Okay, got it. Only this morning, my wife accused me of having a slow brain.

Those parts are kind of an Achilles' heel on the Lyman 4500/450. I don't size down much over .002" steps in these tools in the interest of tooling longevity. Harder alloys + larger diameters make me even more circumspect.

That is where the Lee push thru sizers excel. The reloading press can take far more abuse than the Lyman/RCBS/Star sizers can. I have often done the major resizing with a Lee push thru then just lubed and final sized in the Star.

the top of a reloading press Ram isn't as tough as one might think.
I have mushed down 2 and bent down the edge of where the shell holder goes in on another.
and no there was not a big bar involved.

I bent the handle on my Lee Classic Cast while sizing some 8mm bullets down to .318”. Those bullets had been water dropped and had sat around for a week or two.

Well . . . things were going great till the Lyman 4500 broke, while I was installing plain base gas checks. Drat!
The right-angled link that screws onto the end of the handle and connects it to the ram is the dirty rotten culprit.
According to Lyman's web-site, the $9.54 part is on backorder. Double drat!!
Well, I've used my drill press to set GC;s before, not ideal but works. I don't grease my cast anymore, just PC.

Well I have found out an old single stage Lee press is tougher then 1/2 inch particle board.
"Some guys" told me to make the bench of at least 1 inch of plywood, did I listen??? No had 1/2 inch plywood on hand and did a quick repair. I currently have disassembled loading stand. LOL

As some of you know, I have some issues with my health. Well the heat at work, has been getting to me, pretty much just wipes me out, on all levels. So as of lately I have not been too social, just sleeping a lot. Or just wiped out watching TV, or sitting on the porch, drinking Ice tee.
Get this way every time we get a heat wave, then guys who cannot handle the heat quit.
Short staffed so... I have to work around the furnaces more, after being acclimated to the lab.
So not avoiding you guys, just after a couple weeks constantly running from climate control to 180 deg. get wiped out.

I just finished building a lightweight range scrap sifter. The son and I are going shooting out in the woods this afternoon. There is a berm out there that is full of lead.

Plain based checks with a drill press? I doubt it.
Nope, not the plain based one's.

Gave it a try and it's not worth the effort and time.

I can go without the 4500 for a while, and can always remount the 45 if desperation sets in. Things could be worse, like someone needing primers.

This recourse is really the best answer to such issues, viewed objectively. I have a nice range of H&I die sizes accumulated over the years, so I haven't resorted to the Lee system yet.
