Okra and Asparagus, I prefer them both raw, as long as they are fresh, very fresh, and not too large.

Asparagus is indeed best eaten right off the knife that cut the shoot, IMO. Much of the commercial stuff is cut too mature and has a bitter taste that goes away when cooked. It's still good. Wife found a "steamer" brand of flash-frozen asparagus that's pretty dang good for what it is. It never occurred to me to try okra raw, may have to try that if I can find some really fresh, small ones that haven't gone woody.

they,, okra plants, have beautiful flowers.
that's as far as i can get them to go here.

i like them sliced 3/8-1/2" thick and fried,,, deep fried with breading.

the one type of asparagus i have here has a slight chocolate under-tone flavor to it when the fall crop comes around.
i know it ain't the purple ones, and they don't have it in the spring.

Middle of asparagus:D season here; cut at 6:00 and at the fruit stand at 9:00 and steamed with mayonnaise at noon!
Never tried asparagus with mayonnaise. We do consume it, occasionally, drizzled with a flavored balsamic vinegar, instead of butter. We do keep black cherry, espresso & a dark chocolate flavored balsamics in the pantry.

slimy interior of boiled/steamed okra Yup, nasty stuff, along with broccolli and brussell sprouts.
Daughter came in yesterday, brought one of her grown pumpkins. Her bees & peanuts seem to be doing OK too. Talked to SIL about decking his pier on the 'lake' and how to add a roof over part of it - wind load problems. He did get hog lights over the feeders so far.

Yup you’re right Farmerjim, little things like Okra Cola.
Guess I’ll just keep on missing. My wife will tell you that I’m missing a lot of things.

Pumpkin is a squash. Deer will eat pumpkins. I watched them eat the ones I put out back after Cindy's done using them for Halloween decorations. Did the same thing in Michigan.
That's my experience as well. The blacktail seemed to like our pumpkins in the garden.

Potatoes are a vegetable, right? Them, corn, peas, beans and tomato pretty much outline the limit of my veggie intake. You're all welcome to the rest of it!
Nope, tomatoes are fruit. Best not to use them in a fruit salad, though. They do make a good smoothie, but most folks call that ketchup.

About the only squash I eat is pumpkin in the form of pie and zucchini preferably breaded and fried.

Mrs. smokeywolf stir fries asparagus with a lot of garlic and a little bit of bacon bits. She also drizzles a little olive oil on them at the very end. We are olive oil snobs and use an organic Moroccan olive oil that we buy in 5 liter tins; buy 2 at a time. Heavy in polyphenols, it helps boost your HDL and rumored to help deter dementia. Mainly, it just plain tastes better than any other olive oil I've ever had.

I stand corrected! I like fruit anyways, lots more than veggies. Cooked carrots simply turn my stomach!!! Or that green bean casserole that looks like dog barf!!!! Nope, meat and potatoes thank you!
