What Did You Shoot Today?

Saltine crackers. Feeds the little critters, too, especially the fire ants and doesn't give them dyuhbeetus like the dregs of wounded coke cans.

I can’t get the moths to hold still -- straight pins work.
Shot the 30/30 145gr PB PC 10 gr unique, worked quite well and BO 145 GC PC 17.5 W296. Both rifles zero'd at 100 with jacketed. Tried the new elec. muffs Daughters got me for Christmas, work fine but forgot the batteries. Alloy was WD for the BO, AC for 30/30. First 2 shots were the high right for the BO AR. Need to get big shoot-n-see to track progressing of shots next time. I bumped the unique load up 1/2 gr and it held OK. Did have a couple I (got surprised when the fired) pulled. It was a very relaxing time at the range. Difference in moulds is basically PB has most of shank removed. Now I should get the 2 new bags of Rem 30/30 brass and load them with the PB.

I think peeps work better if you let them dry out . I have a freezer that eats ice cubes almost as fast as it makes them on one side of the freezer I bet it'd make the starch poofs in a day .

Finally got around to testing out the 6.5 creedmoor. Soooooo much fun getting used to it!! Got the scope sighted in at 50yds initially, and am ready for final sighting in at 100/200/300. Older leupold fixed 6x scope on top, with handloads... h4350 and nosler 140gr cust comps. Just amazing!!

6 1/2" 624, 429421, 7.5-grains of Unique -- an all-day shooting and accurate load.

.223 Ruger American Rifle, Sierra 69-grain HPBT, and 26.0-grains of BL-C(2) rivaled the accuracy of last week's
26.3-grains of Varget. Varget has a slight edge so will load that till the almost empty bottle is empty.

The .38 Special Uberti 1866 was jumping up and down wanting to go, but the 624 won out because it has new grips and a new load.

A rabbit with my 20 guage 870 #6 shot.

And I loaded it myself with an MEC. I am thinking about buying from a friend. Just that money is tight now. It's not going anywhere the offer is exclusive.

He is older and just don't have the gumption to hunt much and commit to shoot skeet anymore. Showed me how to load shotgun, on it.

Just my Benelli 90s in a Bullseye match last night. Damnd if a "bad bullet didnt ruin my best score in a long time!!

Slow 97
Timed 89 8x
Rapid 99 9x

I had a bullet strike OUTSIDE score rings!! I felt no difference in recoil or report... but there it was just under target clamp just left if center. 10pts off a other wise 99 scoring tgt. It would have been a 295 17x was just a good 285 17x. Good and top score last night... But 10pts down!! Grrr

I also sited my S&W 22-15 with a Redfield 2x7 22LR spec scope.

My first ever lower build AR. Bought the upper/10.5" pistol. Low end/cheap build to get my feet wet. Worked great/very happy with it. Prob fiddle with sights, and might eventually sell at a show. But want to def keep an AR pistol o/h.

And the 21-4 (round butt) with a new to me Miculek grip. Finally found a set of grips I like on the RB N frame! Also determined I will NOT shoot it with anything heavy (Keith 250/16 grn 2400 will rock your world!). It doesn't soak up the recoil like the NMBH or the 624! It will be basically my 44 SPC revolver loaded to 44-40 clone level - albeit with 250 Keiths. I do need to reshoot the Skeeter load in it with this Mick grip. I think that will be fine. Otherwise, it will be the 250 Keith w/ ~13.5/2400 and ~7.0 Unique.

What did I shoot today? I think myself in the foot. I mixed up a tiny carefully measured amount of clear coat epoxy and brushed it on the tip section of an old two piece Daiwa trolling rod. The old clear coat over the windings was dull and crazed. I have several older St. Croix and Daiwa rods that are probably 40 years old and still perfectly usable. A fresh coat of epoxy over the guide windings, a nice coat of Johnson's wax on the glass, and scrub the cork handles bright and clean and they are as good as new. If the epoxy would only DRY! The tip section has been rotating to cure since well before noon yesterday. Not being a total dummy, I did not touch the windings themselves to check for tackiness, I touched the piece of aluminum foil I mixed the puddle of epoxy on and it is still sticky.

I wonder if it just too cool in the lower level of the house for good curing. I used actual rod wrapping clear coat too instead of 5 minute epoxy. I knew it had a longer curing time to provide adequate time to brush it on a rod, but this is ridiculous .

Just give it time Ross. I used to dilute the epoxy with acetone to get smoother flow and sometimes it took 3-5 days to fully harden. (I spun my rods in a covered box to guard against dust.) I wouldn't worry until it gets to be a week. Most of my rod work was done in my basement in the winter and it was rarely over 60 degrees down there. Cool temps slow set up as well.

There ya go. I wiped the old wrappings down with acetone right before I recoated them so they would be clean and I anticipated a good bond.

I just fixed a handle on a gifted rod. Its quite old turned wooden handles. I pulled butt as it was loose. Cleaned scarified and mixed up epoxy, applied and set aside. Took solid 48 hours to cure! I leave a cup and check that for cure.

I need to address the wraps next. They are good but dry and not coated as wraps are today. My buddy has a rotisserie for this.

Looking forward to fishing this rod this year.
