decided to go down shooting today, figured the haze couldn't be any worse down there.
it was slightly less but there was enough to make the whole back round totally grey instead of the usual green brown green blue.
musta been what made me shoot better....LOL
snagged a jug of 700-X for $175 on my way out, and left the Cheddite primers right where they were sitting.
might sorta regret that since the others they had were the punched out ones that have been going for about 9 cents each if you bought like 16K of them at once.

on a side note.
there was about 7 trillion trailers on the road today.
I swear 5 out of 6 vehicles on the road was a pull behind rig from out of state.
I got a good fuzzy look at them as they wizzed past me at about 90 or so,,, glad I ain't buying their gas.

Sorted some 30-06 cases. Just a cursory assessment shows most of my military cases are TW-Twin Cities cases with smaller percentages of LC, DEN, FA SL and U. Found one 1927 FA.
I need to at least double my inventory of 30-06 brass.

$175 for 8# of 700-X is not bad at all, Lamar.

Mama Bear and the girls are on a Girls Weekend Out, Fri-Mon in Chandler, AZ, so I have been left to my own devices as far as eating, entertainment, and diversions are concerned. I did join that shooting club in Perris on Saturday, it has a decent 100 yard rifle bay with GREAT benches......but no shade. E-Z Up for the win, as long as the wind behaves itself.

Today wasn't real hot (about 90*) so I went through my new and tumbled/cleaned fired brass waiting on my shelves to re-acquaint myself with its status and identity. DANG, there is a bunch to fill/refill--303 Brit, 30-06, 8 x 57, 348, both 357 and 38 Special, and a BUNCH of 45 ACP. I have been enjoying that 625 pretty frequently, and the P-220 almost as much. That 1100+ pieces of R-P 45 ACP brass is getting considerable exercise since its arrival. Yes, I ADORE that 625. The supply of .452 castings is getting depleted apace, so the foundry will need a re-start before much longer. How unfortunate.

yeah I figured it wasn't bad since before [you know] I was giving about 165 a jug for most powders with the 700-X being a little bit less. [and the last powder I seen was 200]
I don't really shoot it in shotgun loads [but can if I gotta] so at the 4-5grs. per I generally burn it up,,, I think it'll be here a while.

oh.....
forgot.
I watched a bright shiny B-17 fly around in circles for about 20-30 minutes today.
didn't have a camera or I woulda took some pictures of it lumbering into the air and coming in for a landing.
it's no wonder the 8th. army had the highest death rate of any combat group back in the day.
I coulda emptied the shotgun, reloaded, and got in another round in the time it took for it to make a circling turn past me.

Sounds like Aluminum Overcast. I rode on that one, quite a thrill. They lumber around at just above the minimum maneuvering speed to try and make stuff last. You'd have a hell of a time connecting with one going 200 mph at 32,000' unless you had an 88mm "shotgun".

Yesterday's breakfast was home made biscuits and sausage gravy. Whenever we make that we let the neighbor kid know ahead of time. He texted back and asked if we could shoot after breakfast and I said of course.

We moved to the 80 yard rails where there are 10 prairie dogs, 10 five inch x five inch diamonds, and 10 four inch by 4 inch diamonds and shot them off hand. We used two of my .22's. One is a Kidd Super Grade 10-22 clone, bull barrel in a Victor Titan stock with the superb Kidd two stage trigger, I think it is set at about 14 oz. first stage and 8 0z. second stage. The other rifle is a Bergara B-14 Trainer with a 6" barrel extension screwed on for a little more weight up front. Both rifles have Leupold Mark AR Mod-1 6x18 Mil-Dot scopes, ammo was Aqulia Super Extra SV.

While I did not exactly get my butt kicked, I was soundly beaten early on as the Kid ran 14 straight, (5 P-dogs and 5 5x5 diamonds, and 4 4x4 diamonds), in a row. It was an impressive display. I was running right around 8 out of 10. As we began our second run of 30 targets I notice the Kid began to actually miss once in awhile. Muscle fatigue even on a well muscled young man that works in the concrete industry and lifts weights.
I actually hit a few more targets than he did right at the end with a couple of runs of 5 and a run of 6 straight. I had just about talked myself out of getting a TT Diamond two stage trigger for the Bergara until I shot the Kidd again, so controllable.

