The 350 Legend

eh... another 300 BO fad... On and off that wagon quick. Have a 35 Rem, was going to bore a 38-55, UNTIL I ran into a BLR in 358 Win I could NOT pass up. I am good!

PS: been seeing the 35 Legend headlines for a week or more. Just tonight, saw a 300 Legend. Assume it is a pseudo 30-30 on AR, like 35 is pseudo 35 Rem on AR... I am way over the AR platform outside of a 223... I REALLY like/prefer levers!

So it's a stretched Win 9mm mag , from 1.16 to 1.710 , so .550 . It'd probably shoot at way lower pressure with either a proper groove or proper bullets ....... Might even shoot better . There's not really that much difference between 147 and 158 ......

I have a 351 and some original factory ammo.
I guess before I get all amped up over this round I should haul it out and run it over the chronograph.
the biggest complaint about the 351 was the 22 lb rifle and the ridiculous recoil,, for 357 mag ballistics.

I'm going to be in on a buy of barrels and im really going to try and convince the group to let me redesign the throat and run a .357 barrel. As of now it won't touch a 35-200 RCBS due to the bore ride section. That's a pitty as it launches 200's at 2100-2200 fps from a 20" barrel

The initial throat is nice at 0.3575" then it tapers down to 0.355" over 0.1575" for a total length of 0.2575"

okay so I got this slight amount of bore ride 9mm bullet with a little tapered alignment section right in front of the band that weighs about 130grs.
wouldn't about 2600 fps be a bit too far out of reach though.

If you could check it, no that seems on par. The 180's are supposed to go 2400 fps.

it might do even better.
I think I have some 90gr powRballs kicking around somewhere, they hit pretty impressive speeds in the pistols.
I never even thought about trying some in the maximum just to see.

I've been thinking.....

If CZ started chambering their 527 Carbine in this, I'd be looking for something to sell. The caliber and case volume are a great combination regardless of the unfortunate moniker. I have a 357 Max Contender Carbine, but I really love the little CZs. I live in one of those "straight-wall" states and that adds to the allure.

A 35 Remington, 35-30-30 or 358 Winchester would be cool, but I don't have one of those and wouldn't be able to hunt deer here with them.

Just find a cheap 527 in 223 and spin on a new barrel. It's a direct swap.

"Cheap 527?"

I get what you're saying but I'm on what is basically a fixed income and those days are done for me. BUT, there is some appeal to your idea in that I could have the barrel stamped "358x54!":D

Or send it off to JES for a rebore?

Been ther and won't do that again. I will say no more.

Well, you could find a Mini Howa and go that route, as far as JES, your barrel wouldn't be big enough to run a 35 cal hole through it anyway. Honestly if you wanted to experiment on the cheap a Savage Axis in 223 would fit that bill.

or a Ruger American in 300 BO. on the used market.

I'm havin a feeling that this might replace the 300 for those that kind of like the round but want that little bit more.

I quickly skimmed through this thread...and didn't see what I'm about to ask.
Did I hear (from another source) that one of the current levergun manufacuturers was considering putting out a levergun in this caliber...what I recall hearing was NOT 350 legend, but I heard 357 Max rimless.
...maybe it was just facebook gossip?

it would be folly to even attempt this in a lever gun, the head spacing would really be a pain, the mag tube cut off would have to be reworked.
whereas the rimmed version would be a snap, they already have the cartridge stop, the feed rails are set and the barrel would just have to be moved forward a titch to make them feed.
plus the bolt faces/extractors already exist.
there is a reason why the 30 carbine lever guns are so rare, the 350 would just be a bigger re-work than they were.

I will be floored if Ruger doesn't bring out their American Ranch in this new offering.
