A buddy and I went on a spotlighting deer count with a ODF&W wildlife biologist last night.
I t was pretty foggy in some areas so that limited how far we could see.
Saw 55 deer on the routes we went , which was a little low.
We thought the limited visibility was the cause.
There was a little above average buck/doe ratio.
We did see two bunches of 4 bucks each.

obssd1958, sure sorry you had to endure that surgery. Very glad it worked out so well. Thankful for the advances in medicine over the years. "There, but for the grace of God go I".

Allen, thank you for teaching me something. I'm hypoglycemic. In spite of the fact that I've been that way for at least a decade, I'm told that can evolve or devolve into diabetes at any time. Dad had type 2 and had a gangrenous foot amputated.
With that knowledge and a little foresight, we had hopes of either buying a single level ranch type home or possibly a home with a walk-out basement that had an elevator; got the latter. So, even if I end up unable to negotiate stairs, I can still easily go from upstairs to basement shop and vice-versa. What I hadn't thought of is access to the bench surface from the perspective afforded by a wheelchair. As I'm in the process of designing a reloading bench, was giving that some thought and instead of a lower bench surface, I'll leave room for a raised platform in front of the bench, wide enough to move and rotate in a wheelchair.
Hope your bruising and soreness heals soon, but don't jump the gun and get back on the prosthetic too soon. Probably something I would do.

One of these days I’m going to design a wheelchair that can raise you up to normal height. I’m 6’-5”, all the countertops in current house are too tall when I’m on wheels instead of feet.

Thanks for the thoughts and concerns folks. I'm at home already, but will have a couple weeks of "don't pick up anything bigger than a gallon of milk", and then a couple months of rehab and recuperation.
Vacation!!!
(of course a real vacation brings up images of having enough money not to work, and having an enjoyable time - neither of which will be happening here!)
But I'm thankful and blessed for all of the things that led up to me getting this done WITHOUT having a stroke or heart attack!!!

And Allen - take care of yourself and prayers for a quick recovery from the challenges!

Fiver - how's your daughter doing?

Keith--You would sell a BUNCH of such wheelchairs, I assure you--a couple of them to me, for certain.

I put the Faux Foot back on this morning, but I am not planning any half-marathons for the afternoon.

Best wishes to Don on that new heart valve placement. It is amazing how surgical procedures have advanced over the years.

Fiver,
I forgot about your daughter -- I hope everything goes as planned, and that she has a speedy and uneventful recovery.

Back in the frickin ICU with my dad. Had to go back because rehab was concerned about his breathing and BP.
After having spent 9 weeks here before his 2 weeks at rehab I detest the place. I also detest MDs who obviously dislike being asked questions.

Rant over

Hope all thing go good for your father.

As to the MDs who don't like to answer question. Just look them in the eyes and state that you are the one who is paying them and you want your money worth. And if they can't provide that, fire them. There are lots of doctors out there. And doctors hate to be told they are not worth what they are getting paid. It is like the ultimate insult. And I speak from experience, lots of it.

And now I am done with my rant. Sorry.:sigh:

Brad, sorry that your dad is having difficulties. I know you'll stand your ground with the docs. With your knowledge and background and being your dad's advocate, you'll make them do their job.

Lite breeze whilst blasting the 22-250 today. It was good to see the load holding it's own in the condition. Nice round groups. The H4198 is still climbing, primers are filling out well. Getting a consistent small blowback of carbon on the necks so loaded neck OD/chamber #'s are GTG.

Had to order 50 cases from Midway this afternoon, split a cpl necks on a batch. Will anneal some other cases tomorrow to hold me over till the new ones show up.

Me and Coco went Christmas shopping. She's off leash pretty much everywhere these days. Really nice seeing folks reactions to her behavior, and voice commands. Got some more wreath "stuff" at the craft store. Doing another deer head wreath. This one has real, fake pine cones haha.

Well damn and just when things were looking up. Keep us informed, hopefully just a minor set back.

Been my experience with MD's that don't like questions is because they don't know the answers and they are afraid to let you know that they don't have a clue. Possibly time for someone with a bit more integrity than that.

No new pictures of shop progress but a lot has gotten done. Met with the Master electrician at our present shop so he could look over all the equipment that would be moved to new building. Then we went over to new building and stuck masking tape labels on the walls and floor. By the time we were done he was satisfied that he knew what he needed to know to do finish the job.

The gas line is hooked up to the meter connection and the inspector OKed it so now I'm waiting on the power company to hang a meter and turn on the gas line at the street. Then we will have heat! Three days with heat and we can get the floor sealed, which is the key event right now. After the floor is sealed we can move the machines and mount/level them, the carpenters can finish the drywall and paint, the electricians can hook up the machines and finish the fixtures in the bath and office, and we can move the office stuff.

Until then I have done all the planning and preparation I can think of. I've successfully built my own low cost computer (I want one at each principal workstation) There is a thread in another section here about that.

We still have hopes of moving before Christmas and being in full operation in January. We're so darned close!

Wow, page 500!

