I don't load crooked rounds but have had a few with a bulge.

Rick, you need a 9mm. Lots of fun, not much powder or lead.

9mm cartridges are like Skittles.

A little trick I came up with to keep my .45 ACP bullets from getting crooked in the cases during seating was to take a resized .44Magnum case, fill it with epoxy putty, and shove the nose of the bullet I wanted to use in the mouth until it stopped, while making certain the bullet and case were in line with each other. The result was a seating plug that perfectly fits .45 caliber Lee Precision seating dies. A small hole is drilled through the middle of the whole thing to vent air and lube. After I started making and using those plugs, no more unevenly bulged cases. It made me feel better and helped to prevent the occasional jam, but honestly, it didn't really improve my groups.

This is thread has some stellar tips. I will now have to take a serious look at how I load for my gp100. I've always achieved good results with jbulls but haven't gotten the same 50+yds results with cast yet.

I have never even considered trimming revolver brass, ever.

I darn near bought one of those revolvers last summer. I held off because my gut is telling me 454 instead.

I may get a 9. Not! For the same reason my 1911 45 will never be worn out . . . A profound dislike of chasing brass.

A 454 huh? I had one, an FA right after they came out. Even shot silhouette with it but not with 454 loads. A very viable cartridge for where there is a need for it. Sure glad I got old enough to outgrow that need.

The m1A was strictly a bucket list thing. I've wanted one ever since my Uncle handed me one in 1968 and had me qualify with it. Just never got roundtoit. Now I gots me one. Probably won't hunt with it, will use one of the Ruger revolvers. Don't need no long gun for huntin these parts, a hundred yard shot is very unlikely.

Well, if you get sick of chasing that high-dollar .308 brass, get yourself a mesh laundry bag, the kind ladies put their underclothes in for the wash so the various straps, hooks, cables, buckles, wires and other such devices don't get entangled with the other clothes or agitator, and make yourself a brass catcher. I made hoops out of stiff wire to keep the bag open like a butterfly net and used a block of wood for a base, drilling holes in it to support the ends of the wire. Works great on a bench.

No 454 for me. If I want to wrench my wrists like that I have. 45 Colt Blackhawk that does so just fine.
Chasing brass is about the best exercise there is Rick.

You can shoot 45lc in the 454. Most loads would be downloaded for fun. Having the ability to use something really stout would come in quite handy in wide open hunting areas.
If I found a 44 at just the right price my decision would be swayed. Could wined up with both.

Rick
Ruger is making the convertible line with a 9mm cylinder. There you go no brass chasing required unless you drop it.

Rick doesn't need a nine, so many in the safe now that I don't get much chance to shoot no sense to add another one.

I bought the 454 to shoot silhouette. One shot fired with a FA starting load of H-110 and 240 gr bullet was proof positive there would be no 40-60 or 80 round matches with that. The winning load with the 44 mag was 23.5 gr of H-110 and a 240 gr bullet at about 1380 fps. FA's starting load for a 240 bullet was 36.0 gr H-110 at over 2000 fps and over 2000 ft-lbs of energy.

I did a bunch of load testing and ended up with 34 gr IMR 4198 with the 240 gr bullet at 1430 fps. Accurate & pleasant to shoot.

And a palm to the head moment on the crooked 9mickeymeter. I'll bet I did not align the dies to the tool head on my 550 for 9mm. I bet I need to take the play out of the die threads and align the dies to the ram. I better check that.

First time you shot the Nano---didn't even finish the magazine, when it failed. Suffering from CRS?
Recoil spring assembly gave up the ghost!

Was I shooting it when that happened? I must have squeezed it to hard or something huh?

If he didn't have a 9 mm then why did he have 9 mm brass?

I gave him hundreds of rounds of 9 brass just to get rid of them. That cartridge has way too much power for me.
