Except for Mammoth those are all within 90 minutes and 60 miles of Reno NV .
For those of you with a snow problem I hope this makes you feel better about "just" 10-12 ft . As a quick reference , I know you know this , 480" is 40 feet 600 is 50 .

they could have 80 feet up there and California will still be under water restrictions and in a drought by june.
easier to steal water[and money] than to manage what you have.
I haven't even looked to see what we have up where they measure the snow in the meadow.

today was the annual case lot sale at both grocery stores here in town.
now let me clear this up, yes we have 2 grocery stores.
one has the ace hardware in it, it's owned by a couple of brothers and has about 10 stores in the chain.
the other is a small family owned one store unit that has been open continuously for 100 years now.
they happen to sit right next to each other and are the focal point in town.

both of them put out a little newspaper type flyer with their sales ad's in it once a week, only you have to go to the store to get it.. LOL.
now I know for a fact they both have the newspaper place print their flyers, but neither one is available in the weekly paper.
anyhow today was the day.
they put out their flyers for their sale and we picked one up from each place to double check their prices.
we found 2 things not the same price and oddly not available at either place, neither place had canned Beets other than what they had on the shelf although they were advertised on the sale.
so I complained to the assistant manager at the first store [also known as the son in law] and spoke to the manager at the second store [AKA my oldest daughters boss] and had her order me 2 cases which will be picked up by the girl next week.

anyhow I told the wife to keep it around 200$ which she sort of did at the first place.
only exceeding that by 75$ and then almost going to 200$ again at the second place [gonna be real close with the 2 cases of Beets]
I guess I need to be a lot more clear with the 200$ part next time.

Breeding, smokeywolf. Way down deep in those genes, a thousand generations of border collies
doing that job until it is literally hard wired into them. Very cool to hear about. Talk about OCD,
they are probably thinking, "I just HAVE TO get these damned horses organized and put away!"

Had friends of my parents in VA who were dairy farmers. Not an easy life. Dad and I went over one
Christmas Eve to fix their milking system. The cam system which ran all the pumps and valves wasn't
working properly and they couldn't get it to wash out the system like is should, wash pump was not
running. They would lose a huge amount of milk in the morning if they couldn't flush it that night,
and no service guy to call late on Christmas Eve. We figured out the system and got it flushed, and
showed them how to trip the microswitch to do it on Christmas Day until the real repairman could
get there. Diarying is a hard life, about like having one foot nailed to the floor, you can move as
far as you want, in a circle, around that nailed down foot. The cows HAVE to be milked, and you
MUST be there, no excuses, ever.

462, yep, but it will all run out to sea, unfortunately.

Removing subfloor. Not fun, 3 layers. Good thing I stopped for a 4' wrecking bar.

Tough work to be sure. Part of the problem is age.... no,not getting older. Nope,it's when a guy is about 40 sumthin. Let's say he's been a "bruiser",well built, fully vested in hand to hand construction. On an extremely tough job like ripping up underlayment, you HAVE to watch your muscle heat..... isn't a dang bit different from a professional athlete.

Except, athletes start and are hopefully trained on how to properly stretch and warm up. Bustin a$$ on a construction project? Warming up?.... what's that, cracking jokes in the Mickey D line waiting for coffee?

So no stretching beyond cup to mouth... just dive right in. Muscles get up to operating temp.... stay at it pretty much all day. Then muscles cool down, way too fast..... but you're so happy about all that blankety flooring you got up that there's still a grin on your face. Then the pain hits.

My favorite bar is one of dad's. I keep it on a really tight leash,no loaning out. 2" wide blade that's about 10" or so long, backed up with a little over 5' shank handle. We have construction bars, rigging bars, railroad bars,yadayada..... and that 5' flat jobby is my favorite.

Talking about "bruiser" pain...

Coco, the shop dog sailed off our side porch on a "pee run" a cpl days ago. She either, folded the front paw.... under, or the other way? In either case,it's a torn or sprained something. Kinda caught me off guard because well, just didn't occur that it happens?

So anyway, she's stuck in a purgatory of.... do I limp around and try to heal----- or---- just keep running around like the puppy? She chooses the latter.

Yesterday a.m. wifey is helping get some wood straight because of the 3" of forecasted snow..... dog is dinking around playing puppy. She came hauling butt and jumps and...... yup, hits me with the same paw. Booom, big whimper and then hits the ground. Set her back another cpl days, doh. But you talk about painful......

She's on house arrest and only outside on a leash.

Border Collies, had a couple and an Australian Shepherd, which I'm told is aherding dog that was developed in the USA! Who knows. We ahd one dog that was a circler, one that had "eye" and was a creeper and one that really wanted to please you. But we never got all 3 requirements in one body. Good dogs though.

Gotta separate a Pyrenees from his collar today. Seems his hair has over grown it. One of the problems of dogs that don't require much human contact. Supposed to warm up!

Sept. 10, 2021 Steve left us. You are missed.
I've had Border Collies much of my life, great dogs. Have my first Aussie now, great natural stock dog as well. Handy to have when you have stock.

Healers, border collies, aussie, etc. While training is a good thing, the working breeds seem to look for a job to do and just handle it.
We had an Australian shepherd that observed the wife swatting a new to us cat that was scratching the couch. Misty took over that job all by herself. She would nip any cat that attempted to scratch the furniture. She never bothered the cats other than enforcing that rule. The sheep and goats were brought in every night without a word from us. (Small hobby farm, usually around 15 to 20 critters.)

