What is your weather today?

Stopped in Needles for the night when the temperature was 116. The room air conditioning probably kept the temperature down to a very miserable 90.

I know a guy who moved to Laughlin, Nevada, because he enjoys the heat. Current temperature is 118.

High, here, today was 79, thankfully missing the scheduled high of 81.

The two local fires, River and Carmel, are 100% contained, but there's a little smoke drifting about from various hot and smoldering spots. The Dolan Fire is only 40% contained, and some of its smoke may be drifting here, too.

In the 1980's, I did a week exchange with another officer on the Phoenix AZ fire department in June. I amazed me all the old people sitting around in the parks and walking the streets in wool sweaters and jackets when the temperature was 100+.

Well, today was not QUITE as hot as yesterday. It topped out at 115*, and humidities are under 10%. THAT can be dangerous. Dry hot air isn't as oppressive as humid hot air, and calls for heat illness REALLY spike under these conditions.

So does fire behavior. Of course another one lit off locally, a bit north and west of the Apple Fire last month. This one is called the El Dorado Fire; it may be on USFS' Inciweb site now. They just ordered the evacuation of more of the Yucaipa north bench, which includes the area we lived right after Marie and I married. Heat, fires, earthquakes, now crowds and freeway gridlock. I guess it's better than tornadoes and hurricanes--although both are possible here as well.

Summer is over here in MN.
50º and rain today and the same is predicted for tomorrow as well.
...It's kind of funny, 50º and rain (after a week of 80+ degree humid weather) is about as cold as it gets in MN...I'll likely be avoiding being outside, plus I'll likely be firing up the woodstove, >>> BUT give me 50º and sun in Feburary in MN and I'm outside in the snow, playing/working wearing a short sleeved T-shirt o_O

A scheduled 84 today. Yesterday was scheduled to be 84, also, but it reached 90. Miserable.

Still smokey.

The weather has not been kind to me this summer. As Mondays and Tuesdays are my off work, work outside days.
Seems just about everyday off since June , It has either been above 85, where I am not allowed outside for extended periods. Or it has rained.
Was Planning to mow grass today, and paint.
It was good enough to squirrel hunt a little and mow grass last week. I mowed it high, should have dropped the mower down and skimmed it, looks like a wheat field already.
It has rained and looks like more on the way.

We have similar folks in the Low Desert. Out golfing in 110*+ weather, and gardeners working through the heat of the day even here. More power to 'em, I guess. Only mad dogs and Englishmen go about in the midday sun. Point of fact--if I'm to be out in direct sunlight dove hunting or fishing, I often wear a long-sleeved light chambray shirt to reduce sun exposure, and a big boonie hat with it. I don't get sunburned nearly as badly, but it's a trade-off. If you have water to spare, pouring some on the shirt sleeves can be VERY COOLING, with a little breeze under way.

Very cloudy and smoky today, thanks to the El Dorado Fire. Cal-Fire put out info on the fire's cause and origin last night--a colored-smoke pyrotechnic device was initiated at a gender-reveal party held at a private camp in Oak Glen (El Dorado Park), its heat ignited vegetation, and the current scorecard sits at 8,600 acres and 7% containment. What part of RED FLAG WARNING did these fools not understand? Do a Zoom meeting next time. The parents-to-be can pay for suppression costs for the rest of their lives now. IDJITS.

Today's high is set to be a frosty 103*, and it's 95* now (11:30 A.M.). That's probably a reasonable estimate. Gonna try to get some odd lots of fired handgun brass refilled today, to include some 9mm brass that the kids fired on their last visit--Winchester White Box. Maybe W-W got their act together since the last lot of this dreck I tried to rassle with, tight-pocketed %^$# that it is. We'll see.

Allen,
Read about that fire's origin, this morning. A gender party is another example of modern stuff I don't understand.

'Do it on Facebook during fire season' is my response. It's another sweet Hallmark holiday thing dreamed up to sell party supplies, as best I can tell. A spin-off of the ultra-sound & sonogram technology now common in the medical world.

We are getting a break on heat today--only 92* here, and 27% humidity. The garage recreation is about to commence.

Managed to get to the woods overnight, but only because I had to bring the RV home. It was cool enough I didnt take the generator for a/c, and slept with all the windows and screen door open. And needed a blanket about 3 AM. Can't wait for it to get much cooler.

Social media has created a society full of vapid people. They substitute adoration for people they often have not met for real relationships.
