Weird, thunder storm around 2:30 am, warm, cold, wet, sunny, calm, windy, then very windy. Wind warnings, 30 to 40 mph gusts. What?

Today, we're under a red flag warning because of the high winds, expected, and very low humidity.

Cold front moved in today, highs in low 50's lows in the 30's. It is supposed to hold for a couple of weeks. Just in time, heading North to the UP next week to sit in some trees and try to skewer buck or two. My favorite time of year.

The last few days have had light sprinkles and 10-15 minutes of rain in the afternoon and early evening. Last night we got RAINED ON--THREE TIMES. Real actual rain, not the sissy-la-la usual California showers. Most excellent. In drought reduction terms, it's like shaving hair from an elephant--but I'll accept it.

The month of October brings clear skies, daytime temperatures in the mid 70s, overnights in the 50s, and nothing more than a gentle daytime breeze. Except this year. The first 16 days were no different than any of the Summer months, what with their June gloom. Yesterday morning there was a sunrise, a clear sky, a gentle breeze, and a sunset. Perfect for our local motorhome get-away. The picture doesn't do justice to last night's sunset.

Was a little chilly this morning. 27*F at 0600 hrs.

Nearly all leaves off Locust and Walnut trees. Oaks still sport 80% of their leaves, but turning rust colored. Have to get mowed around Thanksgiving just to chop up the leaves.
