they might have punched it out to 30-08 that was super common, and a real good idea at the time considering 8mm ammo was harder to get than 5mm Remington is now.

I have seen some stuff done to 20$ rifles that was quite a surprise when I figured things out.

Wasn't the 1890 chambered in 7.65X53, like the 1891 Argentine?

Was supposed to be a 7.65 x 53 variant of some kind, a lot were re-chambered to 7.92 X 57. A previously owned one, I had, was. But this one had been done more recent. And maybe a little bolt face work.

Winner, winner, chicken dinner!
Oscar, tomorrow I will send Brad a check for your 2012 membership renewal.
Memories from your Ft. Ord days?

I think the picture points out something that does not come across on television, and that is the double apex.

1. THANX!!!!!!!!! - and Brad - enjoy!
2. YES YES YES Ft Ord memory days! I have been to LS track. 7th ID Light '90-'91; helped start the close down process. AND hunted in the hills on old Ft Ord overlooking the track - a lot - including sitting up in the hills and watching racing (AND ALMOST getting zapped by a brown skunk; and hearing and possibly being stalked by a mtn lion/did run into one in the mtns south where we hunted hog/deer)! And 18 mo driving old hiway 68 from Salinas (where I lived at the time) the back way to Presidio of Monterey, where I had my Co Cmd! Some of about the ONLY things I enjoyed about my 3 yr station in CA/Monterey.
3. the apex wasn't the dead giveaway for me. the complete double back was. I knew LS had WICKED turns and elevations. Been almost 30 years, but that pic/turn just SCREAMED at me! simple google of LS track layout, and then pic of turn #2 and sealed the deal!

Brown grass, here, too.

LOTTSA LOTTSA brown grass at LS and on the back hills of old Ft Ord! A lot of years, more than most other places. But when it DOES rain and gets foggy, can be damned green and beautiful. True to that coldest 'winters' can be Summer there. Seen 65 deg/rolling wet fog in July and wearing a wool sweater! Also loved the Black Widow spiders used to run into there. I know, I am kinda sick in some ways... The BW hourglass was the 7th ID(L) patch - they have a special place in my heart! Spent lotta time in those hills, as well as at Ft Bob and Hunter Liggett. Hogs/Black Widows/Mtn Lions/fleas with the Black Plague (and YES, Virginia, I HAVE been vaccinated for the BP: I AM cleared to hunt in China!!!)/brown Tarantulas at Bob and HL. The track pic obviously floated a LOT of old memories to the surface! Thanx again 462!

Ah, ha, the old Google crutch trick.
Fortunately, Oscar, I'm a nice guy, otherwise I'd rescind the free renewal offer.

lol! gotta know where to start. I was pretty certain I recognized it as LS. Been almost 30 yrs since I was there, so looked at a track map to find the turn and the pic nailed it for sure. I woulda said LS (couldn't have given you the turn #) straight out regardless.

Well, checked into "hotel california" 6AM. Woke in recovery 11:30 AM, tech wanted me to cough(? dang). Found instead of going home when I went to pre-op, she ran the AC in the car till the battery died. Got released at 4:pM. Can't leave till you pee. Yup, after a jump start, ran fast idle/AC till then. They don't listen!! Graham crackers and red jello for dinner. Some short 'spurts' so far. Male nurse told me he'd show me how to remove the 'tube' if I wanted. Then I told him how they did it in the old days. No tube, no bag (but a 'free' pillow) for home. Sore throat, side, doc said it was 'past time ' to get it removed, but no complications. Hosp wasn't really that busy, ~ 10 in recovery during my stay, several had 'hall passes' and got out early.
One corporate guy I worked with ran L.S. ended his corvette racing days. Decreasing radii downhill turn?

I coughed up chunks of my trachea in a big wad of phlegm after waking up, but it sure beats a slug of whiskey and a green stick to bite while being cut up. Glad it's over and you're ok, enjoy those free pillows!

Around here the saying is " corn is knee high by the forth of July" On the 4th my corn was chest high. We are ripe with anticipation.

Oh MAN - THAT brings back sweet memories! Grew up in N Indiana! If it wasn't knee high by 4th, gonna be a bad year! I bet I recall that about a dozen times every 4th when I see a corn field!
