I quit in 2012 after slowing down from a pack a day habit. Went to rolling Norwegian shag (Drum) near the end, back to how I started. Miss the pipe with a good Latakia blend, too. Still keep some Sail in a potporri box in the gun room, just for the memories.

Do you realize cigarettes are like $8/pack now? I quit right when they started putting those "burnout" points in them to stop folks burning down their houses falling asleep with one going in the ash tray.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
I will state unequivocally that if there is one thing I'm glad I never got hooked on, it's tobacco! There are enough other issues in the world to deal with without having that monkey on my back!!!

Gord is out on porky patrol, trying to keep the otherwise inoffensive creatures from killing off more of our Sugar Maples. We drug up a bunch of trunk wood from the landing and got it up by the splitter. I got the JD420 crawler up to the garage in preparation for surgery. Cindy is sick as a dog and I'm going to hang close for the rest of the day. I'm betting she has the Wuhan Flu again. If so, this will make episode #3 or 4 despite all the shots, masking, etc. Some vaccine!

Been watching a lot of You Tube machining videos. I despise Google/Alphabet.com, but sadly YT is where the video content is. I'm hoping Rumble makes some inroads, but right now YT has the high ground. Anyhoo, I'm seeing that there have been a great deal of advancements made on the home shop level from when I was last really looking at it. People have computer controlled plasma cutters and lathes in their home shops now! And to think that when I took a machine shop course for adults in the evening just a couple years back, (1985-ish?). the CNC machines of the day were using a paper strip thingy for commands! Times have changed. Seems like everyone has a milling machine too. Amazing. I keep seeing references to "Shars" and "Banggood", so I looked them up. Looks to be Chinese made stuff, but they seem to be the big players. I dunno, it's a bit overwhelming for me at this point. But dang man, I love having something new in my shop! :D

Smoked a carton a week for 26 years. A case of pneumonia helped me cure my tobacco habit. That was almost 25 years ago. For several years, had the occasional nightmare that I had started again.

Bret,
Shars makes some very usable tooling.

As a high school Teen, my buddies and I would smoke ceegars, drink beer, and play poker. There was probably 10 or 15 poker nights total? That's the extent of my smoking history.
BUT, that doesn't include the smoke-filled bars I've been in...those number of nights isn't very high either, mostly went if there was a live band.

Miss Having Rum crooks, with a stout glass of brandy. But I know 1 puff and I would be right back at it. I prefer to breath.
I and the wife quit in 2014. 2 pack Camels and a cigar a day. Plus would run thru cans of Yellow River when I could not smoke for some reason.
Got a coupon in the mail for 25 off on a carton of Marlboros last week. Gave it to a guy at work. When I quit I could still get smokes for about 25 a carton.
Did not really save anything by quiting our cigarette money just goes to gun stuff for me and shoes- clothes for her.

Siting here having smoked, slow cooked, pulled Venison on Ritz crackers. Rocco (my butt head Chihuahua) is helping my out with that.

Mail lady called a little bit ago said she left a package in her truck.( They drive their personal vehicles on our route) Said she can bring it over, if I really needed it. I was kind of wondering about it saying it was delivered yesterday an not in the package box. Told her never mind just deliver it tomorrow.

Never was a smoker and don’t drink much either.

Junk food and Diet Coke are my vices. Just as bad for me too.

Bread, good bread that is, with some body, crust and preferably home made and oatmeal raisin cookies are my weakness. And PIE!!! Any kind of decent pie and I'm a total push over. Not the worst vices in the world, but they sure do make your belt tight!

Thanks Smokey, got a Shars catalog enroute. I can see where a guy could spend an exorbitant amount of moola on lathe related toys. I just saw a little 6", used, Bison chuck on an auction site- holy smokes! They must be really good!

Shars is a place I have spent some money.

I find the lathe to be far less speedy to tooling than the mill. Not cheap by any means but the mill screams for so much more for part holding and the tooling varies so much.

We buy a lot of stuff from Shars. Just got two tool holders and some inserts for the manual lathe from them. If its in stock I usually get my orders in two-three days. Pretty happy with them.

I need to kick the alcohol habit. I drink way too much. Have for years. Sad thing is. I don’t want to…

To drink or to stop?

I did enough drinking in college. Very little these days, maybe a beer or glass of wine with dinner but not much else.

I started smoking, and drinking, at about 12 years old. Not much supervision, and not too damn smart. I drank to excess, regularly, until I hit bottom at age 25 - 1983. Went to my first AA meeting, and gave the problem over to God - no more problem. Haven't had a drop since. Took me another 20 years to do the same thing with the cigarettes - and cigars. I had more problem with quitting smoking, than I did with the alcohol. It didn't help that it took my wife another 5 years before she quit too.
Congratulations to all here who have quit, it ain't easy!!
