need to do some casting this weekend.

I got to cast a little yesterday .
That H&G monster still kicks me . It's sure nice when it gets rolling but I tossed back half . It's too long for the hot plate but warming sprue plate down on the 20# pot works out ok for that side ....... Probably wouldn't hurt to have a bigger ladle .

Ran about 140 27-150 SP to patch for 7mm . It's new to me a little too tight I think but it ran well . I guess I must be doing something right . I had about 10 at 151.2-151.7 and 10 at 152.9+ the bulk were 152.2-152.5 I kept up to .7 .

I should probably measure them for the 6.8 bolt gun too. I think it a 1-10" , I'm pretty sure the 1-11" won't get it done . The 1-9.5" 7×6.8 will as will either of the ×57s .

I'm sort of thinking about a Beagle just to get nose dia up on the 7mm 168 . I've been threatening it with nose lapping or actually reaming it .278......

Well , not bullets but cast up 500 jigs today 1/8,1/4,3/8,5/16,1/2 Oz 100 each, should be set for years if not for life !
I am going to try PC for first time.

I have a tip for you regarding powder coating jigs that has made my life easier. I screwed the base plate onto my Harbor Freight heat gun and set it on the bench next to my powder paint fluid bed gizmo. Next i take some heat shrink tube in a real small size, 2 m/m maybe and using a scissors cut as many 1/8th to 3/16ths inch long pieces as jigs I'm going to paint. I have a rack ready to hang the jigs from.

Now I take a hemostat and grip the hook in the curve, slip a piece of shrink tube over the eye of the hook and heat it above the heat gun. Not very long or you char the shrink tube. Then I swish the hot jig into the powder paint in the fluid bed just a very quick dip, then hang it on the rack. I do about 20 then stop and using my thumb nail and finger peel the shrink tube off. You can let them cool completely but you may need a pocket knife to pry off the shrink tube. But when you do you have a perfectly clean eye on your jig. When I get the whole batch done I hang them in the little convection oven I bought for 20 minutes at 400°.

My little brother does these.

He heats the jig head then " swooshes" in thru the powder and hangs it from a wire on a ranch that fits into his toaster oven fir baking. Works well for him.

i just shake and bake mine.
i don't get enough powder on anything i coat to even come close to filling in the eye.
i just hang them on the rack and cook.

i do run each one over a hook sharpener just to make sure, which i do to any i use anyway.

See if the rifle is fun or abusive to shoot. It's a Browning Traditional hunter with a crescent buttplate.
My wife found a new one that she feel in love with and just had to have, and makes it very clear to me that it is "her rifle...." Now if I could only get her to cast for, and load for "her rifle"...... Nah, then she never would let me shoot it.
We took the factory rear soule off of her 1885 BPCR 40-65 and put it on the 38-55, and then put an MVA soule (over twice the available windage) on the 40-65.
Even with 48grs of 2f pushing a 250-ish grain slug, the little 38-55 it feels like a pop gun. Sometimes when we take it out and she lets me shoot it, I turn my head around and ask her "did it go off?" Yah, I get in trouble a lot.

Try a .45-70 with 70 gr of Cartridge behind a 530 gr bullet. Pretty much anything feels like a pop gun compared to that. The .38 was not abusive, but with my floater issue, I tend to err on the side of caution. Eyes are too important to risk anything.

Might see if I can find a replacement barrel in .32-40 and may rebarrel the Browning, too.

Yes indeed, I certainly don't blame you, when my ophthalmologist told me that I had a floater I ask him what it looked like, his reply "looks like a piece of snot" I chuckled, then after a short pause, continued with that he had no idea what possesed him to describe it that way even though it was the best description.

My BPCR silhouette load is basically the same, 532gr Saeco 745 pushed by 72gr of 1.5f. Still a pussy cat, ok maybe a bit more, when I get bored with the 45-70, the 50-90 gets the nod with a 650gr slug escorted on it's way by 96gr of 1f. That might explain why I ask the same question when I am behind my wife's 40-65. Some men buy a Harley when they turn 50, or a little zoom zoom sports car, maybe some eye candy half his age, I opted for something that matched my age. Oddly enough most of my better scores have been shot with it.

Poured another 135 H&G#130s this morning.

I need a bigger pot , with a bottom pour , and a roller rest . A 3rd handle wouldn't hurt anything either.

I did receive the 36 grain slick sided mold in the mail yesterday. So I will post a couple of pictures of the 36 grain mold and the other 47 grain Arsenal mold I hope will work in the 16 inch twist barrels. I’m hoping to cast with both this weekend

Not casting, but using the same stuff. :) Annealing 40/50 Sharps Straight cases made from 30/40 Krag cases in 2008. They hadn't been sealing and letting gas back, I think because the necks were getting hard. Anyway this is my set-up: aluminum plate with blind holes floating on alloy. It will anneal .30 caliber necks in about 30 seconds, but take a little over a minute to do straight wall cases with more mass.

How do you determine when they are done? Are you using tempilaq, or another indicator?

Yep, a temperature pencil for the first batch, and time it. Then I just time the next ones. Not perfect but is effective. Plus you can't overheat as the air currents keeps the head below 300*. And cases are clean and ready to size.