Man, the ol' Pedersoli .45-70 rolling block/Navy Arms Buffalo Rifle, and Lyman's 405-grain 457193 with some Unique continues to be a hoot-to-shoot.
I'm sure some young buck with unaided 20/20 vision could put 10 rounds into one hole. As it was, my 20/40 corrected vision and floaters shot just a wee bit over 100-yard MOA. Actually, that was for seven shots, as the other three were off due to errant trigger control.
I've been shooting the rifle at 50-yards, because of my vision, so I'm very happy with this morning's results.
Sights are a Lyman 17A front with post and bead and an anonymous Vernier rear. I should replace the Lyman insert(s) with Lee Shaver.

finally got a chance to sit down.
didn't have to get up till 4am so that was a bonus.
the wife got us out the door early which turned out to be okay with me as soon as we left town we run into some pretty serious fog interspersed with snow.
oddest thing I've ever seen, couple hundred yards of pea soup fog, then clear for 75yds or so, then fog, then a band of snow for a mile or so.
the fog wasn't a sit on the ground I wish the truck were higher fog either, it went all the way up to the summit on our side and it snowed all the way to the bottom on the other.

anyway we got her over there a bit early and they got her in just about on the time they said they would.
the doctor come in before the actual prep work and was a pretty nice and competent guy.
he was going to have a partner working with him, and his partners dad was going to observe the operation.
the Dad had just flown in from Florida where he was giving a lecture to a bunch of other Dr.'s [about something to do with vascular something or other] so I'd say she was in good hands.
the gall bladder thing went smooth as silk, but they had to do some reconstruction on an earlier operation on her stomach.
the first Dr. had done the operation properly but didn't pull everything over quite into the right alignment nor tight enough so they kind of had to retrace his work then do the whole thing right.
this added about an hour and a half to the time.
she is gonna be a bit sore for a couple of weeks.

while she was under the laser?s I took the wife around town looking at water heaters, and finally decided to just buy one here in town, they were all pretty much the same price no matter who made them.
I hooked the drain up to the old one and prepped the new one then rolled the old one over to the side and put the new one in and had it up and going before the old one was half way drained.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
Another round of best wishes to all our ailing members and their families!

Did a little wood cutting and hay moving yesterday. Oldest son bought mounted winter tires and rims for his Saab. $115.00 for 4 rims and good used tires, he's a better cheapskate than I am! He's getting into fixing his car, also a used deal he got this fall. Previous owner ran over a bike in wall to wall rush hour traffic (I wonder where the bike rider was?!!) and it did some undercarriage damage Matt wants to fix. We're finding out you can't drive a modern car up on a set of ramps built in the early 80's. He picked up a set of composite ramps that are supposed to work. I'm not thrilled with the idea of fiberglass (my term) ramps. Have to try them. This also brought out the fact that having only 1 floor jack is a real pain. Looks like Harbor Freight will be getting more money after the sheep sell.

Took the daughter to a nearby towns Christmas parade last night. She's 16 and just HAS to get out of the house, you know the drill. Saw some folks I hadn't seen in a couple years and the kid froze because at 16 you are so smart you don't listen when Dad says to dress warm. Ah well, at least she got entertained and she loves the McDonalds hot chocolate.

This is an entirely farm related observation, so read at your own risk if that stuff bores you. Tractor tires are just horribly expensive these days. Not as bad as they were, but the days of $150 14.9-28's left with Barry Manilow and the Chevy Chevette. Guys like me who deal with mud, snow and ice for 6 months or more out of the year need traction. 4WD tractors are way out of my league, so we resort to tire chains. 15 years ago you could put a set of brand new double ring chains on a tractor for half the cost of one new tire. I need a set of 16.9-30 chains since someone lost one of the set I did have "somewhere over that way". We looked all summer but Gord can't say just where it dropped off. A set of new chains now costs as much as about 1 3/4 of a set of new tires. I even tried asking the company if I could buy just 1/2 a pair of chains. Yeah, but you only save $100 on the cost of 2 by the time you get done shipping them. Sheesh! Things like this just make me shake my head and wonder how anyone is going to be able to afford to feed this country on down the line.

Gee whizz, everybody doing hospital time, hope everything works out. I haven't gone that far, yet. New Dr put me on Gabapentin a couple weeks ago for Neuropathy in my feet. Had a reaction to it Thanksgiving night. Right arm(where I've got shoulder problems) went partially numb and tingly clear to my fingers. Lots of pain with it. Then my right thigh and the right side of my face joined in. Could hardly walk, wobbled from side to side pretty bad. Wife thought I was having a stroke and wanted to take me to the emergency room. Talked her out of it. Lasted near 24 hrs in waves, sometimes better, sometimes worse. Of course the Drs office was closed till Monday. It mostly cleared up Friday night, but had a couple short lived spells Saturday. I still have a few dizzy spells if I get to working hard, like dragging my deer Wednesday. Wear out really quick. Finally got ahold of the Drs assistant with the story and after talking to the Dr he called me back with "just quit taking it and we'll see you at your next appointment in February" Real concerned, not. From google searches, the drug was developed for seizures and one of the precautions is to back off slowly if you quit it or it could cause a seizure. I'm thinking I had a mild seizure while taking it.