We visited and cleaned the rifles. This young man's Grandpa is the nearly 80 year old man that got run over by the tractor earlier in the week. Well Grandpa is home recuperating, but he is a hurtin' unit.

The Kid stuck around and we had lunch and B'Essed and are seriously considering a duck hunting trip to the Texas Gulf coast maybe in December. North Dakota sloughs are drying up and the last two times we went we were having access problems as more guides were leasing up everything. I think he'd have stuck around all day but I wanted to get Sue's butt on the motorcycle as she has gotten shorted lately. After he left Sue and I put on about 120 miles before returning home for Sunday Pizza Supper.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
it's been kinda hot here.
so I've been spending more time than usual in the house and surfing the interwebs.
one of my favorite past times is FB marketplace, I can surf through the For Sale ads for hours.

Speaking of chain saws, I've frequently said the main saw I use is a Stihl MS360 PRO, I bought it new in 2001 (a new version today is around $800)...and I've previously said, that this spring I stumbled into a minty but old Stihl 034 Super for $275, I bought it as a backup to the 360 (it's almost the same saw).
Anyway today, I seen listed on FB, a minty old 036 (not the PRO version) it was listed for $200. I would have jumped on it, but figure I don't need a third saw that size.
You will never get your "Chainsaw Acquisition Disease" going with thinking like that! Chainsaws are like moulds, you can NEVER have too many!!!

I've only two chainsaws, almost bought a new Stihl about a year ago. Bought it on a Friday afternoon, that store closes on Saturday at noon. Went out to use my new saw Saturday afternoon and spent all afternoon and most of Sunday pulling on the rope trying to get it started. Returned it Monday morning. Kinda cured me of needing more than two.

Brett, Those old blue XL 12s were some tough saws.
They were one of the best home owners saws made.
You could hardly hurt them as long as you kept mixed gas in them.

Hi, my name in Jon Baldwin and I am a stockpile-aholic.
...and it seems I am constantly fighting the piling up more stuff. I made some big inroads to a cure this year and I can't look back...Gotta keep with decluttering of my life.

Today,
We got a bit of rain this morning, just enough to jack-up the humidity. They are talking extra hot, humid weather for the next three days. I fired up the AC unit in the reloading room, I hope I don't get side tracked, I'd like to tackle another big batch of 9mm.

Zepp is copper sulfate crystals. When it turns white the H2O is gone, ONLY then stir it into the alloy, else tinsel fairy. Do not breathe in the very fine grey/brown powder gunk (dispose in trash). I usually drip candle wax to absorb it and flux the alloy real good. Scrape/stir the side of the pot a lot, bring up to casting temp for 1/2 hr, then cast. I've not had any fillout problems and I don't use any tin. Thank Fiver and BadgerEdd for getting me started on this stuff.

Went out and harvested cherries this morning. Probably be doing that for the next week or two. Hope to get back to sorting and processing 30-06 brass today.
Need to solder a new cord onto the LE Wilson case trimmer. Bunch of the '06 brass needs trimming.

Done had my fill of doctor visits between my wife his and me. At least I got my self out of the way today, except for a filling.
Got my diabetes- "well check" follow up today. Tested good on all tests. A1c a 7 not great but not bad either, best it has been in a couple years. Lost weight too.
Been feeling like blaugh.
Thought I might have lead poisoning so got lead tested plus a couple others the doc wanted. No readable lead... But...
He caught a bacteria infection, so a shot and pills. Staying out of sunlight till pills are gone.kinda make me sick a bit.
Might just be feeling frisky again before my vacation starts Friday.

California's Central Coast Amid The Insanity
Results from this morning's range session:

The .223 Ruger American, CFE 223 and Hornady's 68-grain HPBT are blissfully and permanently mated.

Not so with the hard-headed, scouterized Swede, 2400 and Lyman's 266469. I thought another 2400 test session might persuade the 120-year-old biddy to change her mind, but she didn't budge from her past dislike of the power.

talking about chain saws I found a website that sell Stihl saws in kit form.
Do not much other than maybe when retired it might be fun to build one from kit or not.