I had a blue heeler Lab cross years back.
she wasn't much of a hunting dog other than running over to the bird and standing on a wing until I got there.
I was okay with that, it saved me a lot of looking.

what she was good at was running, and at herding cows.
all I had to do was point and say put the cow [or horse if it got out] away and she was off.
our cows got put back in our pasture, and the neighbors got put back in theirs.
I don't know how she knew which was which cause I didn't, but they looked like the same ones we both started with.
the funny thing was she wouldn't do it for anyone else.

I have had a couple of other dogs that were good at herding.
I had a Chessie that was the best sheep dog I ever had, but was definitely goona get kicked or stomped if he was around a horse.
his daughter and her mom [a silver Lab] were both real good cow dogs.
all three were super good bird dogs [the Pup was the best of the three for grouse and pheasants]
them knowing hand signals come into play and was real handy.

2 g kids, 2 border collies. They mostly eat (ribs) and play sports. She did get them into a game of clue tonite. Folks are in Florida for some sales award meeting. Border collies and aussies - never stop moving - tennis ball retrievers. Well, the she does, had a large tumor removed from left ankle nerve sheaf. If it doesn't heal the leg comes off. The other (guy) learned to pee in the house. Other than being allergic to long hair dogs, they are sweet.

Today was the sixth consecutive day i forced myself not to do anything. I don't thick i have ever volintarilly spent this much time doing nothing.
Last Saturday afternoon at 3 pm I was struck with a case of influenza. By 4 i was on the couch not being able to move because of pain thruout my body. Dr has had 2 visits ER 1 visit for a headache that was ready to take the top of my head off. I have had Migrains all of my life and only1 has been as bad as this latest one.
And the wife says i probably have another week to look forward to of just sitting.

Kevin, rest is vital. I know it's hard but sometimes just sitting is a good thing. Better than a hospital for sure! Hope you feel better soon!

Dogs. I'm a slave to SWMBO's house dogs. One old (ancient) Beagle is at the point where if she gets up, it's time to open the door or I'm going to be cleaning up a mess. Kind of makes getting stuff done a bit of a struggle some days.

We got the Pyrenees and his collar separated. Hair grew right over it and he had an infection. Cleaned it out good and trimmed the hair there. Now he wears a harness while tied and healing. Really can't wait to get him out with the herd, he's not real great to handle, incredibly strong. But he's not got a mean bone in his body that I can see.

Stupid time change! Why do we go through this? Tradition or something? It makes no sense any more. Must be someone making money off it somewhere.

Supposed to be up in the 40's here today, but breezy and snowing now.

Got the Escape home. Going to try to clean that leaky cover and seal it with some epoxy or JB Weld or something. Just need to get a couple weeks out of it.

Was 73 degrees, yesterday afternoon...................but near gale force winds after almost an inch of rain, before noon. Rick and I cut more wood, from the garage building site. One more day, of that, left.

While resting last night i was watching some YouTube videos. One came on about hunter interactions with game animals. I almost cried when i saw 1 part of the video.
Think of a winter scene on your snomobile on a heavily used trail. Up ahead just bairly in view. a cow moose stands on the trail. You the snomobiler close the distance in half to the moose. The Moose gets nervouse does a falls charge, backs off a few paces, does a full charge and lands on the snomobile. Backs off again but is still doing a stairdown. Cameraman/Snowmobiller shouts and the moose turns and starts walking away. Cameraman advancess closer. Moose turns around again and starts a charge, Cameraman yells to no affect.
The camera shows a semiauto being pulled and having a round chambered. Moose is shot 4 times by this DoDo. The moose falls far enough off of the trail. And you can see the cameraman/shooter/snomobiller driving around the animal and down the trail.

Was out visiting Gbabies yesterday and went to TSC to pick up dog food. Wifey went in,me and shopdog checking out some cool early 20th century farm implements this,Powhatan Va tractor supply joint has "in their yard".

So killing time,we looked at their dog enclosures. Got to thinking we could use one, beats putting her in the laundry room while mowing N such. And other times when I'm wrenching on junk in the race shed?

So,here's the new Coco house. Lots of existing elements that needed to be considered. The wire comes in "panels". It'll end up round 6' high. The house design is "borrowed" from add on,dog house style gas chimneys used on sided houses round here.

The wire tops out at the peak of her roof. Fenced will be 8'X16'.... with the house extended outside that perimeter. Race shed has a 5 member cornice(with 5" crown/ 3 1/2" beaded cove).... Coco gets a pce of beaded frieze and 4" crown, contour blocks to kill it on the ends, and a metal roof. Rock wall is existing so will carry that over to her foundation piers ( rocks are free round here).20190310_112213_resized.jpg

Actually, that explains it pretty well & truthful.

Watched a totally avoidable 4 car accident unfold yesterday. Very greatful to have watched from 100ft away. The sound of crunching plastic between 3 gmc plastic mobiles & a Honda fakeout "truck" is unmistakable. The Honda lost on both ends.

They were out thick yesterday. Very glad my metal bumpers weren't involved.

Just FYI, my oldest sons dog is a "German Shorthaired Pointer" which I'm pretty sure is 1/3 Pitt. The dog has cleared a 6 foot chin link fence. Might be worth keeping in mind. We ended up using a section of cattle panel tilted in , like they do in prison yards with barbwire, as a stopgap. Just something to keep in the back of your head if your dog learns to jump.
