Another hot humid rainy, off and on day. Was able to break up the lumps in two of the garden beds ...rake flat and put in 3 chillies plus plant some red beets seeds ....in and around the chillies! The beets will be harvested before the growing peppers interfere with their sunlight. My large circular garden is super fertile and can be planted intensively. The 3 chillies are "Grenika" a Spanish frying pepper, which I first grew last season. It is a very tasty pepper when fried in olive oil...a Tapas favorite in Spain,. A Hungarian pepper called Bacskaii Feher a yellow pepper, way tastier than our bell peppers!, and a Hatch Valley favorite, Big Jim!....these peppers are huge and I roast them to get the skin off ..It is very tough. They develop a tasty smoked taste and are great in chili and Chili Rellenos!
Since our garden pond pretty much evaporated this week, I was able to get the muck & leaves out of it, fill it and flush the pond out to get the water crystal clear! The cats of the "ranch' are all lounging around it now!

Mowed ahead of the storm . Got a little tickle , looks like the nasty is going north west of us . We're under a cloud mass but have 270° of blue skies moving to the northish and breaking up .

I don't know what I'm going to do for iron next weekend . Going to a boys club thing to burn some powder .

flippin hot today, it probably got all the way to 70 this afternoon.

i was trying to work in the shade of the green house for a while and then trying to get under the plum trees that have no leaves on them yet.
it didn't work, i ruined a perfectly good shower and my shirt/pants were wringing wet by about 10 am.

the asparagus box got weeded as good as it's getting, since i got to a point where i was tearing up more spears than i was getting the roots out from the weeds.

i set up a cardboard table out under the crabby apple tree to up plant the green beans [and some tiny acorn squash plants] which are root bound and trying to put some tiny beans on already.
two of the drunken monkeys drug my expanded metal outside table over right next to it and started cutting potato chunks to be planted in Cody's spot.
umm how's about a board so i don't have to sharpen that knife for the next 2 or 3 days?

oh well i got the bottom garden under control finally, and a hell of a sunburn in the process.
i think tomorrow i'm gonna tear out a chunk of the fence and replace the end post, or just drop it lower and throw some cement around it.
then get out the stuff to make a flip top cover for the third box that's gonna get the bell peppers in it here in another month or so.

RB, where did you find the degree symbol to use? Is that on a phone program? I can't figure how to get one on my laptop.

A while back I posted we had a power surge here and spent some time, in the dark, searching for a "hot plastic" smell. Well, I found it yesterday while trying to determine why my window fan wouldn't run.surge.jpg I'm still not sure about the TV/video player that were attached to that surge protector. The player is a DVD/VHS combo, getting more difficult to find now. It hasn't been used in a long, long time, but it would bother me if I couldn't watch my old VCR's if I wanted to.

I had planned on making it to church yesterday. Things just piled up and it was not to be. I did manage to get more than half the lawn mowed- it was pretty shaggy! I still have to hit the parts that haven't had their first mowing yet! Also found I was short on water hose ends and I needed at least a couple of male/female electrical ends for some extension cords Matt brought home from work. Seems if the ends need replacing or if there's a nick in the jacket they have to toss them!!! Insanity! I had to pick up a small practice amp I'd located locally on line anyway in the afternoon, so I hit the big city and got it all. The amp is a little Fender Frontman, just right for an old dude that insists on trying to play a guitar despite a lack of talent, short fingers and arthritis. $15.00, my kind of buy!

Cindy advised me last night just before she went to bed that she has reserved a puppy for me from The Angels litter of Goldens. Not sure I'm good with that or not. Not that I don't like dogs, or that I wouldn't like to have an excuse to go pop a couple ducks in the swamp. I just don't know if I have the time. But SHE wants a puppy and I may be the excuse she needs. She wants a big light colored female, Matt wants me to get a big darker male. How do I end up in these situations?

Plan was to start on dock stanchion repairs, today. Made them 30 years ago out of rigid conduit and they are finally starting to dissolve. Got a start when it started to sprinkle as I was hauling the lead and Sawzall out to the lakefront to trim off the rotten ends. Bad-ass storms headed our way so rather than scramble at the last minute, decided to call it quits until the storms pass.

Hot Muggy Day with severe thunderstorm warnings! They storms held off enough for me to prepare two more beds in the big garden & I planted a "Rain Forrest" pepper! Also planted more Red Beets and a large style radish called German Giant"
It is already too hot to plant more Lettuce, Spinach, Arugula and Kohlrabi ( which should have been planted in late March and April) So I will miss those crops until my Fall planting! Just have one more bed to turn & prepare in the big garden....May be able to get some tomatoes in tomorrow!

They are not toys, there are working equipment and the older we get the handier they are. My wife loves our UTV, and even more when I replaced our 11 year old one last Spring with another one with power steering. In particular, it is the dump box that has endeared itself to Sue. No trailer backing. Garden waste, yard waste, making wood, hauling deer, hauling maple sap, hauling mulch, the chores these handy little machines can help you with are endless. We have one of each, ATV UTV and each excels at different chores.

Oh yeah, spraying, seeding, pulling a lawn roller, pulling a section of fine drag, skidding logs, there's a winch on the ATV and we have used it for some creative solutions. Work smarter not harder.

We don't use ours to play, we have a motorcycle for that.

Took Sue and my buddy Jimmy out for the end of the white bass run today and the peak has definitely passed. We dredged up about 20 with me running the boat for Sue and Jimmy and I only fished when Sue's wrist needed a rest.Got a couple of short walleyes and a sheepshead too. Beautiful day except for the wind. Straight out of the North running with the river current and boat control was a pain while trolling, and line control was worse for casting. North wind and high pressure is not my favorite fishing weather but time constraints rule.

My first shooter will arrive with his camping trailer on Wednesday so I'm done fishing until next week. We need to start food prep. My wife is wisely taking off with two of the other shooter's wives for some "girl time." Oh Lordy, that means the guys will be unsupervised. No doubt we will screw up something.
