These slugs get over six inches long!

It’s a nice hike out to my spot.

My spot maxes out at 150 yards. Where I was standing at the edge of the ravine is about 45 yards from the targets.

Forgive me for the napkin art. I didn’t remember to take any photos while I was berm mining. The berm that I was collecting lead at is a few miles down the road from the trailhead to “my spot“.

The range scrap sifter/shaker box worked well. The hinged legs made quick work for the sifting and shaking. Load it, shake it, set the end with the handles down on a bucket, and then...

Sort out all the rocks. So many rocks!!! There were 20-30 pebbles for every bullet. It was pretty slow going. After 45 minutes there was only one inch of lead scrap in the bottom of my five gallon bucket. There is a lot of lead there. I’ll probably be back at it again. Cause treasure hunting is fun!

Or, I could work some overtime and buy a whole sail boat keel!

All in all, the boy and I had a great day.

I find it faster to just pick up bullets one at a time. Your finger quickly will learn to differentiate rock from bullet by weight.
I can easily get 10# in 5 or so minutes this way.

I thought that slug was a snake eating another snake when I first looked at it.

I been watching the bass masters fishing tournament the last few days.
I kind of like the camera on the boat live thing, it's a lot better than watching some lamely hyped up weigh in.
your right there watching them fish, listening to them talk, and seeing what they are using as well as how they are using it.

Well I just got an edjmacation . . . .

shocked-1.jpg I bought a new freezer, delivered yesterday. Was gonna order some cow from Omaha Steaks. Key word there is "WAS". Just looked online, for 24oz Porterhouse they are a mere $65 per steak minimum order two. T-Bones are a bargain I guess at only $50 per steak. Went to another online cow seller, Butcher Box, no idea what they have or how much it might cost. Why? Because you have to sign up for automatic monthly deliveries before you can even see their menu.

everything is screwed up right now.
they are dumping milk, and still charging 3$ a gallon.
they are giving cows away,, and selling them in packages for around 8 grand per cow at the same time.

Took 5 months to get the freezer, once the china flu hit there wasn't any TP or freezers to be had in town or online and the boat from china is quite slow.

Oh, english is so nuanced! I should have said “sort though all the rocks” instead of “sort out all the rocks”. I do the hand picking thing. I am probably spending to much time making sure I get everything out of each basket load.

I have dug there before with a chunk of 2x4. I collected about the same amount of lead that first time but wasn’t keeping track of time.

This area isn’t a proper range. It’s just a well used public land spot. There is lead there, just takes a bit more time.

Ye prices are crazy. I have saw hamburger at 6 bucks a pound 1 week and 2 bucks the next.
In fact 1 week I actually bought porterhouse instead of hamburger because the steak was cheeper.
My grocery bill is now averaging 25 - 50% higher then before coved.
Good thing Hanes is now selling washable masks at Walmart. like 3 bucks for 5 in different collars. None of us can sew. My son needs them for school and now we must wear them inside when not at home. So I broke down bought some and am wearing a mask to church today. First time since the first week of the virus.

Have had some mining trips but generally my rule is at the end of a shooting session, I remove twice what I shot in lead and brass if possible.

Fiver is a retired roughneck, he don't need no stinkin' pipe or bar to break stuff.

No intent to cast dispersions on Fiver!
In my younger days, I could split an anvil with a rubber mallet.
As I've gotter older, I've learned leverage is my friend.
I've got a whole set of pipes in the shed that fit different sockets, wrenches and other tools. I've even got one in the truck and another in the wife's car that fit over the end of the lug wrench.
I used my lug wrench pipe just last week, changing a tire for a woman in the Sam's parking lot during "senior hours".
I had fogotten how hard it is to change a passenger car tire in a parking lot, crammed up against another car!

Home-made from scratch cinnamon rolls today for brunch......that Marie can REALLY cook and bake! SCRUMPTIOUS!

Today's schedule will include further R&D with those new Pachmayr speed-loaders and various 38 and 357 brass makes to see what works and doesn't. I'll figure out what to do after more testing, but since most of CA LE uses the Remington 38 Special 125 grain JHP +P in J-frame S&Ws on the State Contract......Pachmayr needs to know that their design specs are too closely-toleranced. Or something.

I have most of the estate sale components sorted and stored now. DANG, that guy had a BUNCH of Lyman 44 caliber Devastator HPs cast and sized @ .431". Five 1# coffee cans full, to give a rough count. Among the items are about a dozen high-line rifle cleaning rods, and with these additions I have a need to create a storage method and area for them and my current tools. I see a trip to the hardware store today or tomorrow to get materials for this upgrade.

heck no.
I can nap anywhere, eat most anything from a can hot or cold, and make stuff fit whether it's supposed to or not.
With those qualifications, all you would need in addition, would be a size 52 chest and size six hat to be a beaver trapper! LOL

Congrats Mac. What you have planned for the future?

Sept. 10, 2021 Steve left us. You are missed.
Well, other than our small farm, casting, shooting, hunting not a heck of a lot. Might help my son a bit with his start up landscaping business, playing with the grandkids (and Miss Patty) may have to do a bit of loafing.

I don't think I could get back down to a 52 chest if I tried.
last time it was that size I was like 17.
might could get the waist back down to 36 without too much trouble though.

well I sat here and watched the Bass Masters for the last 4 days.
they are on Lake Huron, but only allowed to fish the US side of the Border.
the wind had been blowing 20+ mph since last night straight up and across the length of the man lake,, and the waves were rolling something fierce.
only 1-2 guys dared go out on it.
they were also the guys in first and second place.
they milked the broad cast out to the T.V. time limit then wanted me to go on their website to see the final results.

I was in the middle of a small meltdown over it when the G-boy walked in the shop.

Well some months ago I threw down for a Mill, a Precision Matthews PM 25. It's set in the shop, in it's crate until today. Grandson brought me a Cherry Picker and the neighbor and I got it up onto the "stand" it's going to occupy. Tomorrow I will spend most of the day stripping the grease and oil off the table and other parts and hopefully get it Trammed. It's leveled and I'll recheck level tomorrow and hopefully get a project in the queue

Yep, I have had the same model picked out for a while but waiting to see how financially gainful going back to work shapes out to be in the next couple of months before dropping coin that may be needed to feed my kids. I had opted for the power feed over the DRO as a money saving choice, though both would be really nice. Having run a lathe enough feeding the carriage by hand because I was too lazy to change the gears back to cutting rate from a commonly needed thread setup, I think I'd find the power X to be indespensible, particularly for flycutting.

Did I miss the memo on this being the international avatar changing day?
