"red horse got canned"....surely not actual horse meat. What does this refer to?
Winelover covered it. Red horse is a large sucker with golden/silver scales and reddish fins. On the other hand, the only canned horse I ever ate was a pinto. A 28 year old mare that got scared in a T-Storm, slipped on the wet clay and split her pelvis. Not my horse, but I shared a few jars with the owner, it was good too! Just like canned venison, beef, or buffalo.

Let's play jeopardy with Alex Trebark.....

"BW,your pick"

Alex,I'll take...."what would you rather be doing" for 2000.

"OK,here's the ?..... would you rather be building a new set of woody arrows"

"Mowing grass"

Or

"Out wandering in the woods looking for something to shoot"

Alex, let's go with..... how to wander around in the woods shooting stuff.

"Ding,ding...we have a winner. Stay tuned for final jeopardy".... "why are rifle twist rates such a mystery".

100% agree with that. Horse meat is very good. My wife is as big a horse fan as you could be, rides EVERY day. Rain, snow, heat. She asked for seconds!
It's a shame feelings get in the way of good food.

Sept. 10, 2021 Steve left us. You are missed.
I think Red Horse Sucker Fish are what we in Texas call Carp.
Is that correct?

Don't know about Texas but here in the Ozarks we have several kinds of suckers and carp as well. They are all bottom feeders but sucker's aren't carp.

Red horse suckers are a native fish, carp were introduced in the 1880's. With all the ecological damage imported carp have done it is a shame. That said, carp smoke up very well also. My Dad used to smoke it over apple wood and it was like fish ham. He'd take a wash tub full of chunks wrapped in waxed paper to work with him and sell every piece in a day.

My bad.
I looked Red Horse Sucker Fish on the internet and it l [ked a lot like the carp my dad used to catch.
He'd cook them in a pressure cooker.

Cut up one downed tree, hauled part of it to the burn pile. More to do.

Ok, red horse is some odd fish. Gee, how in the heck did I miss something so obvious?:headscratch::rolleyes:

You can learn something every day, if you'll pay attention.

My mother always said this carp is misspelled. Being from northern CA she grew up eating trout and salmon.

I enjoy fishing but am a complete catch and release guy, no desire to ea them at all.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
Nice little 2" snowfall overnight. Lovely. Spent yesterday trying to line up vehicle repair. The rear hatch on the Explorer is unfixable according to our body guy, which means it's rusted to the point he won't work on it because it's just going to rust out again. Would have been nice if he'd mentioned this last spring when it was in having the , you guessed it, rear hatch door being painted. But he does great work, so, here we are. The good news is the $1200 we spent fixing the entire rear hub support system (I'd call it the trailing arms/wishbone castings) came with a 2 year warranty so the bad bearings should be covered. Of course that garage is 40 miles the opposite direction from the body shop. Her Wrangler wiper motor seems to have died. I was hoping it was dirty connectors, but nope. Gotta order that, but she has to drive the Explorer with the bad bearings. She won't consider driving the Escape that I welded the tranny cover on and the F350 is simply out of the question. Daughter should be coming home from hosp. today or tomorrow, so that's good. Spent late afternoon cutting wood (we're out, just like everyone else) and followed up with baked chicken for supper. Town Board meeting went okay, but the State wants more money, the union doesn't seem to be living up to it's agreement in the last contract and we can't get into the deceased highway superintendents computer to access time sheets for the guys because he added his own password. Sigh...........

Seen on a famous social media site:

"I let it get hot, like 1000°f hot. Has the temperature caused the strange colors? As soon as I scrape the surface it goes gold within seconds then pink then green."

I tell ya I don't get sick very often , been like 3-4 yr since I had a real keep me down bug ........ This one is killing me . Everything hurts , fever , sweat , fever , not hungry but craving absolutely everything that is wrong to eat while sick . You can't believe how bad I want a glass of milk and a bag of Oreos . Milks bad for head colds ........ Having had my foot run over by a forklift I can tell you that it feels like it got my calves this time . .

Puttering around the house when it doesn't hurt under OD levels of assorted OTC snot meds I dug through some more of Dad's stuff and found a small drum for the UniFlow measure . No bushing or rod but I have the drum and I think I remember seeing the other parts someplace . The Uni just doesn't like to throw under about 4.0 Unique with the big drum .
I did mount the stand solid on the new bench .

RB, this your first full spring in Arkansas? Bet tree pollen is kicking your ass.
Trees are the bane of my existence at work in spring. Summer is grass and fall is ragweed. At least that is what we get in Nebraska.
