Wish they'd legalize snares up here. There's a local saying that any guy you see trapping a lot of coyotes is using snares. I dunno, but Id sure like to be able to use them.

I agree Bret. Cedar and redwood are just about out of reach for the average income family. We have a 5/4 ornamental rough cedar siding on our house that was made at a local mill, but no longer in business. Bought a similar siding for one side of our attached garage when I turned it into living space. Half as thick and cracks from the sun! Our other three outbuildings are cement siding, and just about bullet proof. My wife likes the cedar on the house or it would be in the wood stove.

I haven't seen redwood for sale at any retail lumber yard up here in at least 40 years. Last time I saw it used was when my dad built a platform/deck for a pool we had when I was about 10, which was in 1970.

Maybe Cable Restraints, but your Director is against them in any form. Lots of politics in getting them legalized. And yes, a lot of snaremen stack up coyotes with snares in snow conditions.

Got the oil changed on my truck today. While I waited I watched the F22 practice for the air show tomorrow. Holy crap is that thing amazing. It does things an aircraft just isn't supposed to do.

we got a whole section of redwood at ours.
it is super nice stuff too all smooth and straight.
it's double the price of pressure treated and three times that of Fir.
I almost went with it for the handrails and posts on the steps for the Porch, then figured I'd just paint it to match everything else and that was somewhat pointless.
well I got the plastic lathe looking trim done around the front and one side, I'm kind of leaving the one end for now since I'm also going to build a little box under the faucet there and fill it with wood chips on top of weed fabric.
there is 30 bags of wood mulch under the deck covered in plastic now, so that should stop any weeds and grass from growing.
the railings are framed in and half of the uprights are done, I should finish them tomorrow, then I will trim the roof back and add the tar paper and drip edge.
the roof metal and trim pieces should be here wed or thur next week so I want everything ready to just put it on and be done with everything [except maybe the big steps out in the front]

I'm putting 4' high railings across the front, they are alternating 2x2's and 1x3's they block the view from the street unless your directly in front of the place so they provide some privacy.

jezuz Christmas what an ordeal getting LED track lighting anymore, I finally got the flood type lights and extra track I wanted,,, after shopping at 3 different places and mix-matching everything.
I got it all wired to the porch switch, but my eye-ball helper has crooked eyes and I have to straighten the thing out.

I'm getting closer and closer every day.

Have been reading on another gun forum lately, dosen't matter which as they all seem to head down the same path, which is.....

Putting all their shooting eggs in one basket.

So,wifeypoo and I are having a discussion on "tool" based curriculum vs "player development " curriculum. She's beating her head against the wall trying to thwart the onslaught of "technology" being forced into classrooms. It IS a losing battle.....

I'm seeing the same thing in "raising the bar" in accuracy world. The thing that gives me an edge to this viewpoint is that we have unlimited resources regarding the "tools".Where as,folks making a case for better ammo/firearms technology struggle in this area. An example from another sport might help..... put a well seasoned pro motorcycle pilot on a 500cc moped and he/she will stomp the bejeebas out of a newb on a 200hp racebike..... why? It's "player development"... NOT.... "tool" development.

We in western culture are programmed to believe technology solves everything. It don't, and it shows up on targets everyday. Work on your blood pressure and lowering your heart rate before worrying about what twist rate you can or can not use.Understand how your core muscles work with recoil.Do a 100 yard sprint before shooting a group. All this stuff is free...... having and maintaining equipment to grind reamers? Well, uhhh, not so.

Left early this morning to beat the heat. It,s 85 here now. At 6 am there was just a haze over everything from the fires in Manitoba. Actually has been for a couple days. Forecast is for southerly winds to clear it up some. Beaver are barely moving in this heat, but I wouldn’t be moving around either if I was wearing a fur coat! Have to work on my riding mower this afternoon. Not a good idea to wrap a 8’ 1/2” rope up in the blades. Think it sheared a key on the flywheel.

More trial and error figuring on how to make 2 pocket doors work in a place pocket doors were never intended to be used...

it's been stupid hot the last couple of days.
95 yesterday and close to that today and for the next few days.
I feel the hot air like its attacking me and even a breeze isn't much help, if I don't have stuff done by 11 am it has to wait until 6-7 at night to get started on again.

Anybody ever see this happen before? Kohler 10 HP OHV from my mower. It backfired when I got the rope caught in the blades. Shut it down right away but to no avail. Blew the seat right out of the exhaust valve, without hitting the piston!

Used to happen to Jags all the time . Hardened exhaust seats do that occasionally with aluminum heads . A machine shop worth their salt should be able to heat the head freeze the seat and slip it back in seat it solid and do a radius peen . I can't remember what the typical offset is but there is reverse taper so the head hole is like 1.5° in taper to the chamber face and the seat is 2° away from the chamber face which represents a difference of .005 maybe that the seat has to be smaller than the head , tight press fit when normalized . Because it fell out the taper is gone from the head so it has to be peened or have an oversized seat installed .

Lots of Jags have peened valve seats , I think it was the early 80s xj12 .

Quick look in the web, 125 bucks gets a new, bare head with seats. Either buy new valves or send me your old ones plus return postage to grind if needed.

Thanks for the offer Ian, but this mower is done. It's 11 years old and a "home owner model". Deck is getting rusty (just welded the pulley guards back on) and replaced one spindle and one shaft. Not much tread left on the tires and the front end is getting loose. Hour meter says 888.9. Think it would be cheaper to buy another than to keep fixing this one.

Went to LAX this afternoon and picked up my older boy (young man). He's been gone the past 2-1/2 months on U.S. tour with an international drum & bugle corps; his second year. He's performed in 30 some-odd states and nearly 40 venues. Did the Alamodome, War Memorial Stadium and quite a few others again this year. Also did, for the first time, the new Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta and Annapolis Naval Academy's stadium. Did their last performance of the season last Friday in Lucas Oil Stadium.

Would say I'd sleep a little more soundly tonight, but the Mrs. and I take turns monitoring Timber and giving him his meds. I have the night shift.

Thank you gentlemen. In spite of being one of the most aggressive forms of cancer, in 3 more days he'll be 2 months beyond the 2 months that the veterinary oncologist gave him.
He still enjoys his food and gets excited and wiggly when we take him out for his "yard patrols".
